It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do." A Short Biography of Pelé I really liked this book because in this series you really learn a lot about a person in a little bit of time. This specif book was no exception, it also contains lots of pictures, diagrams, and fun facts. The second reason I like this book is because he was a great soccer player the whole time, he won three-world soccer cup and has been nominator of best player three times in the row. God blasted a player like that. I cried a few times too, not for sadness but at the incredible beauty that many moments in his life brought to Pelé and anyone privileged to witness them: the 1958 Brazil World Cup victory, the first retirement where he took the ball midfield and saluted the crowd. Marco is used to me trying to read through tears, whether happy ones or sad ones. And I know Pelé would have understood, since he described himself as "a very sentimental person. More than that, I am a cry-baby."

Pelé's final game was an exhibition match between his two teams, the New York cosmos and Santos, in 1977. He played for both sides! The Pele Albums - Selections from Public and Private Collections Celebrating The Soccer Career of Pele (2 Volume Set in a Slipcase)We lived when Pele lived... that should be enough..... this book adds nothing to this. Many of us have been fortunate enough to see him play... that truly is enough. New to StoryShots? Related Book Summaries Pele was one of Brazil’s most famous footballers and is considered one of the greatest players of all time. He was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in October 1940 in Tres Coracoes, Brazil. At 16, he made his professional debut with the legendary Santos Football Club.

Even people who don't know football have heard of Brazil's, if not the world's best player. How did he become a global superstar? Covering all of his playing days with Santos, New York Cosmos and Brazil, through to his subsequent careers as a politician, international sporting ambassador and cultural icon. Pelé remains one of the most beloved and iconic sports figures in history, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time. His legacy lives on through his academy and his incredible feats on the pitch. He has written multiple books about his life and continues to be an inspiration to young footballers around the world. Final Summary and Review Of course Pelé went along for the ride. He was 17. What else was he going to do? What else did he know? As he matured into adulthood, he would discover that his life had already been built around him: a ceaseless treadmill of football and football and things around the football and more football. He would learn that he and he alone was the show (when he was injured for a while in 1962, Santos attendances dropped by 50%). And once the show moved on, he was essentially pensioned off and left to fend for himself. Pele's life is what movies are made about. Pele was born in a poor family and the book starts with his childhood and how he worked hard and got to where the world started to know him and how he became a legend. He would stay with them for nearly two decades, becoming their all-time leading goalscorer and most successful player ever. It was during his time with Santos that Pele really began to make a name for himself, showing his incredible talents on the pitch and becoming an icon of the game. He won numerous awards and titles with Santos, including the Campeonato Paulista seven times and the prestigious Copa Libertadores twice. StoryShot #2: Pele’s Early Professional Career The last quarter of the book is on his post football career, including becoming a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, the Sports Minister, a Commentator, a Movie Star and philanthropic work. There are also elements on his personal life. Pele’s performance in the World Cup was nothing short of remarkable. He helped Brazil win their first-ever World Cup title in 1958, and then went on to win the tournament twice more, in 1962 and 1970. It’s interesting to see what doesn’t make the finished cut. The women in Pelé’s life – his family, his first wife, an unspecified number of children – are barely mentioned. Money is barely mentioned: for more than a decade Pelé entrusted his financial affairs to his agent, Pepe Gordo, who invested a significant part of Pelé’s fortune in a number of failed businesses. By the late 1960s, Pelé was broke and forced to ask his club, Santos, to bail him out on unfavourable terms. This traumatic episode had a defining impact on Pelé, who in some respect has spent the rest of his life chasing down the riches he believes are his due. This book aside from his childhood mostly lists his achievements in the Football world and his success. Even though I enjoyed reading about the legend, I do wish that there were some personal moments that I got to read about. Overall, it is very inspiring and definitely a must-read.
