Praised by many in the industry, Adam monitors pair exceptional quality with practicality and affordability, the A5X is no exception, at home in a small or The company initially made its mark with the ART ribbon tweeter, its refinement of the Air Motion Transformer (AMT) designed in the 1960s by Oskar Heil. Instead of producing sound by means of a vibrating diaphragm, the ART (and ADAM Audio’s subsequent generations of the concept, X-ART and S-ART) employs a pleated diaphragm capable of moving the air four times faster than its own folds – hence the ART name (Accelerating Ribbon Technology). But the innovation doesn’t stop with the tweeter. My only concern is that the A5X (and to a greater extent the new A8X), are slightly more scooped and forgiving in the midrange than earlier ADAMs. The A4V is a two-way speaker incorporating a 4-inch long-throw woofer made from the same Multi-Layer Mineral (MLM) fibers as other A Series speakers plus the classic X-ART tweeter. Onboard DSP-based tuning capabilities let you easily dial in the perfect sound for your space. T7v offer incredible value — I use them and they’re great. The A7x are definitely better… whether they are enough better to justify the extra cost, is up to you.

Claid, at least you are making music while I am scouring monitor comparisons online… in an untreated room lol Overall, it's a heady mix and IDEALLY suited to a DAC output like the Chord series which are so highly resolving-yet-musical that they deserve nothing less. Mumdad, yours is another vote for the Genelecs! I was pretty set on going with the ADAMs but more and more people are recommending the 8030C’s. And yeah that raw finish is absolutely fire. I am lusting for it too… Although the ASP8s are fun listening in their own way (and may have a greater appeal to some listeners) if I had to mix on just one set of monitors, I’d trust the smaller A5Xs more.Along with my high hopes for the new AX series came a healthy dose of skepticism. As an evangelical fan of the original S3A and A7, I didn’t really think the ADAM line needed to change much, and was worried that the company would lose sight of what made their products great as they tried to open up to an even wider market. gain control is located on the front panel, right next to the power switch. If you've ever had to play Twister just to turn on or turn up your monitors in a studio setting, you'll immediately appreciate this design. You'll also find both RCA and XLR inputs on the rear panel. hi Dreambass, yeah Im with you too on the hifi-vs-powered monitors. I think the way we listen to music is changing; many new and interesting ways to evolve a system. Relative to the KEFs they are a definitive step up in terms of resolution of detail, lower colouration (in the nearfield - equal at distance), bass definition, soundstage depth, separation, dynamics. The A5Xs do sound very similar tonally to the KEFs which surprised me a little; I guess the KEFs are pretty well balanced! Many technical innovations in our high end SX-Series are also used in the AX models. The chamfered upper corners of the sturdy cabinet fronts minimize edge diffraction so that phase cancellation is not an issue. The speaker interior is equipped with a special fleece that prevents disturbing internal resonances as well as ensuring a better bass reflex tuning. The power switch and volume control are easily accessible on the front panel for greater ease of use. The front-firing bass ports are very useful as well, allowing the monitors to be set up closer to a wall if need be.

If using a convoluted ribbon seems like an unnecessarily, erm, convoluted way of making a tweeter, the benefits cited for using ribbons in the first place include a more consistent impedance, as there's no voice‑coil inductance to take into account. The diaphragm is also freed of the inertial burden of a voice‑coil assembly, so if the design is done correctly, it's possible to build a high‑efficiency tweeter with a linear impedance and a close to perfect phase response within the operating frequency range. The neodymium magnetic arrangement used to drive the ribbon just happens to produce a natural magnetic shield, which is helpful — but in Adam's design there's no magnetic shielding around the woofer, so operation very close to old CRT monitors is inadvisable. What's New? To my ears, these speakers sound remarkably free of strange and misleading resonances down to 80hz or even lower. Down around 50hz or so, I finally start to feel the slightly sluggish response inherent in all ported designs, although it occurs at levels much less significant than in many monitors in the same price range. Why would a port even be doing cancellation at a frequency that's like 3 to 4 octaves higher than the port tuning frequency. Ok, I get why it happens, but not why we allow it to continue. Is it worth it to get monitors if producing in an untreated room or should I just continue with headphones? I was particularly surprised to find out just how deep the compact A5X model can go. And it doesn’t just go low. It goes low and stays clean – Much cleaner than many ported studio monitors on the market.I focused on the A range which seemed to offer the decisive , razor sharp "Adam" sound, and fell within budget. The ART (Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeters and mid-range drivers incorporate a new approach to the Air Motion Transformer concept originally developed by Dr Oskar Heil. ADAM Audio has refined the original, innovative design, employing superior geometries and materials to achieve unprecedented audio fidelity. The newly developed tweeter design has become the embodiment of the transparent, highly defined, accurate audio for which ADAM Audio is now respected. Our R&D team has been working behind closed doors for many years to create this 3rd generation A Series line,” says Christian Hellinger, CEO of ADAM Audio. “We have employed best engineering practices, modern materials technology and advanced DSP to create the new A Series, a range of studio monitors that offer stunning clarity and low distortion, utilizing new woofers and midrange drivers. And probably most important for our end customers: the A Series speakers are designed to be adaptable to changing requirements, preferences, and environments. Using the A Control software, you can push advanced filters directly to an embedded platform onboard the monitors to help compensate for imperfect room acoustics. The Adam A7 features an integrated A/B amplifier, designed specifically to partner with the X-Art tweeter and driver. Adam Monitors utilise the highest-grade components and technological advances to ensure optimal audio quality and performance. The integrated power amp is no exception, with its ultra-low distortion and excellent damping factor. The amplifier features an internal bandwidth of more than 1 MHz, delivering an ultra-wide response up to 300kHz. With its simple yet effective design, the high frequency power amp ensures optimal audio performance for your X-Art tweeter and driver. Stereolink

up, the A5Xs; a much more balanced sound. And oddly much less apparent bass than the A3X (clearly the designers had hyped up the bass output of the little 3s) It didn't take long for me to confirm that the A5s really are just slightly scaled–down A7s: they have the same clarity and definition, as well as excellent stereo imaging; and given that some of Adam's speaker models are voiced differently, this is an important point to make. The A5s really are quite revealing, largely due to that unique tweeter — so if anything in the mix sounds a bit off-colour, they'll tell you, as good monitors should. By the same token, good mixes really shine, and given their size and price, there's nothing much not to like. Because the woofer is relatively small, the range of the two drivers meets nicely at the crossover point, delivering a confident and comfortable mid range, which is something that can't always be said of larger two-way monitors, where the woofer is sometimes asked to reproduce frequencies higher than is ideal.

Even after sitting with them for a couple of weeks, I’m still impressed these little speakers go that low at all, not to mention that well.
