About this deal

Then I use a cotton wool swab soaked with Vallejo Airbrush cleaner to remove congealed paint in the cup before it gets down into the nozzle. The one area where I do go bulk is using car screenwash to clean acrylics out of my airbrush. Saves a lot compared to Tamiya X-20A, which I limit to its primary use to thin their paints… Remove the needle to clean. Use the other end of cotton swab to clean out the airbrush cap on the front end. For cleaning out the brush, after every session, I use Spraycraft or Liquid Reamer cleaner from an aerosol can. I think they are essentially the same product and are quite strong. As a final part of the process, I then spray some tap water through the brush to clear out any remaining cleaner. Paint building up is common with acrylics. Again a brush and some Alcohol or Vallejo Airbrush Cleaner work very well.

When doing clean outs and color changes I spray leftover paint, cleaner and water into one of these Iwata Medea airbrush cleaning stations. I find that the jar is large enough to hold all of my waste from a typical painting session so I just empty and rinse it in the sink afterwards. I also like that the jar has a built in airbrush holder on the handle. Using the jar keeps the vapor and odor in my work area to a minimum and completely prevents any spills. An Important Distinction About Generic Airbrush Cleaner I don't recommend flushing Tamiyas through with water.....I use Revell Aqua Cleaner or IPA to flush through until all paint is removed. I then flush through with water to finish off. Put some in a container (old margarine tub / yoghurt tub etc). Dump the business end of the airbrush in the cleaner and leave it for about 30 minutes. Scrub the bits with a stiff paint brush. Strip the working parts and leave them in some fresh cleaner for a while longer if needs be... Or just to be sure. That will sort it. Found there was a blob of paint very visible on the needle part way through spraying, 2 parts paint 1 part X20 thinners 20 psi. disassemble cap etc, place into jar of x20, remove and still paint all over it, now I hate to think whats inside the inner nozzle, scrubbing away with cotton bud to try and remove paint, trying to get into corners of front of cap,I have always used the Tamiya Airbrush cleaner from basically when I started using my paint thrower, and also had the issues mentioned above. and whats the cause of that paint blob on the needle, this was simple medium size spray pattern, just laying colour down. With all this talk of cheaper glue, I gotta wonder - just how much building does everyone do? I get through maybe a bottle a year, and it’s just not worth the savings to go for cheaper bulk options for me! But maybe there are folks churning through it faster than me?

First I flush out with two or three cups of water with compressor as high as possible. Preserves airbrush cleaner. Best reason to buy Tamiya Extra Cement in the small bottle is for the small bottle & excellent pointed cap brush. Give it a soak in IPA or metho, or Windex (the clear blue liquid with ammonia in it). If you use Windex, make sure that you wash it out thoroughly, as the ammonia can damage the chrome in the a/b. I always keep a cotton bud dipped in X-20a handy when spraying Tamiyas and use it to remove the paint build up at the nozzle. I have been gluing all my models the last two years with the airbrush cleaner. So much so I recently refilled my old Tamiya green bottle with cleaner.

Always good to see this posted again. I have been using the airbrush cleaner as liquid cement for several years now and actually just refill the same old green top bottle with an eyedropper every so often from the airbrush cleaner bottle.

One problem I had was the garage door which fitted in only various places allowing wind thro agitating dust. I’ve seen people use lots of different stuff including Windex and Simple Green, for cleaning airbrushes.. My one caution is that if you use a generic or household cleaning product, make sure you’re using one that does not have ammonia as a component. Ammonia is a little bit reactive with some metals and alloys and can cause corrosion or tarnishing. Know the problem. Dart Herald with wings on 18" (450mm) width of booth 18".. Leaving wings off as long as possible.Just add i am using Vallejo Cleaner. However the best I have found as paint just disappears as you spray it on. Only one very big problem, the booth although its big it only just takes Darings hull, so KGV etc will not fit, aaarrrgghh Acetone for both Acrylics and Enamels and it works hundreds... the Acetone cleans it up shiny shiny. So bedroom 2, 9*11ft. Model room with secondary use during night pull out bed. I can dream (Dart Herald nightmare) among my models.
