Stratagem – Tactical Misdirection – 1CP: When one of your units destroys an enemy unit, your opponent gets -1 to hit when shooting against anything else if your unit is their closest target. Valhalla, as the name would suggest, has become a frozen world of ice and death. Their Imperial Guard made their name fending off a tide of Orks, while fighting their own bellies during a food shortage. They’re strong and unflinching in combat, with a Relic that displays their iron will. The Petrov’s MK 45 is a bolt pistol with -1 AP, dealing 2 damage – but it has a side effect that makes it a must-take on the tabletop. It stops more than one Valhallan model fleeing from units within 6 inches, making your meat shields suddenly become fearless in the face of overwhelming foes. Vortex Missile – 3CP: Substantially soups up a Vortex Missile fired by a Deathstrike with hit re-rolls, a better chance of splash damage, and a chance to do extra damage to any survivors. Exists in a weird rating spot – Deathstrikes are still terrible even with this, but if you’ve taken one it potentially is worth saving this to go with it. I’m going to go with a D+

As well as the new Astra Militarum miniatures, we also got word of a new style of game for Warhammer 40,000. Boarding Actions has compact 500-point forces clashing in narrow corridors on board spaceships or perhaps within the confines of a key strategic base planetside. Tempestus Regiment>: The keyword, but Tempestus Scions flavor. You’re only going to benefit from this one if every unit with a variable keyword in the detachment has this. Even their special weapons platforms and Imperial Guard tanks aren’t as well armoured as some other forces’ equivalents, so you’ll have to keep an eye on damage if you want to succeed. Relic – Distraction Charges: When a model within 3″ scores a hit on overwatch, the unit that was hit halves their charges (rounding up). Regimental Doctrine – Heirloom Weapons: Add 6″ to the range of rapid-fire and heavy weapons with a base range of 24″ or more.

Fire From the Hip: Advance and shoot rapid-fire weapons at -1. As a worse version of Tallarn, it’s difficult to ever see this making it. C Many companies, such as Pig Iron Productions, Victoria Miniatures (whose Guard-flavoured‘Scrapper’s Bag of Bits’ product image you see above, or Anvil Industry also make troops that either focus on accurate historical miniatures, or ones that combine history with science fiction, making their models and conversion bits ideal for your Imperial Guard Conversions. If you want to diversify your forces, some companies offer a wider range of female model options, such as the excellent Bad Squiddo Games. Gunnery Experts: When you roll to determine the number of shots for a weapon on a VEHICLE, you can re-roll one of the dice. This is the VEHICLE half of Catachan, and obviously good with tanks. A Preliminary Bombardment – 2CP: Use before the first battle round begins. Roll a dice for each enemy unit on the battlefield, and on a 6 they suffer 1 mortal wound. The impact here is tiny for the cost, and this just isn’t worth it. D Cadian and Catachan can replicate each other’s main stuff to differing degrees, and your choice between them comes down to what parts you value more, with Catachan having the edge for infantry and Cadian leaning better for vehicle builds.

Resplendent in golden armour atop his cybernetic horse Konstantin, Lord Solar Leontus is effectively the new ‘big boss’ of the Imperial Guard.Some impressive miniatures and news of a new storyline and game mode for Warhammer 40,000. It does sound like things are going to be ramping up very soon for the factions fighting it out in the grimdark future and I could see this almost being the "End Times" affair for what we know as Warhammer 40,000. A good way to set up 10th Edition in spectacular fashion? According to the Warhammer Day preview stream, all the new Imerial Guardsman models will be on 28mm bases like the revamped Eldar line. Ursula was revealed mid-2022, long before the rest of the new Imperial Guard range showed up to join her.

Armageddon: Mount Up! –You can fire your weapons and embark in a transport if every model in the unit is within 3″ of the transport. Can be pretty cheeky, especially with Special Weapons Teams or Command Squad coming in off of Strategic Reserve. You can’t do this if you also disembarked earlier in the same turn. Codex Chaos Space Marines turned up just as June turned into July, and Chaos Daemons straddled August and September.Relic – Relic of Lost Cadia: Once per battle you can activate this at the start of the turn, and re-roll hits and wounds of 1 for CADIAN units within 12″ of the bearer. Against CHAOS, they instead re-roll all failed hits and wounds.

Shield of Flesh – 1CP: When your opponent shoots at an INFANTRY unit within 3″ of a Bullgryn unit that’s closer to them, they get -1 to hit. It’s a little hard to set up and there aren’t a tonne of things this is worth it on, but since good lists exist that use both Bullgryn and full Scion squads (the place this would be valuable) it’s probably only a matter of time till someone combines them. B As per previous faction army sets, like the Leagues of Votann and Chaos Knights before them, we’d expect to see a fair bit more detailed info on the constituent models and the new codex coming from GW over the coming weeks.

Which 40k codexes are out now?

Few Competitive Units: Unfortunately, this faction is pretty overcosted right now. There are a few dead units in the book that are wildly overcosted looking at you Baneblades, but most things are probably about 5-10% overcosted right now, resulting in some lists that often feel just out of reach of some of the upper tiers. Given GW announced 9th edition a few monthsinto the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the rollout was always going to be problematic. As the title fighters for the new edition, Codex: Necrons and Codex: Space Marines were released before Christmas 2020, along with the Codex Supplements for the Blood Angels, Deathwatch, and Space Wolves. Furious Charge – 1CP: After charging with an OGRYN unit, roll for each of your models within 1″ of the enemy and deal a MW on a 4+. Not a bad boost, and could be helpful to get the ball rolling if you’re sending your Bullgryn into something very tough or numerous, but can be a little challenging to set up with their large bases. C+ Possibly the best female Warhammer 40k model ever, Lord Castellan Ursula Creed is a named character HQ unit – daughter and heir to beloved Imperial Guard leader Ursarkar E. Creed. A recent Rogal Dorn Battle Tank rules preview also revealed the Guard are getting a new Turret Weapon rule that’ll allow its tanks to fire their main, turret-based guns at faraway targets even if there are enemy units fighting them in melee.
