TC isn’t a free lunch, it will never truly replace a lens actually covering the same range, it’s really a half baked solution that results in loss of IQ etc.

Sigma 300mm F2.8 APO EX DG HSM User Reviews: Digital

With the full-time manual focus override, I found I was inadvertently shifting focus with my palm and fighting against my attempts to autofocus. This happened mostly when operating the zoom ring, because my hand would rotate in relation to the lens barrel which resulted in rotation of the focus ring. This is a case of the weight of the lens working against you indirectly. Because there is a lot of mass to support (more on this below), it feels like you really need to use your whole hand for support rather than just half your hand or perhaps just your fingers. On a positive note, the focus ring is very smooth to rotate and the zoom ring felt a little stiff at first, but got better overtime. Just like on Nikkor lenses, once you reach close or far limits, the focus ring will continue to rotate. The zoom ring, on the other hand, has a hard stop at both 120mm and 300mm, which is consistent with what you see on the Nikon 200-400mm f/4G VR. I think it’s totally hilarious you posted this in a Nikon article but you keep spewing about Nikon in this Sony article. The lens, built like Megatron’s canon, has a very solid feeling to it. When it is focusing, you can barely feel it. This lens is much bigger than a Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6. It weighs just above 5 lbs and you do feel it in your arms. A monopod or tripod is more than recommended.

Some CA/color fringing at and near wide open but only at very high contrast edges. No focus limiter is trying at times. Sometimes just wouldn't autofocus with the subject right in-front of you ( yes, subject further then minimum focus) The OS is genuinely good, not just a promise as with the Variable Reliability system. Not true that it has no CA - it's there but it's blue-yellow, which is much less noticeable than magenta-green, and is a non-issue in practice, even against the light. Welcome to BirdForum, the internet's largest birding community with thousands of members from all over the world. The forums are dedicated to wild birds, birding, binoculars and equipment and all that goes with it. With 1.4x APO Tele Converter, AF can operate between infnity and 0.52m. If the subject is closer than 0.52m, only MF is available.

Sigma 300mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM APO - Digital Cameras, Digital

Anybody can shoot any 300mm f2.8 handheld for a few mins now and then. Whether it wights 3 or 2 kg makes little difference. See my complete, ongoing review of this lens here: http://sportsphotoguy.com/sigma-120-300mm-f2-8-dg-os-hsm-s/Tamron produces a 300mm ƒ/2.8 for Canon, Nikon and Sony/Minolta mounts, slightly more expensive than the Sigma. We haven't yet tested this lens. The lens uses 46mm drop-in filters, but surprisingly, also has 112mm filter threads on the front for some giant filters.

I was forced to buy a Nikkor 300 2.8 as well for an important assignment, which was an unwelcome added expense. While Sigma has made many improvements here, the lens mount is still a bit of a weak point - there is a fair amount of play when mounted to my Nikons, and I'm concerned that this will become an issue over time (in eight years of use, my original version of this lens required two lens mount replacements).even if I was a bit heavy handed with the sharpening when I first started using Lightroom ... I should re-do this one too!) Again, I think I know how to use Lightroom correctly now to get rid of that ring at the bright edge of the sunlight. I think the Sigma 300mm f2.8 is a fine lens. Not quite as good as the Canon, but pretty decent value.. This thread has some images and comments that might be helpful.. As far as the 4 screws mount of the Z9 goes, as a trained mechanical engineer I know that the number of screws is not a valid indicator to measure ruggedness. It’s much more complex than that.

Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports Review Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports Review

Sports and Wildlife photographers would love this lens. The best thing is, I did not care about the weight after a while. It was fun to shoot with. Please Support The Phoblographer Again, it boils down to knowledge and experience with such lenses. I have spent a lot of time shooting with 200mm f2.0, 300mm f2.8 and 120-300mm f2.8. Those focal lengths are the most important for a major recurrent theme in what I photograph. More so than 400mm f2.8 that I used to own but ended up selling because it was too long 80% of the time. With the use of the optional Sigma APO teleconverters, this lens can be used as a 420mm F4 AF ultra-telephoto lens with a 1.4X EX teleconverter, or a 600mm F5.6 AF ultra-telephoto lens with a 2X teleconverter. I have been doing a little work to keep improving my photography. One of the things I have been doing to get out of my comfort zones is to shoot with telephoto lenses. You see, I usually shoot with small fast prime lenses. When given a chance to work with the Sigma 300mm F2.8 EX APO DG I jumped at it. After a bit of soreness I started having a lot of fun with this lens. This is no ordinary lens. What Sigma has done is basically taken a telephoto lens, given it a big aperture, with internal focusing and made it ridiculously fun. Now your just contradicting yourself, first mirrorless ain’t necessary smaller as it has much to do with generation, then someone show that the 120-400 is latest generation Nikon and suddenly Nikon made an old generation in 2020 and those can make it much smaller. Contrary to any sort of evidence of the matter.

The new 300mm F2.8 G Master OSS lens will take inspiration from the Sony’s other G Master telephotos, such as its 600mm F4 G Master OSS and 400mm F2.8 G Master OSS, both of which we’ve found to be incredibly fast and sharp, as is to be expected from Sony’s high-end G Master lineup. Considering a given generation of build technology and similar image quality the longer the lens the smaller the gap of weight btwn a x-y mm zoom and a y mm prime. Also not all fancy a a lens of the the seize and price of a 400/2.8 and weight of a 600/4 or said in another word a€12.000 and 3kg lens.
