Living in rural France is the idyllic dream of many and France certainly has much to offer in its villages and hamlets. Most foreigners who buy property in France are attracted to villages, small towns and countryside. At the beginning of the 20th century, GeorgesAuguste Escoffier, known as the King of Chefs and Chef of Kings, adapted haute cuisine to be more modern with his publication of Le Guide Culinaire in 1903. Many French chefs became known overseas among which Paul Bocuse, Michel Guérard —who built the foundation of Nouvelle Cuisine, the Troisgros brothers, Alain Chapel, George Blanc, Alain Ducasse, Guy Savoy, and Joël Robuchon. Finally, there is this peasant heritage that characterizes French society. “Most French people come from the peasantry,” says Mossuz-Lavau. Farmers would hide money away, in cash, somewhere in the house, and would not talk about it so that nobody would steal it. 4. Visit Museums It soon became clear that customers wanted to try the baguettes, the cheese, the goodies on offer in the shop, seduced by the smell of Stef’s espresso coffee.

A typical part of French lifestyle is shopping at the farmers market throughout the week for fresh produce, rather than the supermarket. It’s a great way to eat fresh and local food that has been grown using more natural practices. It helps you learn to eat seasonally, rather than be fooled that all produce can be available year around, like the grocery store can have you believing. It’s a lot of fun to get to know your local farmers and community, learn from them, and form relationships. It makes the experience of shopping like more of a pleasurable experience, rather than a chore to get over and done with. Plus, we always try out new foods when we visit, which expands our taste buds and our cooking repertoire. A small selection of freshly cooked dishes to collect exclusively every Thursday, chilled, easily reheated for a French Living experience at home! Because of this, the farmers market tends to be a convenient way to incorporate more community involvement and socialization into your daily life, a big part of the French lifestyle. Fill your home with inspired music. For techies or retro audiophiles, have your turntable or playlists ready for any occasion. From leisurely jazz tunes when you return from work and wish to read the daily news to beautiful Bach in the morning as you get ready for work, set up your music station, turn off the television and forget about time, even if for a moment. Lunch time breaks in France are a sacred thing. A survey found that half of the French spend over 45 minutes eating lunch each day, and it’s over 30 minutes for three-quarters of them. This is by far the biggest percentage for the extended break of all 14 countries surveyed.

French Lifestyle

This need to prioritize beauty needs doesn’t come so much from a place of being vain as it does from the need to pamper oneself. Whether it’s getting a facial, taking a long bath, or receiving a massage, the French know that it’s important to pamper yourself for lasting wellness and self-care. Whether it’s a walk in the morning or a stroll after dinner, embrace old-fashioned things like a walk around the neighborhood or local park instead of heading straight to the sofa or staying cooped up indoors. Walking is an integral part of daily French life, and adopting this habit is one of the simplest ways we can start incorporating the French lifestyle into our daily routines. In memory of fellow independent businessman, Stephane and Louise created a plaque, and positioned it on the wall where Richard would stand selling his tailor-made holidays. Did you know that working on Sunday is even forbidden by the law? Indeed, the French labor code sets out the principle of a Sunday rest according to which the weekly rest must be given on Sunday. That is why on Sunday in France, most stores are closed even if the Macron Law now allows large shops in specially-designated tourist zones in Paris to open on Sundays. 14. Adopt The “Laissez Faire”Approach To Wellness

The French lifestyle is all about the art of living life to the fullest. Living life with pleasure and enjoyment is always a priority, whether that’s through social gatherings, excellent food, or beautiful surroundings. As a French lifestyle blog, the French lifestyle and culture are topics that are discussed quite a bit. French Lifestyle Housing options range from city apartments to countryside chateaux. It’s not easy to find a place before you arrive, as landlords prefer to meet tenants first. By far the most common type of accommodation in French cities are apartments. In rural areas, cottages are usually up for sale rather than being available to rent. Although full of character, city apartments tend to be old and small with poor insulation. In an unfurnished rental property, the kitchen may be bare, with no appliances or white goods. A simple hole in the wall opened up the shop to the next door unit, and the café suddenly felt like a café!Non, ce n’est pas possible”, “cela risque d’être compliqué”, “c’est hors de question”, “je ne sais pas”, the French have a variety of ways to say no. And sometimes, in France, you might feel like living in a society where the default answer to almost every question is “non”. Why is that?

Sunday in France is sacred. The French Sunday is a dedicated day for doing absolutely nothing except spending time with family. The French are known for their long Sunday lunches “déjeuners dominicaux” that stretch into the afternoons. It’s the perfect day to take the time to sleep, eat, to visit family and relatives. Sunday in France is a time for everyone to just “être” (to be). This means that happiness lies in living humbly and being modest even when experiencing a resounding success. This proverb implies that there is a cost to shining in the world or being successful; think of emotions it can arise in others like jealousy or envy —which are normal human emotions.

Perfect for Francophiles, ‘bon viveurs’ or any one whoappreciatesthe beautiful thingsin lifeand who isseeking a little inspiration. Oh how we loved the 3 hour dinners full of multiple courses while we were in France. While 3 hour dinners aren’t always doable, it is pretty easy to course out a dinner. This is probably one of our favorite aspects of French lifestyle.

My French Living Blog is a lifestyle blog for francophiles, bon viveurs and anyone who appreciates the good things in life! French Living Blog Think of France and what comes to mind? Wide roads, great-value restaurants, a gentle climate and landscape, rural lifestyle, great pride in national identity and traditions both cultural and social. Be sincere, yet kind. While everyone has days that you are simply grumpy for any list of reasons, taking it out on others is something you will most likely regret. And even if you have to deliver news that isn’t favorable, there is always a way to do so with kindness. Being conscious of how we treat people and our delivery will almost always be appreciated, and even if it is taken for granted, at least we can go home at night and feel good about the energy we put out into the world. Stephane is the French half of this partnership, a Frenchman from the Mediterranean island of Corsica, and Louise is a Nottingham girl. Accept your flaws —which make you charming and unconventionally beautiful— rather than trying to fix them.

House & Home

The same goes for art galleries or antique stores. While the act of collecting art and antiques definitely occurs, the French truly enjoy the cultural experience of viewing and learning the story behind the art and antiques too. Extended families often maintain close links so grandparents hold the voice of authority and youngsters toe the line for fear of disapprobation.
