About this deal

Thank you for the question. We've included a USB-To-Host connection on the P-45 Piano. Once connected to a Mac or Windows PC (or to a iOS device), a MIDI connection is created and the P-45 becomes a MIDI controller for Cubase, Logic and other MIDI-aware apps and programmes. You might imagine that with an electric piano, all keys would feel the same. And that would be true, except that Yamaha gave the P45 88-key weighted-action. It uses Graded Hammer Action so that when you play the Yamaha P45, you feel the same action as when you play a traditional piano.

Exampls of items that are bundled with the Yamaha P45 – stool, stand for piano, earphones, carrying case, and sheet musicFor its fairly affordably price, you get a very decent digital piano with realistic piano sound and a full-size hammer-action keyboard, which mimics that of an acoustic piano. Duo Mode splits the keyboard into two equal sections that have the same pitch ranges. It allows two people to sit side by side and play the same notes at the same time.

Here is one more reason why we like this keyboard for beginners. There are 10 pre-set songs, along with 10 demos that you can use to play along with. A limited polyphony will make it very difficult to play more complex classical pieces because any sound older than the last 64 will just be cut off. Weighing in at only 11.5kg, this compact piano is easily moved from place to place, whether that’s to piano lessons, jam sessions, or even gigs. The in-built speakers offer a rich sound on the go, while the headphone out makes it possible to practice in peace and quiet. One downside of the key action is that it uses only two sensors. This makes it harder to play fast repeated notes and also harder to control the sound while doing so.

The sustain pedal does its job however does not feel like a real pedal and there’s no way to hold it in place other than tape/glue it on the floor. If you’re like most serious musicians, you want the absolute best instrument you can get, and from a manufacturer that you can trust. And you don’t want to spend a fortune if you can help it. One of the best things about the P45B is the key action. Each key is weighted, so it is heavier in the low notes and lighter in the high notes. Although the P-45 will fit into the Yamaha bag, there many other durable gig bags out there that will fit the P-45 just fine, including Casio’s PRIVCASE Privia Case, Gator cases, and so on.Also located on the rear of the unit is a useful USB connection. This can be used to turn the P-45 into a powerful MIDI controller, and it’s a handy feature for any budding home producer.

Split Mode, which would allow you to split the keyboard between two different sounds, is not available on the P-45. The keyboard replicates the feel of the hammers inside an acoustic instrument, using actual little hammers inside the keyboard rather than springs (semi-weighted actions). Control panel of the P-45 is very simple and straightforward. There are only two buttons and a volume control. You won’t find many digital pianos in this price range that have chorus and reverb effects. This is going to allow you to create sounds that have much warmer sound quality. The GHS action has heavier touch in the low end and lighter touch in the high end just like an acoustic piano. However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. So let’s talk about the sound. Overall the sounds contained within the P-45 are great - the grand piano in particular. Although 10 voices is a lot less than some other beginner pianos on the market, each sound here is very usable. Yamaha has cleverly included sounds players actually want, meaning there are no unwanted voices you simply won’t use. The single button interface means choosing a sound is very simple, and the minimal approach leads to a sleek, uncluttered look. But you’re a beginner on a budget and looking for a simple, no-frills digital piano with fully weighted keys, realistic piano sound, the P-45 is a great keyboard to consider.
