Corbin, Tianna (10 July 2020). "What Alan Carr has had to say about life in Northampton". northantslive . Retrieved 2 May 2022. This is the first such book that I have read and I'm now likely to read others. I found it lovely to take a trip down someone's very personal memory lane. I feel honoured that anybody would be willing to share such personal memories at all, let alone write them down. I love how, with this book, I was brought to laughter by Alan as he described some very depressing times he lived through. Comedian sorry for Matthews joke". BBC News. 7 December 2008. Allen Carr - Wikipedia

Allen John Carr [1] (2 September 1934 – 29 November 2006) was a British author of books about stopping smoking and other psychological dependencies including alcohol addiction. He was like my real life friend for a little while - I would think oh no I need to do some ironing and then, not to worry coz I'll take Alan with me! The brilliantly funny and inimitable Alan Carr tells his life story in his own words, from growing up in a football-mad family in Northampton to his rise to become one of Britain’s best-loved comedians.I also felt like he was constantly shitting on what he deemed to be jobs that were beneath him. Again and again he talked about dead-end jobs and about how shit jobs in offices, shops and factories are. I understand that not everyone wants to work in places like that but some people do, and not all jobs in those environments are dead-end jobs. I know a lot of people who have worked in a supermarket their whole working lives and are still loving it. I know people who have climbed from a Business Admin apprentice to a manager for two departments in the office. Talking down jobs like that is so hurtful, it totally demeans all the people who love those jobs. Carr has always maintained that some of the nastiest people in television are our national treasures; that it’s a problem that the British public so revere their celebrities they want them to be nice, forgetting that television is pure fantasy. “Why is it that we need them to be nice?” he asks rhetorically. “And then people think if they’re not nice, they’ve somehow been lied to.” In 2021, Allen Carr's Easyway assisted the World Health Organisation's year-long global campaign for World No Tobacco Day 2021. Look who it is!: My Story - Alan Carr - Google Books

Graham Carr played for the Cobblers during their only season in the top flight in 1965-66 and managed them when they won the Fourth Division title in 1986-87. Carr died from lung cancer at his home in Benalmádena, west of Málaga, Spain, on 29 November 2006. He was 72 years old. [14] [15] [16]This book is everything I expect from an autobiography.. funny, intimate and self assured with a dash of honesty. I loved how care free Alan Carr was, he named and shamed some celebrities which takes some "balls" and the fact the book embodies his campiness. A very good read. In March 2010, Carr took part in Channel 4's Comedy Gala, a benefit show held at the O2 Arena in aid of Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London. Co-written by Carr, this show knows how to keep your attention with ideal casting all round, but Oliver Savell as the young Alan deserves particular praise for his stand out, star making performance. It would have been very easy for him to fall into caricature but somehow Savell manages to blend Carr's friendly campness and mix it with the real fears of a young boy as he tries to navigate the impending, uncharted teen years without going over the top and keeping the comedy this side of believable and engaging. At Allen Carr Clinics during stop-smoking sessions, smokers are allowed to continue smoking while their doubts and fears are removed, with the aim of encouraging and developing the mindset of a non-smoker before the final cigarette is extinguished. A further reason for allowing smokers to smoke while undergoing counselling is Carr's belief that it is more difficult to convince a smoker to stop until they understand the mechanism of "the nicotine trap". This is because their attention is diminished while they continue to believe it is traumatic and extremely difficult to quit and continue to maintain the belief that they are dependent on nicotine. I laughed so much when reading this book. The audible experience is even better because Alan Carr reads it.

Changing Ends | Release date, cast and latest news for ITVX

A lovely, warm and honest story of Alan Carrs' early days. From unambitious student, through soul destroying call centre jobs to television personality and presenter. This autobiography stops at the point of his first presenting job on the Friday Night Project. Allen Carr's Easyway: Celebrity Endorsements". Archived from the original on 22 June 2019 . Retrieved 9 December 2012. I read this book because somebody that I know recommended it to me last year. I’ve just managed to get round to reading it, and overall I would say that it has left a mixed impression behind. I love Alan Carr, put him on the tele and you are bound to be in stitches, his voice, facial expressions, I could listen to him all day. So when I saw this book years ago I bought it and it has stayed on my TBRM for years. I finally got round to it. I read it all in his voice which just adds to the humour.

Alan Carr Biography

I quite like reading memoirs and biographies from comedians and this was bang average, nothing spectacular stood out but it wasn't dreadful either.
