The menu is navigated with a simple set of up down left right buttons (sat around the GPS unit). On the watch you can set some options, via goal progress, view previous activities and start new ones. It’s easy to navigate, but needs a fair bit of exploring to see all the options and realise which screens have up and down options (as well as the normal left right navigation). The Bluetooth receiver on the headphones is on the same side of your head as the watch is on that same side of the body.

There are no links to subscription services that stream music…think about it! You bought the TomTom to ditch that smartphone right!! 🙂 Special Features – Voice Coach For a more detailed picture of your fitness, it syncs with the Garmin Connect app to show you your progress and help you set attainable goals. adventurer is pretty much the same hardware. I was going to write something else but this should suffice https://the5krunner.com/2016/09/01/tomtom-new-adventurer-model/ it’s just got a barometric altimeter, some other outdoor sports profiles and a special intermittent GPS hiking mode. the sports are a little more than just data screen eg skiing can auto-detect and action certain things such as showing your last runs summary data when you go up the next cable car.I tested the Runner 2 with a Polar chest strap and was glad to see parity for every type of workout, even the most frantic interval training. My only complaint is that the Runner 2 always takes a good 30 seconds or so to begin recording properly, but that time is generally spent warming up, so it’s no big deal. It’s another reason that you can leave your phone at home, with the added bonus of allowing you to keep an eye on your heart rate for each interval. You can store approximately 500 songs or 3Gb. There are some quite specific file types that are supported. Generally it is MP3, MPEG and AAC up to 320kbps @48KHz. TomTom Runner 2 Spark Cardio Music – Pairing Headphones If you like exercising with music and would prefer to lug around only one device on your arms then the Runner 3/ Spark 3 stands out as a fairly obvious choice against a smartphone. Lightweight and smooth, with no buttons to snag on anything and no annoying beeps or buzzes, the Misfit Shine is a simple looking yet deceptively intricate device.

Running cadence is unlikely to be included as a ‘live’ metric in the near future. (Source: TomTom). Cycling cadence is shown real time. Special Features – Other bits For more information on how to set up a repair for your device, see: About device repairs and cost . The Race option pits your current run against previous outings so you can see if you're ahead or behind a previous time. The Runner has a sleeker feel to a lot of rivals on the market, and feels mostly unobtrusive on the wrist. However, while you'll likely keep your Fitbit Flex or Nike Fuelband on through the day, the TomTom Runner feels designed to be strapped on before you head out the door and taken off when you return.

Before you head out with the Runner, you'll need to sync it up with the TomTom MySports Connect program and fill out your personal profile. Your age, weight, height and gender will all be collected here, but you can also enter these into the watch directly. Most electric vehicles are automatic – but Toyota are looking to change that for a more classic feel TomTom is probably most famous for diverting the ire of angry, lost drivers from long-suffering partners to a disembodied, windscreen-mounted voice, but its sports devices are now an increasing priority for the firm. The TomTom Runner 2 gets a lot right. The online software is a bit rubbish for more serious analytical types (as some runners are). However it’s fine as a basic app/web solution. In any case you can automate a link to STRAVA and most other online services from there. Ask if you want to know how (fitnesssyncer.com)If the compass screen WOULD point to the starting point then I think this could work for me as it’s functionality would match POI navigation (to the starting point) as in the movie above. edit: I lost a fair amount of weight while marathon training and I have thin wrists. In the winter when there’s less blood flow, I found it tough to get the HRM to work consistently. In warmer months it was fine. If you have a small wrist, there is a small wrist band option. It helps being able to make it a little tighter in cold weather. The prior strap I had was on the tightest setting. TomTom's also released its MySports app for iOS (sorry Android users, you'll have to wait a bit longer) to allow for immediate data syncing via Bluetooth. The 220 also works with the Garmin Connect app, which has a strong social component for challenges and motivation, as well as a smart coach feature with training plans and more. Syncing is automatic as well. On top of all that, it has a high-resolution colour display, it’s easy to use, and it’s comfortable to wear.

GO UP: Would take you to your history or if you arrive at this screen at the end of a session it would go up to show a summary of your session. If you have vibration alerts or audible beeps or buzzes on your current watch then TomTom’s Voice Coach is exactly the same except a piece of pre-recorded audio instruction is played to you though the headphone at the appropriate time. There are also a few ‘Get-Ready’ generic-type messages. The MIO Link optical wrist band, for example, is 10 hours. The optical Garmin 225 is about 7 hours. The Mio hasn’t got a screen and the Garmin doesn’t play music. What you see on your TomTom Runner screen is customisable with seven options to choose from for both the top left and top right hand side. This is the area that will most likely benefit from new firmware updates throughout 2017. Such updates will also benefit the Runner/Spark’s new baby sister-watch – The Adventurer. They all have the same navigational functionality. The 91 steps on the right probably reflects my post-breakfast, early morning activity. There’s been lots of wear and tear on my fingers and bum but little on the soles of my shoes. The Runner 3/Spark 3 is probably not the best choice for a 5-times-a-week super-serious runner into their stats nor for the multi-sport triathlete in need of power meter functionality on their bike. But it will certainly cope, to a degree, with the rigours of those particular endeavours perhaps as more of a training aid (music) rather than a race computer.
