Conclusion the models x23+ are total failed for Synology. Most of the devices at home are using 1GB network, so it gives you zero improvement and need to spend more money for additional card. USELESS! CPU has only 2 real core instead of 4 real cores on the previous model, a little bit faster on single thread but it is not a home PC, again BIG FAILED! If I need to expand I will go at the beginning with bigger model with 8 disks or so, to eSATA is USELESS too. Ni IGP, so advantage of the CPU when you use it for video decoding. Conclusion, get the old model and wait next models of Synology 426+ or 926+ Wow, just what we need a comparison of the top Synology drives for home or SMB use. Thanks for this. I’m in the process of getting a new NAS. This video was very helpful to understand what to look for. Thanks!

Watched you video from begin to end! Loved the deep dive into DSM, since I am looking into buying a new Synology. Keep up your amazing videos! Hitachi Vantara Unveils Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform One, Signifying a New Hybrid Cloud Approach to Data Storage If you have been looking at Synology or a more cost-effective, low-price and highly power-efficient NAS drive in 2022/2023, then there is a very good chance that you have been wondering about the release of the DS423, as the current affordable ‘standard series’ offering of the DS218 has been available now for well over FOUR YEARS! Well, I am pleased to share that I have been informed that Synology has plans to release the newest entry into their standard class tier with this new 4-Bay NAS in the last quarter of 2022 (or possibly the start of 2023). This little snippet of information (alongside mention of other new desktop NAS’, such as the DS223j, DS223+, DS723+ and DS923+), details which units are going to form the bulk of the brand’s home-prosumer-SMB diskstation portfolio. The DS2xx and DS4xx series has always been highly desirable as the entry point for most first-time Synology NAS small business users and although is a solution that arrives with hardware that could arguably be called ‘economical’, it is worth also remembering that it will almost certainly arrive with support of DSM 7 – so you are going to be looking at an affordably jumping off point into a complete hardware+software solution. Although the details we have on the DS423 are incredibly thin on the ground at the time of writing, this information DOES come from a very trustworthy source that I am sorry to say I cannot share. I am sure this will result in many having doubts about the reliability of this information (I would feel the same), but you are just going to have to trust me on this and/or wait out the rest of 2022 as this all plays out. Let’s discuss the D423 a little further. Update 12/09/22 – Small Update on the DS223 and DS423 indicates Release Relatively Soon

Supports up to 30 IP cameras on a single Synology server with Synology Surveillance Station. Up to 10,000 cameras can be managed per deployment by adding more recording servers with Surveillance Station CMS. Surveillance Station includes 2 free licenses. Connecting more cameras and devices requires additional licenses. The hardware architecture of the DS423+ and DS923+ clearly have two very different target audiences in mind. The DS423+ has more of a home and multimedia feel about it, while the DS923+ feels substantially more like a business solution. This is reflected in numerous areas such as the distinct differences in CPU, memory specifications, and potential for growth. Even if you were to take into account the affordability of the DS423+, it has to be said that in the majority of hardware available, the DS923+ is significantly more powerful and scalable in practically every way. Here is a brief summary of the key hardware highlights of either system, side-by-side: Synology DS423+ vs DS923+ NAS Hardware Comparison applies to files indexed or hosted by Synology Drive. For file access through other standard protocols, refer to the File Services section above) I will also be maxing out the M . 2 slots with the highest expandability **STRICTLY for Caching only**I was surprised at how highly you two spoke of the arm processors in the 223j. My first nas was a 220j and it was terribly underwhelming in performance. Maybe it was the 512MB of Ram, but it absolutely failed miserably when I tried running multiple applications especially when I was uploading photos and videos from my phone to photo station would make the system completely unusable for anything else as it tried to process the files and index them. I tolerated it for a few months then upgraded to the DS920+ and I LOVE it. It does everything I ask of it with ease. You are too kind. The move from Intel for the 923+ means it is still borne for me. The 920+ is simply fantastic and great value for money. The 423+ is a bet meh as well. And for more money than the 920+. Fortunately I am not likely in the market for another NAS for a good while. I hope Synology sales reflect this and they realise the consumer market should be given a decent option without having to buy into am enterprise level system.

I guess I never new about the trans-coding with integrated video for streaming directly from the NAS and that helped a lot. if you are still going around in circles and need direct consultation, we have just started providing one-hour consultations via zoom. You can find out more about them via the link below: With a maximum raw storage capacity of 72 terabytes, the DS423+ is ideal for teams of professionals, small businesses looking to step into the world of centralized storage, or to serve as an edge node in distributed deployments.Meanwhile, "the DS423+ offers exceptional value to users with limited storage requirements," said Synology product manager Anya Lin. "It boasts 21% faster photo indexing over its predecessor, among other performance improvements, and continues to offer the comprehensive and robust features that our customers have come to rely on." I have a much older DS1019+ with 5 bays and 2 NVME slots. A couple of things are common. If you are only going to use the NVME as cache then 2x256GB NVME is big enough. I use Raid 1 on my cache. I bought 2 1TB NVME but the Synology never seems to need more than 256GB. I can have different size drives in my DS1019+ but the amount of storage is roughly equal to 4 smallest drives of the 5. In the case in the video it would be the 3 smallest drives of the 4. I like the storage pool idea that mine doesn’t have, I would probably use it because of my big 1TB NVME flashes. Being able to transcode is handy but I have a Ryzen 9 CPU and an Intel I9 with an older GTX1080. The internal AMD graphics seem to encode just a hair faster than the GTX1080. It helps to read and write to fast SSDs. I like synology software. I have their router two and the software looks and feels similar. Both the DS923+ and DS423+ are constructed of plastic desktop compact chassis, thereby reducing power consumption, noise and heat generated

Regarding data concerning tests with RAM expansion, all memory slots are installed with the maximum capacity of supported RAM. Powered by the versatile Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, DS423+ offers comprehensive solutions that can protect and manage business data, facilitate collaboration on documents, provide remote file access, and serve as the hub for an IP camera-based surveillance system, all within a compact desktop format. the number of devices that can be connected at the same time when the recommended number of stored files is reached)Extend the standard 3-year hardware warranty 6 of your DS423+ with 2 more years of Synology-certified support and premium services to help you recover faster in the event of disaster. 7 But everyone can still see everyone’s folder I’d love to have it so that you can easily isolate nested folders Synology has been slowly upgrading its various NAS offerings over the last several months. In November, it launched the DS923+, a similar but ultimately different four-bay NAS solution. While the DS923+ is equipped with an AMD Ryzen R1600, the new DS423+ is powered by an Intel Celeron J4125 that features up to 2.7 GHz turbo performance compared to the 3.1 GHz turbo of the DS923+. The DS923+ also has significantly higher memory capacity (32GB versus 6 GB) and supports PCIe expansion. That said, the DS423+ is more expensive and not everyone is going to need that higher performance.
