When taken with alcohol, the effects of acetylsalicylic acid on the gastro- intestinal tract may increase. Do not take Alka-Seltzer XS if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or trying for a baby unless directed by your doctor. Aspirin can prolong labour and affect blood clotting in the mother or baby. Central nervous system features including confusion, disorientation, coma and convulsions are less common in adults than in children. Uncommon features include haematemesis, hyperpyrexia, hypoglycaemia, hypokalaemia, thrombocytopaenia, increased INR/PTR, intravascular coagulation, renal failure and non-cardiac pulmonary oedema.
