Description

Despite these dangers, many recent expeditions to explore the fortress and plunder its wonders or even finally gain control of its immense power have been attempted. Among those individuals currently on Precipice seeking their own destinies within the fortress are such notables as the Rogue Trader Janus Draik, the Navigator Agent Espern Locarno, the Ecclesiarchy Priest Taddeus the Purifier, the Aeldari Ranger Amallyn Shadowguide, the Kroot mercenary Dahyak Grekh, the ancient Man of Iron UR-025, the Chaos Lord Obsidius Mallex and the Ork Freebooter Skarburn Zapdakka. A Lair of the Beast sheet that includes board set up details, rules, an event table and victory conditions. On top of all of that, there are new hostiles for your explorers to defeat in the form of Plague Marines and Poxwalkers. The Guardian Drones have a unique action, taken when they are hidden from explorers, which allows them to release Hover Drones. While they may look small and cute, they make the job of defeating the Guardian Drones much harder. Five intrepid adventurers join the pool of available characters, each bursting with personality – even the servitor, somehow, and he’s had his personality surgically removed. Together, they form the cadre of Rogue Trader Neyam Shai Murad.

Some of the other Cultists are equipped with heavier weaponry, including grenade launchers and heavy stubbers, to make you pay dearly for every inch you advance into their demesne. Each of these explorers offers fresh new ways to play the game. Rogue Trader Murad, for instance, is a gunslinger with paired ‘negotiating’ pistols that unleash a deadly fusillade of shots with unerring accuracy. This would mean that the actual weapons forged in ancient times by the Old Ones informed the subsequent myth of the Aeldari War in Heaven. Its massive remains were flung from orbit onto the surface of Cadia as an artificial meteor, its kinetic impact killing most of Cadia's remaining defenders and at last allowing the Eye of Terror to swallow the world. The geothermal stress caused by the fortress' impact ultimately caused Cadia to rip itself apart. The great Craftworld Aeldari Farseer Eldrad Ulthran boarded the fortress, attempting to remove the taint of Chaos and return the fortress to Aeldari control. As the fortress had been possessed by a portion of the mind of the Chaos God Slaanesh, Eldrad's body was destroyed, but his mind remained trapped within the construct. As if the ground disappearing beneath your explorers’ feet wasn’t bad enough, there is another new threat to your explorers – the Guardian Drones. We’ve already seen the awesome new models , but what can they do in the game? Well, they are armed with a selection of weapons that make them deadly at every range. Hostiles in grey plastic: Obsidius Mallex, Chaos Lord; 2 Chaos Space Marines of the Servants of the Abyss; 4 Chaos Beastmen; 4 Ur-Ghuls; 4 Negavolt Cultists; 2 Rogue Psykers; 4 Spindle Drones and 14 Traitor Guardsmen. [2] Though the identity of the builders of these technical marvels remains a mystery, it has been suggested by certain Imperial savants that they were constructed by the Old Ones or the Aeldari for use in their ancient war with the Necrons. Indeed they are obliquely mentioned in Aeldari Mythology as the "Talismans of Vaul," objects of great fear and revulsion.

Reaching the fortress' location requires a small and highly maneuverable spacecraft. Located close to the fortress is a small void station known as Precipice, created from the hulls of ruined starships and inhabited by a ragtag population of explorers and scavengers from across the galaxy that consists of individuals drawn from many different starfaring races. An uneasy truce endures aboard Precipice, which is enforced by a small cadre of powerful and influential starship captains looking to maintain stability on the station to pursue their own interests. If these incredible miniatures look familiar to you, it may be because they were first seen in the tie-in game Warhammer 40,000: Combat Arena. They’ve finished their journey to Precipice, and now they’re ready to scour the taint of Chaos with extreme prejudice. Cultist Firebrands are absolutely deadly at mid-range, and they also inflame the zeal of nearby Cultist hostiles. Their bodies are swollen with infernal power… so let’s just say you don’t want to be standing close to one when they’re killed… The word “hero” is banded around a lot in the 41st Millennium, but if you’re explorers managed to stop all of that then they are definitely heroes! To quell the Seethe, you must overcome the Dark Vortices and to find them, you’re going to need some help. Fortunately, there’s a Zoat on Precipice who seems to know its way around. We’ve already seen the model for the Archivist, now let’s see how it can help you on your quest. Trust

Prologue mission "Light in the Dark" including exclusive artefact card (Blessed Aquila) - White Dwarf December 2018 My local warhammer store recently got two boxes in their shipment, not of the manager's request. Sometimes there are just items that he is sent and told to shelf, but can have a little flexibility on local trends and favorites (eg Blood Bowl is popular around here so we have a big facing of it compared to other stores). He said he was unaware of a reprint and can't find anything on more expansions etc. During the Gothic War, Abaddon was influenced by the crone Moriana, a former confidante of the Emperor Himself whose attempt to resurrect His physical form after the Horus Heresy had led her into damnation -- and who may have been a disguise of the C'tan known as the Deceiver -- to hunt down a pair of ancient alien artefacts. These devices, known as the Hand of Darkness and the Eye of Night, were present in the Gothic Sector and were capable of re-activating the massive xenos battle stations, bringing them under the Despoiler's control.

As Mallex and the Chaos Cultists erect vile fanes to the Dark Gods, he exerts more control over the fortress itself. The world-shattering weaponry that has lain dormant for aeons now stirs, and Precipice is in the line of fire. The explorers must stop them before Mallex threatens the stability and balance of the entire region – and perhaps even the Imperium itself. However, due to the Zoat’s Withering Cynicism, it’s also very easy to lose trust – things such as the Archivist taking wounds or even being three hexes away from your explorers can cause it to become distrustful. The Quest to Quell the Seethe is a perilous adventure and you’re going to want the full trust of the Archivist when you come to take on the final test of the Shardcell. The Primaris Psyker Aradia is able to use her precognitive abilities to make other players more effective. Her unique action, Psychic Boost, will help your team succeed on crucial actions. Mind over matter and all that. Usually, we’d just suggest going and killing the Guardian Drone before it has an opportunity to spawn any Hover Drones, but with 18 wounds, that’s not going to be straightforward! But the galaxy is a vast and lonely place. For every sector abuzz with life, there are countless more that are dead zones. Even as wars reach into every corner of the galaxy, great swathes still lie silent, untouched and empty. Rules for using the Ambull and Borewyrm infestations in games of Warhammer 40,000 are also included. Teamwork has never been more important, now that you’ll have to face down powerful new enemies. These new explorers offer additional opportunities to work together and enhance the entire team, including the original adventurers. Deadly Threats
