As Advance Reader Copies of A River Enchanted are beginning to make their way into the world, I thought I should drop a note here about why this novel is adult, and where you can find the content warnings. Some of you might know me from my young adult (YA) novels and may be curious as to why I’m now releasing a fantasy novel for adults. You’ll find a (fairly) succinct answer below, along with a link for the content guide. I absolutely loved the setting and time period that Ross evoked in this romance. I felt like I was maybe in the 1940s war era and yet the added element of gods battling each other was so unique.

Zeb stared at her for a long, hard minute. He was a middle-aged man with thinning blond hair, pale blue eyes, and a cleft in his chin. Sometimes she thought he could read minds, and it made her uneasy.Going easy on me, then?” He arched a brow. “That’s surprising. We’re supposed to duel to the death.”

But she was reconsidering now as her tea went cold. If he wrote an article about missing soldiers, she might be inclined to read it.Beautifully written and deeply emotional, Divine Rivals is a story of resilience and love, crafted with Ross’s bewitching storytelling. Real characters, swept into a magical war, this is the kind of a tale that gets under your skin and straight to your heart. Truly romantic and atmospheric, this book will leave you hungry for the next installment.” - Valia Lind, USA Today bestselling author of The Scarlet Rose As Advance Reader Copies of A River Enchanted are beginning to make their way into the world, I thought I should drop a note here about why this novel is adult, and where you can find the content warnings. I admit that I was eager to read Divine Rivals because I saw so many parallels with Fourth Wing (dragons being the big exception!).

I am so blown away by Rebecca Ross' storytelling that anything she writes just leaves me speechless and Divine Rivals is no different. Although i do think this book is my favorite by far. Reading about Iris and Roman left me speechless and i kept wanting to shake each of them as they spoke to each other and i found myself wishing i had a physical arc of this so i can annotate it properly. This idyllic town in Western Borough is where Dacre, a defeated Underling god, was laid to sleep in a grave. And there he slept for two hundred and thirty-four years until one day, at harvest time, he unexpectedly woke and rose, sifting through the soil and burning with fury. Divine Rivals captivated readers with its breathtaking story, cozy and enchanting magical vibel, and heart-warming romance.

Truly the only complaint I have about this is that the sequel isn't out for ages and I need to know how it ends. This combines all my favorite trope of all time - the 'shop around the corner'/'you've got mail'/'she loves me', with a fantasy war epic. I was the target audience and I adored it. It's somehow both so dark and so light and fluffy all at once. Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Violence & Scariness in your kid's entertainment guide. Get started Close This trilogy is excellent. It not only features an incredible slow-burn forbidden romance but also blends political intrigues, the chaos of wartime and high-stakes.

Her boss was quiet for a beat. “Over the past few months, I’ve published eleven articles of Kitt’s. I’ve published ten of yours, Winnow.” For a book about war and grief, it’s surprisingly comfortable. I think a lot of it is due to the writing, but also just how the general plot was set up. Both Iris and Kitt experience a lot of death and destruction, and they’re affected by the war in different ways. But they remain hopeful and carve out some joy for themselves in the dark times. Iris knew what came next. She had been working at the diner, washing dishes with muted, broken dreams. She hadn’t once thought the essay she submitted to the Gazette’s annual competition would amount to anything, until she returned home to find a letter from Zeb with her name on it. It was an offer to work at the paper, with the tantalizing promise of columnist if she continued to prove herself exceptional. It’s not a crime to feel joy, even when things seem hopeless. Iris, look at me. You deserve all the happiness in the world. And I intend to see that you have it.”Divine Rivals is a two-book duet so be prepared for it to end on quite the cliffhanger and be ready to read Ruthless Vows next which sounds SO good! Expelled into the middle of a mystical war, magical typewriters in tow, can their bond withstand the fight for the fate of mankind and, most importantly, love? I must confess I have a soft spot for romance books that incorporate epistolary elements. There’s something so captivating about letters, and My Roommate is a Vampire truly reflects that to perfection. She has written multiple highly acclaimed duologies, including LETTERS OF ENCHANTMENT, ELEMENTS OF CADENCE, and THE QUEEN’S RISING as well as two standalone novels: DREAMS LIE BENEATH and SISTERS OF SWORD & SONG.
