World - Soul Eater is an older manga & anime that recently got a reboot through the Perfect Edition reprint. Ohkubo creates a gothic wonderland, a world that screams "What if Tim Burton made a manga/anime?" At the Death Weapon Meister Academy, selected students train under Death himself to become Reapers and harvest souls with their living weapons. The manga was preceded by three separate one-shots published by Square Enix in 2003; the first two published in two Gangan Powered special editions and the last one in Gangan Wing. I’ve been doing yearly rewatches of the Soul Eater anime for a little over a decade at this point, so I can’t believe it took me this long to read the manga! Even though this first volume definitely has more fan service than the anime episodes that adapt it (I’m really not a fan of the overly gratuitous panty, half naked, and in one case fully naked shots of underage girls), I still really enjoyed reading the manga. Another manga series I started after watching the anime. Really enjoyed this volume and looking forward to reading the other ones.
