Goals of this setup is to go more minimalist in use. My wife does not care for the AVR setup currently and gets frustrated with all the inputs that need to be juggled and I can't say I blame her. Hello everyone, I tried the Topping E50 MQA, with this dac I like to listen to Tidal master unfortunately for convenience I would like to transmit MQA from the smartphone in wifi. Consider removing the “solution” tag, since that’s definitely not the correct way to set things up in this scenario… If you only need a DAC to use with powered speakers, you can skip buying an amp completely. That’s because the E50 has a preamplifier mode. WIth this mode selected, you can control the output volume with the remote control. Product highlights

I tested this DAC with a Windows 10 laptop and was able to engage Exclusive Mode. But it’s SMSL not Topping so perhaps mine is different somehow. Get HiFi decoding not only with the USB input but with the coax and optical as well. The E50’s coax and optical inputs support 24-bit/192kHz PCM, DSD64 (DoP), and MQA rendering. Ok, thanks. And is that because a) Bluesound wants it to work that way and forces it or b) that's how Tidal behaves on the Node or c) because the DAC is not actually capable of that first unfold over coax and the Node knows that so it does it. Or d) some other reason? The Chromecast Audio has been fantastic for years, surprisingly not much of a following and shame it's discontinued. Just annoying no gapless but I'll probably keep it plugged into Optical possibly. I think it's not as useful if you have LDAC but don't prefer bluetooth in general. OFS is a valid state of MQA indication for when a device receives an MQA signal already decoded by a downstream piece of hardware or software. As signals decoded downstream cannot be authenticated in the same manner as the original un-decoded bitstream we use ‘OFS’ which stand for ‘Original Frequency Spectrum’ to show this is still an authenticated MQA stream, and the end point device is rendering correctly, based on the Original Frequency Spectrum.

For anyone following, I got a second E50, and have had 0 issues using it the past couple of days. Looks like my first one was a defective unit.

I think i finally found resonably priced good dac that satisfy my needs. Just could anyone confirm here two things, would appreciate:|Headphones: Sennheiser HD660S2 | HIFIMAN Sundara | AirPods Pro 2 | Audio Technica ATH-M50X | AKG K371 | Sennheiser HD380 Pro If you operate the volume without knowing this, it will cause serious troubles such as destroying the speaker. I immediately reported this issue to Topping. I hope it will be improved as soon as possible. Advice above is best for current situation. Tidal are working on making their desktop app tidal connect capable so if you are prepared to wait, you could save money buying a streamer and instead use your phone to control tidal on the pc and leave it wired to the dac.

This new Topping DAC says it supports full MQA decoding over all inputs incl coax. Have my Node 2i connected via coax and set to support an MQA External DAC. When I play MQA files via Tidal, the Node now shows the song as either "CD" or "HR" (vs "MQA") and the DAC displays PCM. The problem that you face that I’m not sure about is that your turntable source would be better using the E50 as the preamp, but if you wanted to use the Shield remote it would be better in DAC mode. Further noticed that the start of songs can be "ever so slightly" trimmed as DAC changes its resolution.
