Lovers of kid lit will totally appreciate the ADVENTURE, DRAMA, ACTION, and...COWBOYS! Julius Caesar said he saw one in a forest in Germany during his conquest of Gaul, and Marco Polo said he saw one too, but that one turned out to be a rhinoceros. Disappointing.

A wonderfully fun and brilliantly interactive picture book for all ages. I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers. Since graduating from UWE Bristol in 1996, Fred has worked on all manner of projects, including greetings, editorial, advertising, publishing and animation - designing a series of animated spots for the BBC. He now works mostly in children's books, illustrating several titles for Usborne publishing, amongst others.

Fred never wanted to be an astronaut or drive a train when he grew up. Right from the beginning he knew he wanted to draw silly pictures for a living... and some decades later he's living the dream! The underlying message given in this book gets golden hearts and sparkly diamonds from this reader. The illustrations are energetic and funny, and the unicorn and pug continue to insert themselves in the author's Wild West story in amusing ways. However, there have been so many meta children's stories like this in recent years that this one doesn't especially stand out, except for major unicorn fans and kids who, like the book's narrator, are tired of the unicorn trend.
