p.249 Jade always complained about how hard it was to be on antipsychotic medications…… I’m beginning to realize what she has gone through over the last 8 years. p.122 “They’re never going to get my medications right.” Jade grumbles “They’ve been trying for the last 8 years.” freida mcfadden’s thrillers are absolutely delectable and just so much fun. while i’m still new to the author, her storytelling & writing style make it so difficult to put down her books and just have your mind swirling with theories. But I have to remember that I am talking to a man with paranoid schizophrenia. A man who has been hearing voices." I am a big fan of Freida McFadden, particularly her Housemaid duet. However, this book just did not work for me. First and foremost, the mental health rep was done in such a negative way, I worry that those who suffer from the illnesses represented will be further stigmatized. Derogatory terms were used by the “medical professionals” further adding to this negative portrayal.

Liars fidget. The tone of their voice or speech patterns changes. Liars offer too much information, babbling on with excessive detail to convince themselves or others of what they are saying.” That’s all you’ll get from me about the plot/storyline. Anything else could be a spoiler, and no spoilers allowed here! Dear McFadden. I know you’re a doctor and probably have immense respect for humans in need. Why then, do I get the feeling that you have prejudices towards people with mental health issues ? Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I will assume that you created a character who true to form had to protect herself by projecting her fear of herself onto others. Still, I don’t like how the patients in ward D are depicted. Terrible and harmful representation of mental illness. Missed opportunity... DNF after reading 'crazy'/some other negative bullshit too many times. So I kept thinking of that nurses review and it hit me. Perhaps they just don't know how a violent psyche patient gets delivered to them because when they have gone through the process they are delivered in a catatonic/zombie like state to the psyche floor and are no longer any problem at all.It felt like such a negative representation of mental illnesses from how Amy described them, she did not sound professional at all. For example, she described patients as “crazy” and people who have lost their mind. Despite its few shortcomings, Freida McFadden’s writing style remains a highlight of “Ward D.” Her ability to craft engaging prose and weave intricate plotlines is commendable. The book maintains a fast pace throughout, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The characters are well-developed and their interactions contribute to the unique atmosphere of the ward. There isn’t much that surprises me when it comes to reading books. I’m what you’d call a seasoned vet. Having said that, you have to be a pretty good author to fool me in a story line, but I have to say McFadden did an amazing job in keeping the reader guessing. Like all Frieda McFadden books Ward D was full if twists and turns - some predictable and others not. Will Amy survive the night? Medical student Amy is doing a night shift at Ward D, a psychiatric ward in Long Island. Amy is anxious and on edge the whole night and rightfully so when people go missing and weird things are happening.

For me this one is (more silly than serious) with some pretty animated characters. The Mad Hatter could be possibly in for the night, or Spider Man may make an appearance!🕸️ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ Freida-McFadden-Author-of- Psychological-Thrillers-and- Medical-Humor-400860063303345/Some readers may find the plot too far-fetched and unrealistic, especially those with experience in mental health care. I have noticed that I tend to not like thrillers that have characters with mental illness cause I’ve always thought it seems like a cop out or lazy red herring by the author just to throw readers off and keep them guessing. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t recommend this book because it is unable to offer you the courtesy of a decent representation on a certain important matter. Nevertheless, this is recommendable if you’re in it purely for the fiction & the Mad Hatter-ness. Especially, for those who enjoy medical or escape room type mystery. 🙌

I’m not dead. Did you think I was? That I’m some corpse my husband propped up in front of the second-floor window to frighten his guests? I’m not. I’m very much alive. And I’m afraid my husband is a murderer.” Psychological studies have demonstrated that men have more amorous feelings towards women wearing red than any other color. They are more likely to express the desire to take a woman wearing red out on a date, and are also willing to spend more money on the date. Moreover, the men in these studies could not identify the origin of these feelings. They just liked the girl in red.” I listened to this audiobook and really enjoyed the narration by Leslie Howard. She did an amazing job, I look forward to listening to more books narrated by her. Like I said the book is kind of flawed and yet I so enjoyed it. I cannot see any of it happening really but can you see zombie's happening, vampires and werewolves happening? Of course not and yet there are so many great books concerning those subjects. So yeah this is so unlikely and yet so good.True confessions.. I’m a McFan. A full-blown Freida McFadden fanboy; someone who has read all 19 of her published books, including three categorized as “Women’s Fiction.” If she re-wrote the phone book, I’d read it–and enjoy it.
