About this deal

I liked that the book is very well documented. Nothing is written without quoting the source or study that proves it. Tipical to Hazel Wallace, she takes a "no bullshit" approach in this regard.

The Products — The Food Medic

Goods that by reason of their nature, cannot be returned - (Items such as underwear, where the 'hygiene patch' has been removed, or cosmetics where the seal has been broken). I had to take on a couple of nursing shifts in intensive care – I’m not a trained nurse but you just had to do what was asked of you because there weren’t enough nurses.”There’s lots of sound practical advice about nutrition and healthy eating for different life stages as well, of course, as her popular recipes.

The Female Factor: Making women’s health count – and what it The Female Factor: Making women’s health count – and what it

While her first two books focused on healthy eating, exercise and recipes, The Female Factor sees her delving deeper into women’s health. This bold, comprehensive guide to understanding women's health shakes up the narrative for women of all ages. The Female Factor provides methods to protect and maximise your health in positive, affirming steps. While nutrition remains her biggest passion, she realised that there was an unmet need for how women are treated in within medicine and healthcare. In the introduction to the books, she writes “I realised that our current model of male-centric medicine meant that women were understudied, underdiagnosed and undertreated. In The Female Factor, she looks at all aspects of women’s health, saying that she wants to expand the definition of ‘female health’ from conditions that affect only our reproductive organs to the study of all aspects of health and disease, with the recognition that presentation, diagnosis, treatment and prevention may be different between the sexes.

She says that the information around this is only beginning to emerge but is very important for women’s healthcare. Are certain vitamin and mineral requirements particularly important at certain points of women's lives? She points out that most research has been done on male bodies, with the presumption that women were just small men. A bit disappointed. I wanted an in-depth insight into female health. What I got was a glazed over version, and although I agree she cannot give medical advice, to end every paragraph with ‘this may not apply to all women, or seek medical intervention before trying’ isn’t helpful. This reads like a collection of small posts. Only ~46% of the book is actual content on health, the rest is recipes, references, etc. Whilst the parts of the book that were educational were very well written, easy to understand and I definitely took information on board, I was hoping for deeper knowledge and understand and it seemed a little surface level.
