Michael is a little child with a round face and rosy cheeks, with brown wide eyes that "glisten", and short blond hair. He wears a blue T-shirt, with dark grey shorts. From there, the Marionette was able to make the animatronic parts free themselves from the salvaged fusion, forcing the Miscreation to tear itself apart. Afton screams as his form dissipates, and the broken body of trash fell into the water. Afton, alongside the Marionette and the other animatronic parts, sank into the bottom of the lake never to be seen again. Larson lived, as the Stitchwraith (now solely possessed by Jake) used its energy to burn away at the detective's wound, removing the last remains of Afton's infection. The serial killer has finally been put down, for good. It reminded me of Stephen King’s IT both in tale as well as ambience, in that ten years later the characters are coming together to review what happened when they were children. I was tense virtually the entire way with, as the details of what happened are gradually introduced. Not all of the personalities feel expanded, yet the ones we invest the most time with are rather well created. Every one of the characters feel genuine, as if they’re colleagues. Even the animatronics are defined in such as means as to make them appear as if they have some personality themselves, and make you question whether they’re in fact alive or not.

Breaking in, they explore the abandoned restaurant and find that the animatronic mascot characters - Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie and Chica, which were built by Charlie's father - have been left behind. Charlie and John go to a library to research the history of Fredbear's Family Diner, and find an old newspaper article about Sammy's kidnapping with a photograph of Dave, who the newspaper identifies as the diner's co-owner.

Marla is determined and strong-willed, with a big personality that can lighten the mood of those around her. She is extremely loyal to those she loves, and is one of the friends that made sure to stay in touch with Charlie after everyone moved away. His body had never been found. How could they not have secretly hoped he might come home, no matter how impossible they knew it was?” They rushed to the doorway to meet her just as she walked in. Arty seemed confused, his mouth opened slightly and his brow furrowed. John watched for a steady moment, then turned away decisively, facing across the table with a grave expression. He didn’t speak until Arty met his gaze. “That’s not Charlie.” Golden Freddy begins speaking, though not aloud, and Carlton realizes that Golden Freddy is the spirit of his childhood friend, Michael Brooks, one of William Afton's previous victims. As Charlie enters the room to rescue Carlton, he points out Golden Freddy in the corner, and informs her that he was Michael all along. At the end of the novel, an injured John very vaguely told the childhood crew about Charlie's death. He went to the cemetery where Charlie had taken him a long time ago, and followed the same path she took. In his head, he began thinking about how Charlie told him that she remembered him confessing his love for her, scolding himself. Approaching two small, plain tombstones, he suddenly felt as though he was being watched. He turned around and saw a girl, who is assumed to be Charlie, standing beneath a tree a few yards away, extending her hand towards him. John's mind went numb, and he walked towards the woman under the tree.

He reunites with his childhood friends Jessica, Charlotte, and Carlton, and they decide to revisit the place where Michael died: Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a family restaurant Charlie's father once owned, now an incomplete shopping mall has been built in the restaurant's place, but upon further investigation the friends discover the restaurant is still standing, and the mall has been built around it. That night, Charlie, Jessica, John, and Carlton return to the restaurant, accompanied by their friends Lamar, Marla, and her 11-year-old brother Jason. They had come; Freddy’s was gone, and so was the shrine she had kept in her thoughts, where she could still find Michael playing where she last saw him.” Afton is described as being larger around the time that the serial killings occurred, but he eventually lost that weight while in his Dave Miller persona.

They discover the still-functioning control panel which makes the robots move, and Charlie finds a fourth robot - Foxy the Pirate Fox - which cuts her arm with his hook. The next morning, haunted by recent events, Charlie tells John that before moving to Hurricane her father owned another restaurant called Fredbear's Family Diner, which featured two performing robots, yellow versions of Freddy Fazbear and Bonnie the Bunny. During this time, Arthur was able to pester the hospital enough to be granted temporary custody of William to take him to the distribution center. When they arrived, he burst into chunks of flesh and gristle, seemingly releasing the tormenting specter, as evidenced by tiny footsteps coming from the man. William lives from this as well, anchoring on Andrew without him knowing. William was also able to manipulate Andrew's anger, allowing it to have deadly effects on whatever it touched. Andrew then uses his rage to infect the toys, costumes, and animatronics. This includes Fetch, Ella, Foxy, Plushtrap Chaser, Ralpho, and Spring Bonnie. In The Fourth Closet, once he escaped from the Spring Bonnie suit, William began to regain his sanity, which in turn made him feel that he doesn’t need to be inconspicuous due to his state of condition. He is miserable, commanding and impatient, yet he still remains to be theatrical, even when he is in pain. Considering the fact that his organic, human body is full of mechanical parts, William seemingly has a tolerance for pain, as he continues to commit scientific experiments, seeking to replicate immortality in the form of a substance called remnant. The door now hung open slightly, but Charlie didn’t disturb it. It hadn’t opened for her; it had only given way to time.”

Jessica is then later encountered by Baby Crawlers. Jessica manages to fight them off, by tossing them into the ball pit. Then Jessica, Marla, and the three kids were able to make an escape. In 1995, John attended the launch of a scholarship dedicated to his school friend Michael Brooks, who went missing ten years earlier. One by one, the four animatronics approach him and drag their dying murderer into the darkness of the pizzeria. Jessica later follows the fake Charlie, who reveals herself to be Circus Baby and is captured by her and brought to Circus Baby's Pizza. She forces Jessica to perform surgery on a weak William Afton who has escaped the Spring Bonnie suit. Jessica completes the surgery and is thrown into a room where the recently captured kids are being held.The whole town was like this, a mix of old and new, familiar and not. The things that had changed seemed out of place, and the things that had remained the same made Charlie feel out of place.” Marla first appears in Chapter 2, she is at Carlton's house, along with Jessica and Carlton. By the time John arrives, they are excited that he came. The group then starts to talk about Charlie, and how she's different lately. When they reach the exit, Funtime Foxy is near, so Jessica decides to distract it and go for her. She tells the other four to go out. Jessica takes the device out, and the fox starts chasing her through the pizzeria. After Jessica manages to defeat Funtime Foxy and the Baby Crawlers. Marla, Jessica and the three kids leave. The day after, Marla, Jessica, John, and Clay are in the hospital, near Carlton's side as he is recovering from his near-death injury. As they search for a way out, the four robots come to life and pursue them through the restaurant. William reveals that the robots are possessed by the vengeful ghosts of his victims and boasts that they will hunt down and kill any intruders. The group tries to hide in a party room, but all four robots corner them. A year later, twisted versions of the Freddy's animatronics are committing a series of murders, which have as their mission to catch Charlie. At one point, one of them (Twisted Freddy) manages to catch the girl and her friends do not know where they are. Then John proposes to ask for help to the animatronics of the restaurant, since he thinks that they were not discarded at all; effectively, Clay Burke reveals that he kept them in his basement, since he neither dared to disarm them nor leave them free, however, they had not shown signs of life since then.

When they go to Clay's house and to his basement, they discover the animatronics and the Golden Freddy costume, totally immobile. John starts talking to them, then they realize that the animatronics turned their heads in the direction of the young man and that Golden Freddy's suit had given off two white lights in the empty basins of the suit; showing that Michael and the rest of the children still possessed the robots. When John mentions the name of William Afton, the animatronics go mad and flee violently into the woods, including Golden Freddy that disappears. He kept Charlie's old childhood robot's, Theodore's, still-functioning head on his nightstand. His apartment was barely furnished, and was quite messy. He spent most of his time laying on his bed, theorizing about reasons Charlie could still be alive. He was entirely unwilling to see Charlie, and the time after her "death" was spent alone. He's also one of Charlie's childhood friends, he was lured away by William in a yellow bear suit, along with 4 other children, and was never seen again. Later, Marla and Carlton go to Circus Baby's Pizza, when they come in, they see children which turn on to be the Baby Crawlers playing on the monkey bars.
