About this deal

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world. Another great aspect Perry uses is that he constantly endears and re-endears the reader to the protagonist. This continually breathes life into the story. In many books the author “Pats the head of the dog,” once and moves on hoping the story does all the work maintaining the fictive dream. Peter James If you want to be a crime writer it is one of the books that you absolutely have to read. It has been one of the most successful, if not the most successful, crime novel of the 20th century. (Source)

When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway’s latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the bestselling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan’s traditional formula has proved hugely successful. So successful that Susan must continue to put up with his troubling behavior if she wants to keep her job. Then an anniversary appeal reveals that Anna’s friends and family might have something to hide. Anna’s best friend, Sarah, hasn’t been telling the whole truth about what really happened that night—and her parents have been keeping secrets of their own. Again, Patterson's skill for producing furiously paced fiction are evident as the novel breezes by rapidly. The short chapters keep the narrative leaping with increasingly taut plot elements, but there's an emotional commitment that makes our protagonist even more amiable and involving. 1st to Die is a novel that works as an intense series of character portraits that will leave the reader touched and delighted.

The Ellen Leicester, the wife who left Harry fifteen years ago calls and askes him to investigate a sudden crime wave, including possible extortion that has hit several small midwestern towns, one of them Parkmans Elbow. Travis Mcelroy The Internet's Best Friend @maureenjohnson @babyskypewindow AND I LOVE YOU AND TULY DEVIOUS! Devoured books one and two in a week. Just started book 3! (Source) James Patterson, bestselling author of the Alex Cross novels Along Came a Spider, Kiss the Girls, and Pop Goes the Weasel, offers the first of a new series dubbed The Women's Murder Club, featuring a four-woman team that occasionally works outside the system. None of the gritty darkness or frenzied action is lost in 1st to Die, although the female protagonists offer an even deeper emotional context to this suspense thriller. Hercule Poirot is called on to investigate the murder of a brother and sister in this classic from the Queen of Mystery.

Anna Fox lives alone--a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors. Help us spread the word! At the meeting, Ellen explained that as part of her job as US Attorney she was seeing some disturbing trends in recent crime reports coming out of rural areas across her jurisdictional area. Reports of assaults, robberies and even murder. What was disturbing was that it appeared that all these incidents were made by 'teams' not 'individuals'. It appeared someone (or a team of someones) was trying to start an organised crime syndicate in her jurisdiction. Masterly… the intricate plot matches superior characterizations. Thorne fans will eagerly await his next outing.”— Publishers Weekly, starred reviewWiretaps, witness interviews, court recordings and detective recollections piece together thistrue crime podcast hosted by Michael Connelly that explores real homicidecases not covered by mainstream media. Terrific book and I'll be investigating what is already available from Thomas Perry since this is the first book of his I've read. I totally enjoyed the adventures of Harry Duncan, the hero in this book. Join the Women's Murder Club on an exhilarating thrill ride as love and murder test their friendships like never before. Harry Duncan comes across as fairly bland though. He is certainly fearless and persistent and you cheer him along in his quest. But that spark which ignites a character into life was missing for me. A 3 rating is really only a measure against Thomas Perry's other writing. He is a consistently excellent thriller and suspense writer and I think most fans of the genre will give this a 4 or 5 rating.

It is meant to be a celebration but it ends in tragedy. As fireworks explode overhead, Evelyn Hardcastle, the young and beautiful daughter of the house, is killed. It is the year 2058, and technology now completely rules the world. But New York City Detective Eve Dallas knows that the irresistible impulses of the human heart are still ruled by just one thing: passion. When Ella Longfield overhears two attractive young men flirting with teenage girls on a train, she thinks nothing of it—until she realises they are fresh out of prison and her maternal instinct is put on high alert. But just as she’s decided to call for help, something stops her. The next day, she wakes up to the news that one of the girls—beautiful, green-eyed Anna Ballard—has disappeared. From 30-47%: MC is in deep contemplation of his objectives. I preferred his life-threatening struggles. What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one--and nothing--is what it seems.

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life. Morse, Rebus, and now Thorne. The next superstar detective is already with us—don’t miss him.”— Lee Child I do. When my husband and I bought the Bellechasse we made a pact....Everything that stepped foot on this land would be safe."

Review of the Highbridge Audio edition (January 17, 2023) narrated by Peter Berkrot and released simultaneously with the Mysterious Press hardcover. Mark Billingham was born and brought up in Birmingham, England. Having worked for some years as an actor and more recently as a TV writer and stand-up comedian his first crime novel was published in 2001. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible – and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were to be published, it would ruin lives—meaning that there are a lot of people who might want him silenced. Miss Marple’s last case, Sleeping Murder, was written over 30 years before it was published and sees Miss Marple solve her final mystery.
