Overall I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it to other people who love queer fantasy and dragons!

One of the things that really stood out to me was the queernorm world and the world building It was exceptional, but I have to admit that it did take a bit of effort to get into it. The first 20% of the book is pretty intense, with a lot of world-building and narration, but trust me when I say it's worth it. Once I got lost in the immersive writing style, I couldn't put the book down.

Long ago, humans betrayed dragons, stealing their magic and banishing them to a dying world. Centuries later, their descendants worship dragons as gods. But the “gods” remember, and they do not forgive. This was a book I didn’t know I NEEDED to read! It drew me in and I was captivated almost right away. The characters were written with care and had great development. The ending was a twist I did not see coming and it had me wishing for the second book immediately. I feel happy. I feel sad. I feel like it shouldn’t be over. So when thief Arcady casts a spell to steal a powerful artefact and accidentally traps Everen – the last male dragon – in the human world, the consequences are deadly.

As if the mythology of the Dragon world and the side stories weren't enough, the author throws in a heist, one of my absolute favourite things in any book. Thank you, L R Lam, for making this reader so happy. A queernorm world with incredible worldbuilding and a great story to dive into. I loved the characters, their dynamics and how they evolved over the course of the book, including the growing romantic attraction between the two main characters, and of course, the dragons! Furthermore, the book has an incredibly interesting narration and uses a mix of first, second and third person, which is something I personally really love, especially in fantasy books and I found it was very well executed in this book. This is a story of an unlikely forced bond, both have secrets, both parties have their ulterior motives however they find themselves coming together in ways they do not expect.

I was invested in what was going on and loved the idea of dragons returning. It was so well written and did a great job in telling the story. I can't wait to read more in this trilogy and from the author. L. R. Lam wrote this so well and did a great job in creating a unique world. We’re thrilled to reveal the cover of bestselling author L.R. Lam’s new epic fantasy, Dragonfall, coming in May 2023 from DAW / Astra. Long-banished dragons, revered as gods, return to the mortal realm in the first book of this riveting trilogy. I was surprised to see how big of a part the romance played in the book. Like I knew there would be a romance since I'd read the blurb, but the romance seemed to take up a pretty large chunk of the plot. So readers who are looking for less romance in their epic fantasy might not like it. I actually loved the romance. The build-up was torturously slow, but it made the payoff and the angst even better. Since this is the first book of a trilogy, I expect the romance was focused to build up the rest of the books on it. Dragonfall is a soaring good time from start to finish, and has plenty for fantasy fans to love: an intriguing world, forbidden romance, unique magic, and of course, as many dragons as your heart could possibly desire.”—Tara Sim, author of The City of Dusk

A genderfluid thief and a dragon might fall in love despite their best efforts not to. #sexydragonsbook (because #sexydragons brings up things that cannot be unseen).
