About this deal

Whether you choose to live with a roommate, or fly solo, you’ll first need to decide what you can afford. On top of that, your social circle is likely to change. Through work and/or school, you’ll meet new people, start new romantic relationships, have new bosses and classmates… it can be quite overwhelming! Before joining IBM, Mr. Smith was President and Chief Operating Officer of a public software and business process outsourcing company. Choosing who you live with is just as important as choosing where you live. This person (or these people) will be a big part of your life, so it’s important you find someone whose lifestyle and habits match your own. This doesn’t always mean you want to choose your best friend—more than one solid friendship has ended because someone neglects the dishes in the sink. Welcome to Adulting - A 7-Day Devotional by Jonathan “JP” Pokluda. For many of us, transitioning from school to adulthood is difficult. But sometimes we make it harder than it needs to be. In this devotional, we’ll see ...

Our article runs through the pros and cons of living by yourself, and also gives you advice on what to think about before you make the move. A family man and ardent supporter of BetterMan, Bill Smith lives in Dallas with his wife, where they are active members of Watermark Community Church, serving in the premarital ministry, Merge. When not lending wisdom and direction to his Church and BetterMan, Mr. Smith is devoted to loving and serving his family—his three sons, their wives and his wonderful grandchildren. A core part of learning how to adult is giving yourself the time and brainspace to explore yourself. What kind of adult will you be? What passions will you pursue (in and out of work)? And perhaps most importantly—will you learn to treat yourself with kindness, so you can live life to its fullest potential? And welcome to FamilyLife Today. Thanks for joining us. I’m guessing there are going to be a lot of moms and dads, who are listening, who are going to be going: “Yes, yes! You tell them! That’s right! Say it again,” because we’re going to be talking about the emerging generation and their need to kind of step into adulthood; right? Living with roommates can be fun if you find the right people, but there’s something to be said for living on your own as well. You can make the apartment truly your space, and you don’t have to worry about those little dramas that often crop up when two or more people are living together.I’m not talking about heading off to college for the first time… but about getting my own place to live. That being said, if you are renting a house from an elderly woman… simple fixes may not be here forte and can take awhile to schedule. As a bonus, if you offer to take care of some minor home repairs yourself, landlords will sometimes give you a discount on rent. Young adults—they want to be called to something. Jesus says, “Come and die.” That was His effective way to reach them—is: “Hey; follow Me. Take up your cross and follow Me.” When we started coming at them with the big ask, saying: “Hey; come and be a part of this movement; and live according to what God says; and study Him; and love Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength,” they really responded to it. Whatever you want to save for is your business, but I highly suggest having at least one month’s cushion saved up… just in case something happens. For now, you may want to consider some of these alternatives to college —there are lots of other options that can help you earn a good living and live a fulfilling life.
