About this deal

No door, wall, fence or basket can contain these cheeky and adventure-seeking youngsters from Parkinson Place. The quartet of escape artists roams the neighbourhood at all hours. Easily keeping up with the most energetic adult cats, they incite each other to greater and greater feats of daring. While each kitten looks very different to his or her siblings, the four are always together in a set, playing and tumbling and scuffling in a blur After the 2000 US presidential election had been described as a 'schmozzle', Dodd's use of the word 'shemozzle' in this book was discussed in US media, [16] with the following verse quoted: a b c L.R. (29 January 2014). "Slinky Malinki, Early Bird". New Zealand Doctor: 27. ISSN 1176-5631.

This thieving is a habitual thing rather than a once-off, so I’d say his ‘habit’ is to wait until nightfall when all the humans are asleep, then break into people’s homes and drag stolen items to a hidden place at his owners’. Big Struggle Lynley Dodd: A Retrospective 26 January - 24 March 2013". waikatomuseum.co.nz. Waikato Museum . Retrieved 12 September 2019.Forgotten the title or the author of a book? The flow of this story is consistent and keeps rolling along in an interesting way for the child/children listening, and an entertaining way for the adult reading.

It's Christmas in Slinky Malinki's house and the rapscallion, mischievous cat is most curious about the Christmas tree. With its reindeer, ribbons, baubles and bells, it's too tempting a treat for Slinky not to investigate. So Slinky Malinki, with mischievous glee, creeps out from the shadows to climb up the tree . . . This book is hilarious and the illustrations are perfect. What I love most about it though, is that it's great for young readers with the way the story rhymes and repeats, yet it's interesting and keeps your attention as well. Kids can't wait to find out how the story will end. This is one to keep. Lynley Dodd, too, has created a cast of cat characters which closely align to the cat characters typecast by T.S. Eliot. You’ve got Growltiger with Scarface Claw — the other main cat, and a wonderful nemesis for Hairy. Slinky Malinki is, of course, a modern Criminal, related to the Macavity (who sneaks about) and Mungojerry (who plans naughty things) from T.S. Eliot. Sometimes a story is not actually magical, but something is infused with a supposed supernatural set of forces.Told in wonderful rhyme and through pictures full of life and movement, Slinky Malinki is the very first adventure of the rapscallion cat in Lynley Dodd's famous Hairy Maclary and Friends series. What I particularly like about this story is the use of language where everyday items like glue, pens and teddy bears are rhymed into a story and wrapped up with words that are unfamiliar or unusual but their meanings can be extracted, as quite often several words are used to describe an action. The illustrations are detailed and give the reader visual clues to the text and also display emotions and feelings particularly at the end of the story when you can’t help but feel a bit sorry for Slinky. Slinky Malinki, first published in 1990, [1] [2] is one of a well-known series of books by New Zealand author Lynley Dodd. [3]
