About this deal

It is a strong season, full of solid and entertaining stories. Jon Pertwee’s incarnation is at the centre in what would prove to be his penultimate year in the role. There are plenty of colourful creatures and of course the Daleks. What more could you want? Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 10 (c) Bedwyr Gullidge Bonus Features Season 1 has just all 7 of Marco polo, 4 has 10 missing, 5 has 4 and 6 has 5. Unless any ,missing eps do turn up….. I just think there needs to be a serious re-engagement with fans and customers again – as I say, HMV are already way ahead on the ball with the Season 12 batch re-releases, that’s exactly what should be happening with every other previous set as far as I’m concerned. Well last year there were only 2 and season 2 being announced in mid August so I think it’s very over ambitious that there could be 3 sets this year but I could be wrong

Yes it is quiet but for all we know we might only be getting 2 sets this year anyway with the 60th Specials Steelbook/Blu-ray/DVD in December and maybe a surprise animation release for November. Another new feature filled with poignant moments is ‘ Looking for Lennie‘. Host Toby Hadoke ventures out to uncover more details of Lennie Mayne who directed ‘ The Three Doctors‘ for Season 10. From revealing the details of his tragic demise, Hadoke uncovers a lot of previously unknown information. The conclusion is hugely emotional and it feels only right that this much loved man has received the celebration that his life richly deserved.

RARE CONVENTION FOOTAGE: Including Australian interviews with Peter Davison and Janet Fielding shot during production of this season The Five Doctors, though often said to be a part of season 20, was therefore not a part of season 20 in any production or broadcast sense. Indeed, it's doubtful that any contemporary viewer thought of it as a part of the season, since it came almost eight months after the closing scene of The King's Demons. Instead, it had much greater production and broadcast proximity to season 21, and is often considered a standalone special. The episode was also considerably longer than typical episodes of the time, and was introduced during the Children in Need telethon by the host, Terry Wogan. Unfortunately everybody gets offended far too easily nowadays (even if they haven’t watched the thing they are offended by) and with cancel culture having a big impact, broadcasters, especially the BBC, are playing it safe. In Region B, this meant the set was released with Series 1-4 mastered at 1080p24, the 2009 Specials mastered at 1080i60, and Series 5-7 mastered at 1080i50. In Region A, the previously released series were remastered, resulting in the entire set being presented at 1080p24.

The Complete Fifth Series was also released as a Steelbook (BBCBD0130), with three exclusive art cards. A second Steelbook (BBCBD0487) was released in 2020 as a 4 disc set.

For the release of the Series 1-7 box-set later the same year, 2|entertain (now branded BBC Worldwide) produced a single master for the first four series; opting for the same 1080p24 format they had recently adopted for Region A releases. Well I agree on Ian Levine. I get the impression that he is not someone you would not want to know. We are all grateful for him saving episodes like The Daleks. So his place like Phil Morris in Doctor Who history is assured. As for Gary Russell, he is one of the good guys. I don’t agree with him on eighties Who and what happened, but I respect him. I remember in the early eighties getting his fanzine Shada, one of the better ones of the period and discovering he was the same guy who appeared in The Phoenix and the carpet and of course Famous Five. I believe that Gary along with the great RTD, is the same age as me . You could say we are the second generation of fans who were born the same year as the series , but were too young to remember the first episode. Unlike Levine. I really don’t care what they do with the animations as long as they make them. Of course you can still criticize them, Web of Fear episode three is truly awful. But the idea that Gary’s animations is somehow disrespectful to older fans is just silly and sad . Well it would be nice If someone has been secretly working on Daleks master plan animation for the last couple of years. Ready for the anniversary. But as that isn’t going to happen. I will be happy with The Smugglers animation ( a favorite of ON THE ROAD The trip of a lifetime – a European road trip with Peter Davison, Janet Fielding and Sarah Sutton

Well DWM is released next Thursday. So they can announce and maybe preview as well, depending on how long before it is released.

STUDIO FOOTAGE Rare behind-the-scenes material from Vengeance On Varos, The Two Doctors, Timelash and Revelation Of The Daleks Meanwhile, the anniversary special, which was originally envisaged as a part of season 21, was something quite separate from any season. Although it used a portion of the original money involved in the season 20 commission, it received a separate commission from Head of Series David Reid on 15 July 1982. Indeed, it only received this commission because JN-T had been able to secure co-production money from the main Australian network. Moreover, The Five Doctors, as the production was eventually called, didn't begin principal photography until early March 1983 — just when season 20 was wrapping transmission on television. [1]

Galaxy 4 was the first animated reconstruction to be made available on Blu-ray in the United States. Also, what about those animations – you would think we would have newson those if they are due out in November – that’s only 4 and a bit months away now I made the point then as now that it makes sense for episodes to turn up with private collectors. It’s happened before and it will happen again. I don't know. I can't see them animating _every_other_missing_episode_ and then never animating the very last two missing episodes. Why get so close, but not finish off the job for the fans?

Doctor Who: Other Seasons

HMV stores get a limited amount of the limited ed sets, some are reserved by shoppers and that might be why you dont see them. In my local they only get three sets. Not many for a town of 70000, plus nearby big city. So to be clear, it’s not about rushing the hardworking people on these sets, and I don’t agree with Levine’s take on the silence. For me it’s the not knowing at all what’s going on. It’s only thanks to @Gordon in the comments above regarding Mark Ayers that we finally have some kind of granule of a hint that it may be the actual workload proving greater than maybe initially intended towards a release date with regards to Peter Davison and co.
