About this deal

I've never read any of Way's books before, but she definitely knows how to ration out the suspense to keep you hooked and debating whether to devour the entire book at once or savor it slowly. (I went with the former approach—nearly finished the whole thing in a day!) She's a great writer, although I felt like the book took a little longer to wrap up than I wanted. But The Lies We Told is definitely going to be one of those thrillers you see everywhere as soon as it's published October 9! Every family has a story, told and retold so many times it seems firm and irrefutable. Etched in granite. Here are the bare bones of my family's story: Clara is dating Luke, and he vanishes. Most everyone believes he has just walked out on her, but Clara thinks otherwise. The small clues he left behind point to a possible stalker. When Clara's boyfriend, Luke, disappears, everyone believes that he's left her, but Clara thinks she knows the truth. Recent evidence suggests that Luke had a stalker, and Clara worries that he's been kidnapped. Then Luke's older sister, Emma, who vanished twenty years ago, suddenly reappears. a detailed but highly readable and valuable resource to help us engage with the people around us and contextualise the timeless truth of Jesus. The book moves at a brisk pace and there’re not any lulls in the suspense. I knew the two stories would intertwine at some point but didn’t see how it would all come together. There are several points in the plot that require you to suspend belief, but they’re not overwhelming. It’s got a very satisfying ending. I sat up, wincing from a sudden bolt of pain in my gut. In the glow of the headlights, I saw my mother running toward the car, her arms flailing in the air. I couldn't remember ever seeing my mother run before. I'd never seen her look wild like this, her wet, dark hair flattened to her head, her dress clinging to her thighs.Filled with twists and dark secrets this one had me searching for answers. A solid read with a surprising end! This book aims to equip Christians to navigate the minefield of current claims. To understand our inherent human significance, to know genuine freedom, and to work for real justice, we need to know the truth. I have been a huge fan of Diane Chamberlain's for quite a while now. Her writing has been compared to Jodi Picoult, but I will go a step further and say that her writing, while similar in genre, is better than Picoult's. Why, you ask? Well because I don't have the violent urge to throw the book at the wall when I come to the end. Once again, Ms. Chamberlain has written a touching story with characters that find their way into your heart.

The Lies We Told is a novel that contains so much, giving only one of its secrets away would spoil much of it—which makes discussion difficult. That being said, there are some elements that work very well and make this a recommended read. I've awarded it three stars because, whilst I did enjoy the story and was compelled to read on for most of it, the ending was a bit of a let down, and given all that had occurred in the story up until the end, there was an opportunity for the ending to be powerful and memorable, but unfortunately I do not feel it was. We are first introduced to Beth and Doug who have finally gotten their wish of a child after many, many years of waiting and trying. But within a few years Beth is aware that something is not right with their beautiful, charming Hannah. I felt genuine unrest and worry for the young family of Beth and Doug. Hannah starts exhibiting strange, dangerous, cruel and worrisome behavior since the age of 3 when she intentionally seriously injures her mother. They do take her to a psychiatrist but Hannah is able to even manipulate the doctor into believing that she is alright. The parents are assured that this is just a “phase”. She is mean to other children as she is growing up and the school has had to talk to the parents multiple times about her behavior. In the past timeline Beth is a young mother that is at her wit’s end when it comes to dealing with her young daughter Hannah. Hannah is definitely nothing like other children and Beth lives in fear of just what her daughter will do next.

Who's that?" Daddy leaned forward to peer into the half light. "Does he have on a. . .is that a ski mask?" The present story line has Clara on the search for her boyfriend Luke, when he suddenly disappears. I loved all the clues the author threw in. I was right there with Clara piecing everything together (or not). She becomes a bit of a detective and soon starts wondering if she really knew Luke as well as she thought. The stories she is hearing about Luke just don't ring true.

This book was a very fast paced and easy read that I gobbled up in 2 days. There were some parts I was rolling my eyes with but overall I really enjoyed this one. All Beth wanted was to be a mother. When she finally got her miracle baby, she couldn’t have been happier. Beth and her husband, Doug doted on Hannah. They finally had their family. But as time when on, Beth began to notice that Hannah didn’t act or react like other children did. After awhile Beth couldn’t deny it…something was wrong with Hannah. It wasn’t that she wasn’t intelligent, Hannah was extremely smart. But she se Today marked sixteen weeks. I rested my hand on the slope of my belly as I walked down the aisle on the far left of the building, past cubicles filled with beautiful old furniture or handcrafted items. I was safe. We were safe. Most people waited until the first trimester had passed to tell people the news, but Adam and I had learned that even reaching that twelve-week mark wasn't enough. I'd made it to twelve weeks and two days the last time. We'd wait four months this time, we'd decided. Sixteen weeks. We wouldn't tell anyone before then-except Rebecca, of course-and we wouldn't start fixing up the nursery until we'd passed that sixteen week milestone. Luke comes from the perfect family, with the perfect parents. But one day, he disappears without a trace, and his girlfriend, Clara, is desperate to discover what has happened tohim. And then we have Clara. Poor, Clara! I loved her character so much. She is the perfect mix of suspicious and trusting, hopeful and discouraged, confused and intelligent. Everyone should want a significant other like Clara. She questions the things we all would, but defaults to being trusting. She can’t turn her feelings off and on just because she has learned something new about Luke. And she is dogged in her pursuit of the truth. I was team Clara, cheering her on when she discovered new clues, and pulling the covers under my chin when she was in danger. The two storylines also have difference POVs. Beth’s story is told in first person, while Clara’s is third person.
