About this deal

Psychic Utility. Four guys with chainswords or bolters (it doesn’t really matter), and one with a balefire tome and Prescience. This unit is out there to provide some extra value where needed while Advancing to hold objectives and support other units. You will typically also give this unit the Mark of Slaanesh so it has access to Delightful Agonies.

As the title suggests - the box set has been silently discontinued on the webstore because it's going to be replaced by a new box with 1 unit of Marines, 1 unit of Havocs, a Dark Apostle, and a Hellbrute. For your second and third Troops choices, grab a set of Incursors and field them as two five-man squads, offering you another pair of infiltrating units, each equipped with a haywire mine for awesome area denial . Like the Possessed, Obliterators are grotesque fusions of Chaos Space Marine, daemon, and weapon. These are now available in Warpforged: Venomcrawler and Obliterators. Excluding the Venomcrawler, the Obliterators are the most complicated models in the box to build, each made of thirteen parts. This said, they are still straightforward to build, and a good stepping-stone for beginners to learn how to assemble bigger models, with more pieces. It also offers a chance to learn new painting techniques, as, like the Possessed, they have a mix of flesh, armour, and weapons. If you like what we’re doing here you could really help encourage more content with a share on any social media platform. At the end of the fight phase, roll 1D6 for each enemy unit within 6″ of the bearer, or D6+1 if the bearer made a Dark Pact. On a 4+, that enemy unit suffers D3 mortal wounds Psychic Powers. Chaos Space Marines have a solid psychic game, even if it’s not on the level of Thousand Sons. The Master of Possession is one of the game’s best psyker units, and Chaos Legionnaire units can take a psyker as well for additional versatility and the ability to toss out mortal wounds.

We’ll talk more about these units in their respective sections. Suffice to say, there are reasons to include these units in your armies, and each of them plays differently outside of their parent legions in ways that affect how they play. Daemon Engine He travels throughout the known galaxy, always seeking to create a new version of the Space Marine – one better, faster, stronger, more adaptable. With the rise of Primaris Space Marines, he may now have all the new material he’ll ever need to twist Chaos Space Marines into new forms, finally perfecting his life’s work. And so, dear reader, we come to the crux of Chaos’ mission; you see, the beings of the Warp don’t just wait around for such atrocities to happen on their own, oh no. Since time immemorial, the Ruinous Powers have used their godlikeabilities to seep their influence across the veil, into the minds and souls of unwitting mortals, corrupting them into willing, zealous servants whose purpose in life is to serve their dark gods, working to create those psychic fault lines through which daemons can come out to play. The brightly-coloured, mostly bird-like ones. Daemons bound to the Changer of Ways come in two broad flavours. Firstly, there’re feathery birdlike humanoids in the vein ofTzeentch’s Greater Daemons, the twin-headed bird-dragon Lords of Change. Beyond even the hardened physiology of most Astartes, the Death Guard were famously resistant to poisons and chemical weapons; Mortarion was even known for ritually drinking goblets of concentrated weaponised agents with his favoured warriors, to prove their immunity to all corruption.

On the battlefield, Nurgle Daemons pair perfectly with their Astartes allies in the Death Guard, but are equally viable as a standalone force – perhaps even more than the other Daemon armies, due to the uncommon survivability gifted them by their Disgustingly Resilient rule. So how do you want to load these guys out? Well you’ve got a few options, though you’re still probably only taking a single big unit:

Warp travel plays a vital part in the 40k universe, allowing goodies and baddies (just kidding, there are no goodies) to travel from fight to fight without all their soldiers dying of old age on the way.Orb of Unlife – NURGLE model only. This relic is a 9” range Grenade 1 weapon that can be thrown once per battle and can’t generate extra hits when thrown. When you hit with this weapon, the target takes D3 mortal wounds. If the target has 11+ models or you’re in Wanton Destruction, they take D3+3 mortal wounds instead. Either way, after getting hit the unit gets -1 Toughness for the rest of the battle. This is pretty nasty, and can make a huge difference softening up a key enemy unit with a high toughness. The issue here is that if you’re taking a Nurgle character that wants to get close to the enemy, there are better options. C+ Note that there are two Chaos Legions that have their own Codexes and aren’t subfactions of the Chaos Space Marines. You can find information on how to play them in their own Start Competing articles: Gorget of Eternal Hate – The bearer gets +1 to their armour saving throws, has a 4+ invulnerable save, and the first time they’re destroyed, before you remove them from play, roll a D6 for each enemy unit within 3”; on a 2-5 they take D3 mortal wounds, on a 6 they take 3 mortal wounds. This is most powerful on a Lord Discordant, where your native 2+ Save becomes extra valuable and your large base makes the explosion harder to avoid. B+ A hasty bit of rethinking and retooling, along with some new lore, saw the idea of a schism in the Imperium being born. This allowed the box to contain two sets of human-style titans, with one set belonging to the traitorous forces of Horus and his heresy.

For your additional Troops units, either add in a second unit or two of Chaos Space Marines for some heavier firepower or even some Chaos Cultists to hold objectives and protect your deployment zone.*** When approaching a brand new Chaos Space Marine army, there’ll be a variety of ways to build out a competitive, complete force, which will depend on the way you want to go and what you want to focus on. But the Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrolis a sturdy foundation. With this Start Collecting! set, you’ve got yourself a delightfully evil bunch of Heretic Astartes – some of which are daemonically enhanced. The fell grimoire that mortals call Codex: Chaos Space Marines contains all of the rules needed to unleash their wrath in battle, but if you really want to play up their warp-tainted nature, Psychic Awakening: Faith & Fury will give them a new lease of (eternal) life. There are also three additional powers you can access if your Psyker has the Mark of Tzeentch, Nurgle, or Slaanesh. All three of these are good and they’re free, so you aren’t really forced to choose between them and anything else. All of them increase your durability in different ways, but Delightful Agonies is the best of the bunch. Abaddon’s got the benefit of all four marks of Chaos, plus a 4+ invulnerable save and he can’t take more than 3 wounds per phase. Add this to a 2+ save and Armour of Contempt and you’ve got a model that is stupid hard to kill. And that’s good because he’s perfectly capable of acting alone, walking across the table and murdering things with Drach’nyen, a S9, AP-4, 3-damage blade that does an extra D3 mortals every time it rolls a 6 to wound. He can kill pretty much anything in the game in melee, and if you can avoid getting shot he can be near-impossible to remove once he’s dug in, especially if you can heal him with something like Pact of Flesh.Self-appointed Editor in chief of FauxHammer.com - But I need to thank the team for existing and therefore enabling me to give myself role - without them, I'm just a nerd with a computer and a plastic addiction.
