About this deal

One key difference here is weight. The Adidas came in at 209 grams, with the Wireless Train tipping the scales at 240 grams. It’s not overtly noticeable, as each pair of headphones distributes the weight well. But if you’re trying to keep your headphones as light as possible, this is surely something to make note of. In the effort to make the ear cushions comfortable, UA hasn’t forgotten about hygiene, either; these cushions can be removed and hand-washed. On the design front, UA clearly understands the needs of its users, and the only issue I had was a slight looseness around the ears when lying on a workout bench. A big issue with the design is that the ear cups are small and, while the padding is soft and breathable, the headphones are still uncomfortable to wear for extended periods. More on this in a bit.

Active mode is best saved for runs, retaining a degree of noise-cancelling whilst letting in some ambient sounds to establish awareness of surroundings. For starters, this Sony HT-A5000 soundbar has Dolby Atmos support for immersive sound plus additional features, like 360 spatial sound that adapts to the environment, smart calibration to match your room, and much more. While previously, the Sony HT-A3000 was the best budget option in the series, this price drop should put the HT-A5000 on everyone's radar. This is one of the more premium charging cases on the market: an aluminum cover sheathes a sliding plastic piece that holds the earbuds. One end of the case has a fabric loop, so you can clip it onto a bag or hang it from a wall hook. The other end of the case houses a rubberized flap to protect the USB-C port. However, as a result of the proficiency of the other presets on offer, this isn’t a dealbreaker; but it does make me wonder how such an oversight could have occurred. After all, Dwayne Johnson’s involvement is all over the box and is the main attraction for anyone after a pair of gym-ready headphones.Songs like Dierks Bentley’s Burning Man or the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ By The Way suggested the Wireless Train were able to avoid getting muddy or cramped. There are better sounding headphones –lots of them in fact — but for workout cans, these were more than sufficient. I’m pleased that JBL has considered outdoor activities; however, personally I’ve had more use out of the dedicated Ambient mode. There are a couple of options to choose from: Ambient Aware pulls in all external noise to be heard alongside music; TalkThru lowers the volume and hones in on nearby conversations so you can engage in chit-chat without removing the headphones. Ambient Aware technology allows you to listen to your music, but still be aware of your surroundings We test every pair of earbuds we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use industry standard tests to compare features properly. We’ll always tell you what we find. We never, ever, accept money to review a product. hour battery life with fast charging—Speed Charge gets 2 hours in 5 minutes & fully charged in 2 hours

This same sweat resistance is evident with the ear cups. The padding around them is breathable, which helps relieve some sweat buildup, plus the pads are removable for easy cleaning. The inside of each cup brandishes either an “L” or “R” so you know which ears they go on. JBL estimates battery life to be roughly 16 hours, but your results will vary with your volume levels. Performance Pressing the Under Armour logo on the right earcup will drop down your music volume and pipe in surrounding sounds. Audio quality UA Stormproof waterproof technology with an IPX7 rating for water & sweat protection during your workouts UA Storm Super Grip maximizes stability & UA SuperVent ear cushions are breathable, light & fast-dryingThe Under Armour True Wireless feature Bluetooth 4.2 rather than the latest Bluetooth 5.0 standard, and there are occasions when the connection feels a bit patchy – though we never found it cut out entirely. I’m not thrilled about the Wireless Train supporting just Bluetooth 4.1 technology, since it means connectivity and range aren’t up to par with devices that support the newer, better Bluetooth 5 standard. This brings up an important caveat about the Wireless Train: At the time of this review, they’re already two years old. In tech time, that’s about a century. After reviewing the Adidas RPT-01, I went looking for the closest comparison I could find. The Wireless Train were the clear answer because of their price and design, and unfortunately for these headphones, they’re going to be rated by modern-day standards instead of their heyday in 2018. Everyday is the go-to default, and it does a fine job of keeping unwanted noise at bay. It isn’t quite as powerful as the noise-cancelling on Sony’s premium headphones, but it extinguishes the gym radio to a barely audible hum. JBL says the headphones have an ingress protection rating of IPX4, which means they can handle splashing water, but can't really take much water pressure (like from a nozzle or jet) and shouldn't be submerged. Generally speaking, this is a fairly low IP rating for sports-focused audio gear, but on-ear headphones are a bit tougher to make completely waterproof. If a more watertight option is a priority, consider an in-ear pair. As you'd expect, the headphones can play quite loud without distortion, but those around you will notice some sound leakage (even at 50% volume). As mentioned, there's no noise cancellation, which makes a certain amount of sense -- since they're for working out, and you probably should know your surroundings -- but it seems like an oversight to me, especially at this price point.

From indoor cycling to skateboarding, these earbuds served me well during all of my activities. Whenever I cycle, I become grossly sweaty but the IPX7-rated UA True Wireless FLASH X by JBL handled my perspiration like a champ. The buttons were easy to control with sweaty palms and fingers; I only wish that volume controls were enabled directly from the headset. Athletes who use chalk may want to use these earbuds with caution because they aren’t officially dust-resistant. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. See how we test. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless earbuds, by comparison, probably have superior audio, but include difficult and imprecise touch controls, when it would have been simpler to remove some from the equation. The first start-up the Wireless Train is slightly quirky, at least if you’re like me and stubbornly refuse to read the fine print before trying out your new pair of headphones. The power button is a toggle switch that needs to be held in place for two seconds before powering up. From there, though, the headphones automatically enter pairing mode, allowing you to follow the standard procedure of pairing your mobile device through its Bluetooth settings.

If Under Armor can be thanked for the design, it’s clear JBL’s sound-engineering expertise drives the device’s feature set. Active noise cancellation is present, and there are two modes to choose from: Everyday and Active. It only takes two hours to charge the case fully, though there is no speed charge feature – like with the Jaybird Tarah Pro, which can cram in a workout’s worth of battery in only a few minutes. Performance Audio tinkerers may find that the JBL Headphones app opens up a lot of custom EQ options to play with. Whenever a celebrity gets involved in a piece of tech, I can’t help but wince since it’s usually a warning sign for what’s in store. Will.i.am put his name to a number of bizarre products in the 2010s (does anyone remember the Puls smartwatch?), and who can forget Soulja Boy’s disastrous gaming console? (Clearly most of us have.)

The Wireless Train may not have gotten as deep into the low end as the Adidas were capable of, but they still had solid, refined bass. More importantly, they simply filled out the rest of the frequency spectrum better. The Wireless Train have 40mm drivers with a frequency response range of 16-20,000Hz, and they prove to be exactly as capable as those specifications might suggest. Another great audio brand that has stepped into the exercise sphere is Jabra. The Jabra Elite Active 75t are IPX7-rated and forgo extreme battery life, though the Elite Active 75t is still very good, for a more compact and versatile design. You can EQ the sound in the Jabra companion app, and take a hearing test to create a custom sound profile. There’s also a function button on the left-hand ear-cup to summon the preferred digital assistant on a mobile device, or toggle between the Everyday and Active ANC modes. While I appreciate the button being there, it would have been nice had it delivered a bit more functionality, such as the ability to toggle various EQ presets. HEADS UP: We're currently experiencing extended wait times on this customer service line. We're sorry for the delay, and are doing our best to resolve your inquiries ASAP. Includes: 3 size ear tips, 3 winged ear tip enhancers, charging case with Micro-USB port & charging cableA built-in array of three mics allows for TalkThru mode—tapping the Under Armour logo on the outer panel of the right ear fades out your music and allows you to hear your surroundings without removing the headphones. For voice calls, the mic offers average intelligibility. Using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone 6s, we understood each word we recorded, though there were some typical, fuzzy Bluetooth audio artifacts. The inline mic for the cable delivers solid clarity, with some added bass depth. Mashable is a registered trademark of Ziff Davis and may not be used by third parties without express written permission. Athletes should put these earbuds on their lists because they’re extremely durable as proven by the IPX7 rating. Plus, the ear and wing tip combination keeps the earbuds in place during intense exercises.
