About this deal

I would caution anyone before using CapStar or Nitenpyram on their cats. I cannot say for sure that the seizure was caused by the medication, since he has had one before, but I can say that the medication definitely had some kind of effect on all three cats, that appeared to be some kind of effect on their mental state. It is certainly not normal for a cat to stay in the exact same spot (that is not a normal "spot") for over two days. The frequency of serious signs, including neurologic signs and death, was greater in animals under 2 pounds of body weight, less than 8 weeks of age, and/or reported to be in poor body condition. In some instances, birth defects and fetal/neonatal loss were reported after treatment of pregnant and/or lactating animals. Unfortunately no medication is 100% safe, it is always possible for cats to react to a medication, and if you give enough doses to enough cats, eventually someone will have a bad reaction. Consequently, you will find horror stories online about every flea med, so it's hard to know what is safe. It's also hard to know for sure how a reaction is related to the medication... it's possible that your cats were reacting to the nitenpyram, but also possible that your cats' reaction had something to do with "Puppy Butts" generic formulation? Capstar is different from lots of other flea products on the market for cats and dogs in that it works in a daily, oral dose rather than a monthly treatment. Does Capstar work? The simple answer is yes, Capstar is proven to be fast and effective at killing adult fleas in dogs and cats in as little as 15 minutes. But it does not prevent further flea problems and does not target flea eggs or larvae, so you won’t get rid of an infestation that’s already started. It does also come with a price tag, but it is a simple and effective short-term solution to flea problems, and no trip to the vet is necessary!

However, it is advisable to avoid giving more than one tablet in a day. You should also keep monitoring your pet after administering the formula. It may also make them thirsty so it would be advisable to give them plenty of water. If your pet has fleas, even after using Capstar, it’s important to give your home and any bedding your pet uses a thorough clean. Vacuum underneath and behind furniture, wash any bedding on a 60-degree cycle, as well as use a home treatment designed to kill fleas in the environment. Additionally, dogs with allergies, pregnant females, and dogs taking other medications, such as antidepressants, antihistamines, or sedatives, should avoid taking Capstar or only take it under strict veterinary supervision.

Capstar® Storage

This short-acting medication should stop working within 24 hours, although effects can be longer in pets with liver or kidney disease. A study was conducted in 2003 to consider the effectiveness of Nitenpyram when administered as a single dose. It was noted that the ingredient was able to kill 100% of adult fleas within a day.

Giving Capstar to your dog too frequently can have adverse effects on their health. The medication contains an active ingredient, Nitenpyram, which can cause side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy if given in excess. Moreover, overuse of Capstar can lead to the development of flea resistance to the medication. You may be wondering, what is the recommended frequency for administering Capstar to a dog? The answer largely depends on your dog's exposure to fleas and their level of infestation. CAPSTAR Tablets do not have an effect on fleas in the pet's environment. You may need to treat more than one time because immature fleas in and around the home will continue to develop into adults that can reinfest your pet. But with it effecting three cats, all in nearly the same way, I have little doubt that there is something wrong with the medication. Oddly enough, Courage is the largest and oldest of the three, and seems to have had the worst reaction. Your dog or cat may start scratching itself after receiving Capstar ®. This is typically because of the pet’s reaction to the fleas, not the medication itself. Scratching is usually temporary.Even where they seem to work, the results do not last for long. I also came across a few where you were supposed to administer them to your dog continuously for several months. If you are like me and have a hectic schedule, you will be looking for something that works instantly. A single, female adult flea can lay as many as 2,000 eggs during her lifetime. These eggs develop into larvae, then pupae, and finally into adults within three weeks. Capstar ® stops this cycle by killing adult fleas before they can lay eggs. Because it does not treat the immature stages of fleas, additional doses of Capstar ® and other preventative flea medications may be necessary to eliminate infestations. Capstar® Directions Store the tablets at room temperature between 59°F and 77°F (15°C and 25°C ), protected from light. About AdvantageNobody wants fleas to befriend their pet. Once they have moved in, they can hang around for months, biting your pet to feed and laying eggs to continue their lifecycle. What's more fleas don't just bite your furry friend, they bite ...

We didn't go to the vet today, but did call and make an appointment for tomorrow. Since he is acting mostly normal, the vet didn't think it was an emergency, and he was booked solid today. Capstar can be taken with or without food and concealed in a treat for those fussy eaters! Place the tablet directly into your pet’s mouth or hide it in food. If you hide it in food, watch closely to make sure your pet swallows the tablet.

Fleas begin to die approximately 30 minutes after dosing, and the effects will last up to 24-48 hours. A single female flea may produce up to 2,000 eggs over her lifetime. Eggs hatch and can develop into adults within only three weeks. Adult female fleas feed by ingesting blood from your pet and subsequently lay eggs, which drop off your pet's coat. Within days, larvae hatch from the eggs and live undetected in your pet's surroundings, such as the carpet, bedding and other protected areas. Flea larvae spin a cocoon, and, when appropriately stimulated, a young adult flea emerges and jumps onto your pet to continue the life cycle. When these new fleas are seen on your pet, treat with CAPSTAR Tablets.
