Ripped from the Headlines: The sniper in the 2005 episode 'Synchronicity' is clearly based on the 2002 D.C./Beltway sniper shootings, down to leaving playing cards at the scenes of the shootings. Exposition Victim: Tony is the very worst at this. When he gets cornered by a psychotic killer about to torture him to death, his first priority seems to be figuring out why, rather than trying to defend himself. That this is completely in-character for Tony, of all people, makes this a rather unconventional use of this trope. The fact that questioning the killer, getting into their head and manipulating them is the one way Tony is likely to survive gives us quite a few Moments Of Awesome. Only one officer comes up with a theory, but it's too wild... that is, until one of their number is murdered and mutilated. Dr Anthony ‘Tony’ Valentine Hill is a fictional character created by Scottish crime writer Val McDermid. He is portrayed by actor Robson Green in the ITV television series Wire in the Blood based on her Tony Hill and Carol Jordan series of novels. Gay Cruising: The opening two-parter "The Mermaids Singing" has a serial killer apparently preying on closeted gay men and dumping their bodies in cruising spots. This leads the police to put Don undercover as a cruiser to try and see what the world on the street is. While cruising is depicted, it is actually a misdirection by the real killer, a gay man who "believes" he's a woman and sexually tortures straight men.

Tony also finds himself a prime suspect in a police investigation when a woman who tries to seduce him is found dead. The acting overall is fine; Green's outstanding acting seemingly makes all of his fellow actors elevate their performances. The stories are quite compelling, but the real interest is in the way Green solves the murders, using his training as a psychologist who teaches at a university and in at least one episode is seen acting as a therapist. His credentials are present just to make him initially credible. He has the intelligence, training, and experience to solve complex crimes. My favorite aspect is without a doubt Robson Green as the forensic psychologist Tony Hill. His weary and distraught appearance is enough for this to be worth watching. Also his interaction with Hermione Norris as the steely CID Carol Jordan is entertaining as well as many times touching.

What You Are in the Dark: Of course Tony gets this, especially considering how he immerses himself in the minds of violent killers. Murderer P.O.V.: One way for the show to start seeing the murder from the murderer's point of view. Alternatively we get to see a highly significant but cryptic action taken just before or just after.

I have been seeing quite a lot of this show on TV lately and i find it surprisingly entertaining. Surprisingly because i'm usually no fan at all of the serial-killer genre nor the kind of grisly imagery that this show always provides. But the gratuitous images and the worn-out theme aside this show has a lot to offer. The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's general notability guideline. If notability cannot be shown, the article is likely to be merged, redirected, or deleted. Tony is paired with DCI Carol Jordan in seasons 1-3, and Detective Alex Fielding in 4. Both women command the Major Incident Team and act as something of a foil to Tony's flights of deductive imagination. There is an ongoing low-boil romantic tension between him and both women. Filming is now under way for a sixth series of WITB. Again, we’ve got a terrific set of scripts and from what I’ve seen so far, performances to match. The special that was filmed in Texas over the summer, Prayer of the Bone, will be aired early in the New Year, so keep an eye on the UK TV schedules and make sure you don’t miss it. I guarantee it’ll have you sweating in your seat.”
