About this deal

Sadly it's difficult have acamera doing better than a good cell phone now in GOOD CONDITIONS. So good cameras will remain thanks to better results in difficult conditions, ergonomics, autofocus. I get your point, but from my personal experience, I fully agree with the following comment on dpreview: The Alpha 7 IV can shoot compressed RAW files continuously at eight frames per second in Hi mode, or up to 10 frames per second in the Hi+ mode. Like many other Sony Alpha cameras, Hi+ mode does not show a live feed through the EVF, rather it looks like a slide show of images that are slightly behind the real-life action. For that reason, I always choose Hi over Hi+. Also there is no such thing as a perfect camera. If judged by the standard of some illusory perfection, all cameras will seem "crippled" as all engineering is a set of trade offs. Basically what you are comparing is jpeg engine, noise reduction and picture white balance.........

Thom Hogan: Nikon shooter, too biased. Even though he also shoots and writes books on Sony gear, and has been a very outspoken critic of Nikon for years.Comparison tools is for overall idea how camera perform not for fine sensor performance measurements! Second we constantly see how they are moving to the "high margin products" but mas produced 135 format cameras are much more low margin products, and top models are far away from high margin products! So second free market nonsense repeated here! The Sony A7 IV is an extremely powerful, extremely advanced camera with state of the art autofocus, a huge buffer depth and very good video features. It can also be quite complex to set up and use. The A7 IV makes extraordinary things possible, but it doesn’t necessarily make them easy.

And there are many people still using their older D800's, D810's, and of course the D850...these cameras are built to last.

The camera market is and has been shrinking dramatically, due to the smartphone taking over as primary camera for most people. Trouble is there isn't, each generation of camera has a different body. There's no more confluence than other brands. Take a look. no ovf can ever show you what the photo will look like before you take it, which is one reason why dslrs are obsolete and no longer being developed by the camera companies.

Three times in three posts you've tried to push the idea that the A1 uses the same body as the A7IV, despite the fact that the A1 is 100% mag alloy and the A7IV isn't. Despite the fact that the A1 is the heaviest A body and weighs ten percent more than the A7IV. Sure the Z9 battery beats ONE Sony A1 battery - as it should being 3300mAh and 2.3x the weight. But you can add two batteries to the Sony and two A1 batteries are smaller than the single Nikon battery, weigh less, cost less and provide more stamina. If you come to this camera from another Sony model, you will find its settings and controls a logical extension of what you know already, and its performance and capabilities an absolute revelation. Btw what you see is moire due to higher resolution and no low pass filter. Try the Z7 with similar resolution (or any 40MP+ sensor), you will see similar patterns.

The downside of this added flexibility is that you need to engage HEIF capture before you can engage the Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) color/gamma mode, rather than having both settings change to match one another. It's worth trying, though: images shot in HLG can show much more of the camera's dynamic range to give a much more lifelike version of your image if viewed with an HDR-capable TV. In theory, an EVF should be more WYSIWYG than an optical viewfinder. Here, though, the A7 IV has captured a far wider range of tones than the EVF suggested, especially in the shadows. (Image credit: Rod Lawton) Also keep in mind that with smartphones and some computer screens, we are getting higher resolution with higher nits of brightness. So there doesn't have to be a trade off between resolution and brightness. It also gains the ability to shoot 4K/60p for action capture or slow-mo work, but this requires a crop to APS-C/Super 35 dimensions. This footage comes from a 4.6K region. There are also options to use H.265 compression (XAVC HS) and apply the S-Cinetone color profile.

Which one of your cameras can you shoot at ISO 51200 and get great super sharp images at ISO 51200 with little noise? I know you can't or won't answer that question, but I tought I'd ask any way, just to see if you would try. Perhaps if you had read my comment more carefully and less emotionally, you would have noticed that I did not call out Sony specifically. I was careful to direct my inquiry toward "pro-level cameras costing thousands of dollars" because it is *not* just a Sony thing. Capable of 15-stops of dynamic range and improved color reproduction, my first impression of the files coming out of the camera were very positive. The combination of its newly-developed 33-megapixel Exmor R sensor and BIONZ XR image processor produces high-quality, lifelike photos with a healthy amount of resolution. RubberDials: You left off of your list of Canon cameras their flagship models, the 1D series in DSLRs, and now the R3 in mirrorless, which do look distinctively different from all of their other models, even to a lay person.

Muskokaphotog - "Nothing ever looks sharp and accurate manual focus is a joke, even with the peaking. The margin of error in peaking is way too high."
