About this deal

The jogwheels are also great though if you are a scratch DJ there are some other controllers on the market that can offer better jogs. The faders and knobs are all top-notch. All the pads and buttons are also superb and I especially like the move to rubberized Play and Cue buttons. This is typically caused by not properly (or safely) ejecting the drive from the computer. It is highly recommended to always safely eject any media device prior to using on Prime Series media players. If your installed HDD is still not recognized in standalone mode after safety ejecting, power off the PRIME 4 and restart. The original Prime 4 was an attractive DJ controller but it was also divisive. Some found the heavy use of blue and green excessive and to a certain degree I’m inclined to agree. Excellent dj controller, the amount if stuff you can do with this is amazing. Regular updates of the firmware too which keeps adding more to it. Dominating the rest of the mixer is the large 10-inch screen. Since it is a standout feature I’ll cover it in more detail in a dedicated section below.

This may happen when Windows (and therefore Engine Prime) detects an external drive as an internal drive. This can happen if an internal SATA drive is placed in a 3rd party USB enclosure. We do not support these drives and recommend you do not use them, as Windows is unable to safely eject the drives.

Specifications

Speaking of FX at the top of each channel is two buttons for assigning FX from the two FX banks (I’ll cover these later in the review). The Denon Prime 4’s magnificent display combined with the Denon ENGINE PRIME keeps the DJ mixing solely on the controller. This is one area that Denon has well and truly delivered. There is an extensive range of connection options available. Now, onto one of the biggest features of the Prime 4+ and likely what catches most people’s eyes when looking at DJ controllers. The screen on the Denon Prime 4 Plus is sublime. It’s a monstrous 10-inch screen that is hi-res and ultra-vivid. You can also adjust the viewing angle to your preference as well.

You can control the level and 2 band EQ of the zone direct from the unit. If playing an internal playlist isn’t for you you can also send channel 4’s external source to the Zone. We can also see this feature being useful in smaller venues, the zone could output to the seating area, bar area or even the toilets and hallways. It’s a brand new concept and something we would love to see on more hardware in the future! The Zone output is handled by balanced XLR outputs. Storage and Media What options do I have to connect external drives and other storage devices to the PRIME 4? These studio-quality built-in effects have dedicated selector and parameter controls on the Prime 4 that are fluid to operate. Credit: Denon DJ Speaking of effects, both the Prime 4 and DDJ-1000SRT have onboard effects just like most club mixers. What’s great about both controllers is that they can also be used with external sources hooked up to the controllers (eg the aforementioned turntables or media players). With either of these controllers, most DJs won’t have the want or need for a separate four-channel mixer anymore. Without a complete breakdown of the controller’s features, DJs wouldn’t know how the controller will benefit them. Let’s take a closer look at what the Denon Prime 4 has to offer. Build & Design Credit: Denon DJ

I was adamant I wanted the Pioneer RX2 and with a last minute change of heart I decided upon the Denon Prime 4. The utility viewing mode gives a DJ loads of settings to adjust, like changing quantize note length, to tweak and tune their mixing style. Dual Microphone Control Credit: Denon DJTo add your own custom DJ or brand logo simply createa .PNG file, name it "logo.png" and place it into the Engine Library directory on your USB/SD media device. We recommenda .PNG with the dimensions of 600 x 600 pixels.

When we say that the Denon DJ Prime 4 can do it all, we don’t think that’s exaggerating. The controller even has a “Censor” mode that will edit out any profanity in songs. The Denon Prime 4 is a stand-alone professional DJ controller with a built-in processing unit, AKA the ENGINE PRIME. The Denon DJ Prime 4 + Standalone DJ Controller builds on the success and comprehensive design of the original Prime 4, adding wireless Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity as well as expanding the dynamic FX options to create powerful mixes and transitions. Not only that but the Prime 4 Plus comes with a fresh new look and a larger jog wheel than its predecessor for improved tactile control. The touchscreen on the Prime 4 is a completely different story. The first difference you will notice is its large size. The screen is the size of a tablet, which is a great thing when so much information is displayed on the screen. It also uses more modern touchscreen technology that anyone familiar with using a smartphone will feel comfortable using. The Prime 4 touchscreen allows for gestures like swiping which makes the touchscreen feel like an integral part of the user experience, unlike the touchscreen on the XDJ-XZ which feels like an addition to the unit, not a necessity. Standalone functionality DJ controllers are useful for DJs mixing strictly digitally, as most support USB computer connectivity. They are lightweight and portable, which is great forYes, similar to the SC5000 and X1800, the PRIME 4 features a network port for sharing data between devices. Use a standard Cat5e cable to connect this to the hub on an additional Prime device to share media between devices. Note: It is not possible to Sync or Instant double to an SC5000/M over the network. If you care about Virtual DJ, the integration is fantastic, with everything you need to know on the huge screen in real-time also. Serato is also perfect, but I have not used it quite as much. Another difference between the jogwheels on these two units is that the XDJ-XZ jogwheel is mechanical while the Prime 4 has a capacitive jogwheel. The mechanical XDJ-XZ jogwheel is the same as what you would find on the club-standard, and much more expensive, CDJ-2000 Nexus 2. So if you are looking for jogwheels that mimic what you may find in many of the larger clubs in the world, the XDJ-XZ delivers at a fraction of the price. If you are more comfortable using the type of jogwheels found on the majority of modern controllers the Prime 4 may be the way you want to go. Effects The big draw for both of these pieces of hardware is their standalone functionality. Both units can be used to play your digital files without the need of a computer. Both companies have had standalone units in the past, but this is Denon DJ’s first unit that can play standalone on four channels and Pioneer DJ’s first standalone unit with a four-channel mixer. A simple press of a button will match the song’s key to the master. Utilizing Prime’s musical key features will ramp up and refine your mixing style. XLR Zone Output Credit: Denon DJ
