About this deal

With nods to that classic Hollywood movie It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), where the central character is given a chance to see what the world would be like if he had never been born, The Day I was Erased is a story of family, the nature of friendships, and finding your place in the world. But then, he regret his decision. The world is not really better without him. He was important, even if it is very localized and in a small way. He is still important. And he missed his dog. But I really enjoyed the ending most. We all found it was a much better ending than any other ending in Lisa Thompson's books. I was thrilled with it. It wasn't the happiest ending, but it was satisfying.😢 The book references lots of famous disappearances and mysteries throughout history. Is this something that has always interested you? Do you have a favourite famous mystery?

In some ways, I think it’s the dog’s disappearance affects Maxwell the most. He has such a good relationship with Monster (the dog).I like this book because it is very interesting and I have never heard of someone being erased my favourite person would be the little boy who was erased it interested me because I find this book intersecting and gets me thinking what if I was erased? I would recommend it to kids my age because I personally think they will like it coming from my experience I'm sorry Lisa Thompson but what kind of a kid would say that? How sad do they have to be to say something like that? This book is excellent reading for anyone but I can really imagine it helping any child who might have chosen the wrong path and desperately wants to make amends but doesn’t know how. It shows that we ALL have good and bad points and that we can make amends when we mess up. Maxwell’s future at the end of the book isn’t a complete happy ending but it’s happy enough to reassure any reader that life carries on and that everyone can make a difference. This simple concept introduces children to the concept of the butterfly effect and is a perfect vehicle for exploring the positive impact that even the naughtiest of boys has had on the people in his life. Maxwell discovers that he has worth, he has value and that the people in his life really do need him - a fantastic thing for readers to realise about themselves, especially at moments when they are feeling underappreciated.

One day, while looking through a mysterious cabinet of curiosities, Maxwell finds himself erased from his life: it’s as if he’s never been born. At first, being able to walk around without being yelled at is great, but Maxwell starts to miss his old life. And, if he’d never existed, then he wouldn’t have swooped Monsterout of the path of that car… I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Maxwell, a boy who is a consistent troublemaker and seeks to make others miserable. His only real friends are Charlie, the geeky boy who is too afraid of Max to stay away, and an elderly man named Reg who Maxwell confides in as a third paternal figure. With family troubles at home, a looming divorce and friendship issues, Maxwell feels misunderstood and starts to wish that he was never born. But Thompson cleverly shifts our attitude as we realise his behaviour is a result of his parents’ constant arguments. How is an 11-year-old supposed to cope with a home life as messy as this? As he walks out of Reg’s house, Maxwell discovers that he has been deleted from his own life. Nobody recognises him. Everyone he passes – even his parents, neighbours and classmates – treat him as if he were a stranger.

So he was transport to the world when he was not even born. No one knows him. He got a hard re-set to the world. As a teacher, I’m always interested in an author’s point of view about inspiring a love of reading and writing in our children… But even though I'm an adult i still loved every second of it! The characters, the plot and the messages interwinded throughout. A few of Maxwell’s antics at the beginning initially made me not like him very much. I usually don’t mind antics, but especially the one with lights just seemed a little too premeditated to me. A coming-of-age story about learning to celebrate yourself -- and teaching the world to recognize you, too -- perfect for fans of R. J. Palacio's Wonder! is really naughty at school and he gets told off loads of times he sneaks into a concert and turns off the electricity so the concert can’t go on. He gets erased and he loses his mum and dad and his sister Bex I loved this book!

‘The Day I Was Erased’ review: Author Lisa Thompson reminds

Twelve-year-old Maxwell is always in trouble. He’s a menace to his sister, teachers and parents, but he also has a softer side. He likes to visit his elderly neighbour, Reg, and he saved his dog Monster from being run over. One day, after he’s ruined an important school event, Maxwell wishes he’d never been born, and he gets to see the world as if he never existed. What’s more, every impact he has had on where he lives and the people he knows – good or mostly bad – is as if it never happened. I don’t think I could! I definitely felt that that was the end when I finished the book, but never say never! Un romanzo decisamente divertente ed emozionante che insegna a non arrendersi mai e ad imparare dai propri errori.
