so, because of that, this review can be summed up as “loved the idea, but not the execution.” buuuut, my interest in the plot outweighs my annoyance with the writing. so i will most likely continue the series at some point. Persistent Misfortune: The cursed individual may experience a prolonged period of misfortune, encountering a series of unfortunate events that seem to be beyond ordinary circumstances. This could include financial difficulties, relationship problems, or a string of physical ailments.I’m currently reading the third book as I’m writing this review and I can see this series making it to the list of my favorite fantasy reads. The tale of the Curse of Shadows and Thorns lives on as a testament to the indomitable power of the human spirit to overcome darkness through acts of love and redemption. It reminds us that while shadows may cloud our lives, the choice to embrace empathy, forgiveness, and courage can lead us toward a path of healing and renewal. however, while i loved the story, the writing drove me bonkers. the prose itself isnt terrible, but the structure is just… odd. like missing sentences, random jumps between chapters/events, characters showing up in a scene when its never mentioned that they are present, information presented in a way that assumes the reader is already aware of it, and just inconsistent pacing.

Again, throughout the book i was asking myself over and over again, why this feels so rushed. Why the author didn’t take the time to write more details or more scenes and chapters about certain things. I don’t really know how to say it, because the pace of the main plot was fine, but some things were too fast, while others were to slow. Some worldbuilding elements were thrown in without much explanations, which already bothered me in book one. I think this would have been even bigger and better with more length and details! Because the idea and the plot are so good! AND THE CHARACTERS! 💛 The Enchanted Realm: The Garden of Elysia At the heart of the legend lies the Garden of Elysia—a realm of unparalleled beauty and harmony. The world building I think needs the most help, this is supposed to have Vikings in it and I’m not getting that at all from this. You can make the characters use Norse terms, braid their hair and carry hatchets into battle, but it doesn’t make them Vikings. Sorry 🤷‍♀️. I don’t buy it. i just think booktok has become so saturated with individuals trying to promote their own books that i can no longer rely on it to find new reading material. because it seems like the quality of stories has decreased and anything gets published these days if a video has enough views. :/The ending was surprising! I love it when books suprise me like this and have a lot it things that you didn’t see coming. I was just very disappointed after all this build up tension, and all these cute encounters, to find the spice scene being like all other spice scenes in all the other spicy books.
