Avery Chambers is a therapist with a unique strategy for "fixing" her patients problems. Despite losing her license, due to her controversial methods, her success rate is phenomenal but she won't take you on if she isn't certain she can fix you with her ten-step program. Marissa and Mathew Bishop, on the surface, appear to be the "Golden Couple" but Marissa confesses her infidelity in hopes that Avery can save her marriage but the biggest secrets are yet to be revealed...a dangerous web of deceits. When the Bishops glide through Avery’s door, all three are immediately set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger. There was also a perfect balance between the past and present, as well as between both story lines and how well they intertwined...not sure if this was due to the joint writing effort from two authors, but it just worked. I also loved that even though Marissa and Matthew were supposed to be sort of a 'posh' couple, in many ways they felt down to earth and accessible and there was GENUINE emotion tied in when the authors detailed their marital strife. I love when a thriller can also tug at my heart strings a bit, and this one certainly did! SARAH PEKKANEN is the internationally and USA Today bestselling author of over half a dozen solo novels. A former investigative journalist and award-winning feature writer, her work has appeared in The Washington Post, USA Today, and many other publications. His grasp is strong and dry. “Matthew Bishop,” he replies. I take in his square chin, light blue eyes, and broad shoulders.

But Abbie was too troubled to see clearly. Too damaged to see the dangers Tony Sharpe brought into her life. Polly - Marissa's assistant at her high end boutique - was so annoying, and Natalie - Mat's ex-college girlfriend - was still in the picture, as was Marissa's "first kiss" childhood sweetheart, Skip. I was so bored while reading this. I was just waiting and waiting and waiting for something to happen. When something finally happened, I was let down. It was what I guessed early on, and the way it played out was anticlimactic. I wish this had been more nuanced and the side plots simplified. The Golden Couple is a riveting cat-and-mouse game of a novel that explores the intricacies of marriage, and the many ways in which people lie to themselves...and others. This is a psychological thriller in every sense of the word." –– Lori Gottlieb, author of Maybe You Should Talk to SomeoneAvery and Marissa both experience the loss of a spouse in very different ways. Explain how death and grief shape their characters and play into the overall plot? This story is not your typical mystery. There’s no dead body or traditional crime to solve. But that doesn’t make it any less suspenseful.

Alex had become one of the most feared men in the country, but how did a normal kid wind up being the right hand man to the most dangerous mafia boss?. Grief isn’t linear. It isn’t logical. There’s no structure or civility to it; it grabs you when you least expect it and digs in its nails until you succumb. I'm actually so overwhelmed by the sheer amount of audacity and dumbassery these characters displayed, I don't know where to start. The difference is in the details. Conversations are realistic, and scenes of daily life are vividly portrayed-so even though some creative license may be used, especially for Avery and her methods, I was able to just go with it, and enjoy!Marissa recalls how she knew Skip and Tina growing up. Skip is d) connected to Tina! After a night of drinking games, Tina was dead. The Connecting Factor Between Everything is… Skip! If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in ten sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. She helps people overcome everything, from anxiety to domineering parents. Her successes almost help her absorb the emptiness she feels since her husband’s death. When they glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.

oddly enough, the last dbr i wrote was for An Anonymous Girlso i guess these authors make me want to drink? While Avery attempts to find out who is causing her personal pain, the Chamber’s marriage seems more fraught with other issues than infidelity. Avery investigates Matt’s father Chris and finds out he’s been hanging around with Skip, and that Chris asked Skip to spy on her.

I predicted the twist...although I second-guessed myself a few times. A few aspects near the end were a bit questionable as different plot points tied together. There are some things that I liked about The Golden Couple: I liked the premise of the therapist gone rogue. I liked little Bennett, and I loved Romeo. He was the best, and I wish the book ended with him hugging his little bunny. Unfortunately, the final scene felt contrived. The doorbell chimes, indicating the Bishops’ arrival, a few minutes late for our 7:00 P.M. appointment at my home office. This story was so much fun. Lots of twists, turns, and red herrings. Just when you think someone is a good person, something happens to make you question that opinion. At the very beginning of the story, I didn't think I was going to like Avery but it didn't take me long to see that I liked her a lot, unethical behavior or not. Actually, I ended up liking a lot of the characters despite their imperfections. This was a very satisfying story and I enjoyed the way it was laid out for us. I told you that I would fight as long as I could, and that offer still stands. But I need you to know that I am running out of fight. Bryce said” during this report you will find out that Bryce is insanely sweet and he has a really big struggle. Cancer. Bryce Harrison and Sophie Allen are the golden couple at their school. During the time Bryce starts getting headaches and finds out that he has brain cancer. Overall, This book is really good. When Bryce is sweet the reader has an awww moment and when reading about his struggle with cancer the reader begins to feel for him. Whether he got good news from the doctor and the reader was happy, or he got bad news from the doctor and the reader was sad. If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her successes are phenomenal—she helps people overcome everything from domineering parents to assault—and almost absorb the emptiness she sometimes feels since her husband’s death. As a reader, I found myself trying to connect all the characters and decipher who is truthful and who is less than forthcoming. I love books that challenge me to uncover the threads that weave characters together as I try to spot the red herrings. This is that kind of book. And as with their prior books, I was surprised by the ending. Avery meets Lana, the daughter of Avery’s late husband Paul. Then she heads to Matthew and Marissa’s next session. They talk about their families (their son Bennett and Matt’s sister Kiki) and Marissa’s parents. Marissa receives an anonymous flower delivery at work. The Big Pharma Subplot
