About this deal

Inside the box you get two speaker units, a small remote control, a collection of power and audio leads and the User Manual. Oh, and I almost forgot, the handy cleaning cloth! They looked good in the bedroom and the sound was excellent, especially considering the price and the size of the speaker (small). The bass reflex ports have been moved to the front to allow for more flexible positioning without sacrificing any bass response. The specifications are where I do a double take, then a triple, and a fourth before I realize what I’m seeing on paper is real. How can you possibly put so many features into a speaker at this price point, box it and deliver it? The value proposition, the functionality, and as we will find out in the sound portion of our review is all there. Build and Aesthetic Impressions The speakers are well built with study cabinets and the right weight to sit well on the surface. Like the R1700BT, the casing is made from MDF wood, which can minimize resonance than plastic material.

With impressive sound and excellent features at budget prices, there’s no question why you might be looking at the Edifier R1700BT and R1850DB.Located at the rear of the primary unit you’ll find both Treble and Bass control. These work as intended and allow for fine-tuning. A handy feature especially if you want to use these for mixing due to the slightly unbalanced default setting. The Edifier R1700BT can deliver impressive audio considering the compact size and excellent price point. The speakers are not wireless between each other. You do need to attach the included cable to make them work together but the main speaker will work independently if not connected to the control unit. If you press the volume button, it toggles between inputs such as Bluetooth, RCA, optical and coaxial. The Edifier R1850DB comes with a 4-inch woofer that manages low and most midrange frequencies. Also, it uses a 0.75-inch tweeter to handle the high ends. This is a standard configuration with many studio monitors.

There is plenty of competition out there in the speaker market. But to cut through the hype you need to be aware of some key differences between the various options. Understanding what to expect can help inform your decision on what speakers are right for you. Their size is amazing, the volumes they reach are incredible. The remote is good. The ergonomics are nice. When you look at the price, it really isn’t that much more expensive and I’ve seen it on sale multiple times. There are plenty of alternatives available if you are looking for small monitors. Depending on your needs, some of these options may be a better choice. Edifier R1700BT Review Being that we’ve already reviewed R1850DB’s younger sibling, the R1800BT, we suggest taking a closer look at that article for a more in-depth analysis of the unit’s sound. Sign up to receive It has three knobs on the right-hand speaker to control the volume, bass, and treble. Thankfully, these are conveniently sunken into the cabinet for a clean appearance. Good quality materials and cabinet. Multiple inputs and tone controls make this a solid bookshelf speaker.
