About this deal

Yes! We have completed many Koi pond lining installations in the past (even with some Koi farms) using a box weld liner. Using a bespoke liner in a formal shaped pond provides the perfect habitat for Koi and other larger fish varieties because the whole area of the pond has a greater depth compared to a natural pond which will get shallower near the edges.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t choose a different colour for your pond liner. The main problem we found when looking at different colours is the availability of larger colours of pond liner. EPDM rubber, while offering the same high quality and resistances as Butyl rubber, is a popular budget friendly alternative that has a shorter expected working lifetime. The pond color should complement the colors in your landscape. For example, if you have a lot of green foliage around your pond, a green or blue pond blends in well with the surroundings. First, consider the natural surroundings of your pond and your garden space. The shape, materials, and color of your pond should reflect the overall style and theme of your landscape . It should also fit the tone of your home’s architecture. Choose a Color that Complements Your LandscapeBrown and gray are perfect choices to help ponds blend in with natural surroundings. A water feature made of stone appears more natural with gray or tan armor paint. These are both great options to boost the appeal of a natural water feature. Vibrant and Bold Shades There was also a theory that the break down of the pond liners could potentially affect the health of your fish and other aquatic life due “free radicals” being released during the degrading of the plastic liner. According to Michigan State University , pond dye has no negative effect on emergent or floating plants. So, you can cultivate water lilies in your pond with confidence. What Does Pond Dye Do For A Pond? If your pond liner priorities are physical strength and plasticity, then flexible polypropylene (fPP) is definitely worth considering. As the name suggests, fPP liners are very innately flexible without the need for additives like plasticizers. As a result, they can be easily molded and formed to fit your pond’s tightest corners and recesses. fPP geomembranes can also conform tightly to even extremely irregular surfaces, giving them good gripping power against pond slopes and rough terrain. Liners made from fPP can take a lot of strain from different angles and stretch without breaking or deforming, making them fairly resistant to tears, scratches, and punctures. They even remain pliable until -50°C, making them more than suitable for ponds in temperate climates.

For example, the best color for koi pond use is usually dark. This helps show off their vibrant colors to the best effect. If you’re looking to change the colour of your pond liner, then best method is to completely drain your pond and re-cover with a new liner in the pond liner colour of your choice – this will be much healthier for your fish and other pond life. Final thoughts about coloured pond liners If you’re planning on keeping Koi in your pond, the darker breed varieties such as Ghost Koi will be much easier to see when using a lighter colour pond liner.

What type of plants and fish do you plan to put in your pond? Different plants and fish thrive in different types of water, and the color of the pond impacts their health and growth. Predators at ground level, such as cats, will notice the strange color and since the fish are more hidden, they’ll lose interest faster and be less inclined to stalk the pond. Excellent article! It’s really helped me in narrowing down my choice of liner for my first pond. Thank you. Reply Gordon Low Products Ltd. is a family run firm that started out over 50 years ago on the Isle-of-Wight. Alternatively, you can also look for other types of flexible pond liners that are more widely available, such as EPDM or butyl. These are also strong, flexible and resistant to temperature and UV damage, but they can be a little more expensive than fPP (but since it’s so hard to find, I guess it doesn’t matter too much!). Thank you for this information. I have a pond liner that I’ve been using for about 3 years with no problems. I’m looking to buy another pond liner and attaching them together but because I bought it so long ago, I don’t remember what type it is. It is very flexible, wasn’t too expensive, seems to be durable, and, probably most telling, it has been welded together at the factory. Any suggestion as to what type of liner this is?

Work out the size of the pond you want to achieve first, then dig it, and measure the maximum length, the maximum width, and the maximum depth. A deep blue pond color creates a serene, tranquil atmosphere and blends in well with natural surroundings. Blue is also the color of the sky and serves as a natural choice for the color of a pool or a pond. We’re so happy that you enjoyed the article and found it helpful! You can use pond paint, pond armor, or pond dyes to achieve your look. It depends on whether your pond is already established. The choice of colors with pond armor is a little more restricted, but it means you don’t have to keep adding dye to your pond. If you’re considering pond dyes, then we always advise buying from a reputable brand such as TruBlue, which is safe for swimming and wildlife . Popular Choice Among Koi Enthusiasts: Blue pond liners are widely favored by koi fish hobbyists due to their ability to enhance fish visibility, reduce algae growth, and maintain cooler water temperatures. These factors contribute to a healthier and more visually appealing koi pond.To get the best out of your bespoke liner, we would recommend that all pond or lake liners are installed with a good quality pond underlay to provide protection from stones and roots. We supply AquaSHIELD protective matting in both 200gsm and 275gsm. Given that they’re made from the same plastic, it’s no surprise that linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and HDPE liners have several things in common. These liner types share the same fairly inexpensive price, and both have to be seamed from multiple sheets in the field by professionals, rather than custom-fabricated in the factory. Like HDPE, LLDPE is weldable, nontoxic to fish, and functions well in in typical pondwater temperatures, though it’s also commonly used in liners that are intended to contain water contaminated with waste or hazardous chemicals. Fish waste alone will make it naturally dark, so choosing a lighter coloured pond liner such as white, blue or even green pond liner will end up making it look dirty if your do not perform regular pond maintenance. Raised Pond with Blue Pond Liner The best pond liner is one that is easy to lay, suits your budget, lasts a lifetime, and doesn’t leak. How do I choose which pond liner will be the best for me? Red and orange are bold choices for ponds and add a pop of color to a neutral landscape, adding a touch of drama. If you’re looking for a standout color, red is it. Neutral and Calming Colors
