La historia en contada en dos tiempos en Soho, en la postguerra de los años 20s por Arlette y por Betty en los 90s. I especially enjoyed the dual points of view explored in the book – of Arlette, a young woman in 1920s London, and her step-granddaughter Betty, in 1990s London. There are wonderful parallels and also juxtaposition of the women’s experiences that made for a compelling and powerful read. The characters are multi-faceted and realistic and likeable, and I was rather sad by the end of the book that their story had come to an end. I was about due for a book to stir up some emotions in me. Sometimes the apathy can actually get tiring! Experiencing Before I Met You felt like a jump-start to my soul. I needed these feels! The words were so pretty! I kid you not, I was lying on a screwdriver in my bed and was vaguely aware of something poking me, yet I kept on reading because I was completely enraptured by an extremely beautiful scene. Here she was, torn between the man who kept her safe and the man who made her feel mad with wanting. You misunderstand," said Alois. "Lady Marianne has plenty of men to guard her. What I want you to do is keep her company."

I’m a big fan of Jewell’s early work it’s so much more engaging than the later stuff. It’s not edge of the seat thriller but it pulls you in and you invest in the characters. Until I Met You" is a song written by Hank Riddle and recorded by American country music artist Loretta Lynn for her 1980 album Lookin' Good. New faces, new spaces, and new places. Three simple rhymes, but I couldn't bring myself to feel comfortable with any of them. Still, she didn't regret her choice, and her two years of hard work were finally coming to a head. Her savings had finally grown large enough to buy her a new life, and not a moment too soon. People were starting to get suspicious because she hadn't grown a centimeter since arriving at Garreg Mach. Victor the squire would have to disappear very soon. I liked it so much. It was an enjoyable read and heartwarming even though there is some sadness in it.One more thing: as this is an AU, some characters will not be the same as they are in canon. I have used some canon elements, but for the most part, this fic has no connection to the main story of Three Houses. He was said to have eyes like a beast and a heart made of ice. Few who crossed swords with him lived to tell the tale, and he was said to leave piles of corpses and a sea of blood in his wake. He spoke little, but every word was as bracing and harsh as a winter gale. His glare alone caused his enemies to throw down their weapons and beg for mercy. Arlette was a very picturesque person in her way of dressing, she did not appreciate her only son, but from the first moment she saw Betty she assumed her as a friend, granddaughter, companion and confidant. She had never left Guernsey Island, or so everyone thought. Her ragged clothes and the dirt coating every inch of her body worked to her advantage. Not a single one of the knights recognized her. In fact, they mistook her for a young village boy, which was exactly what she had hoped for. After spinning a tale about how her village was destroyed and she was left orphaned—which wasn't that far from the truth, actually—the leader of the knights, Alois, took pity on her and offered to take her to Garreg Mach Monastery. Say no more," Alois interrupted. "It's only natural for you to be nervous about marrying someone you've never met. You don't have to talk about it if it makes you uncomfortable."

La historia de Arlette es infinitamente mas interesante, pero también mucho mas triste y arrolladora. As the news sunk in, relief swept over her so strongly that she almost laughed. If Felix was betrothed to another, that meant she was finally free. That relief was followed almost immediately by a surge of guilt. No one, especially someone as delicate-looking as Marianne, deserved a fate as horrible as being married to the Wolf. The guilt soon gave away to a cold terror that gripped Annette with such ferocity that her meal turned to ash in her stomach. What if she was discovered before the marriage took place? If Felix knew she was alive, would her betrothal to him still stand? If her leather armor was stripped away and her true identity was exposed, would that make her the pitiable woman standing next to him at the altar instead of Marianne? By the end of the book, I found myself wanting to visit London and the locations that feature in the story, so alive did the characters feel to me. The book flips between dual stories of a young woman in 1995 and her grandmother in the 1920s, tied through a mystery the granddaughter is trying to solve about her family’s past. Their stories, unbeknownst to either of them, have many parallels as they set out from Guernsey to try life in London. They both learn, for good or bad, that one person’s actions can reverberate across the lives of many. I thought that the prose was a bit too drawn out for the content and the choices the characters made didn't always make sense to me. I couldn't relate to them or what they were experiencing. Overall, this was an ok read, but nothing special. There are much better Lisa Jewell book selections.

"If we're going to escort you, we need to know your destination." In fact, she had been planning on doing just that within the week. However, if someone needed the Knights of Seiros, which was often, she had no choice but to delay. Her absence would be too conspicuous.
