About this deal

Price comparisons are based on the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price ("MSRP") or Original Selling Price. Actual sales may not have occurred at this price. Peter: Not too much to add, I had a lot of high expectations leading up to the arrival of the Rebel V2--and for once I wasn’t disappointed. Fit is true-to-size, upper is great looking and very comfortable, lacing took ZERO tweaking and the shoe is light AF. My only concern was that running in them would be a letdown. Jamie : FuelCell truly lives up to the hype in this shoe. After over 200 miles, it still feels as soft as when I took it out of the box. Running on roads, crushed limestone, and even some trails, this shoe can handle it all. It’s soft enough for those easy runs, springy for some uptempo runs, and overall just super light. I tend to have some issues when shoes are too soft, so the added responsiveness from the FuelCell is just perfect. For a non-plated shoe, the Rebel v2 has become one of my new favorites in my running shoe rotation.

New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 Multiple Tester Review

In terms of feel, the midsole feels much closer to the RC and TC than anything else in the current NB line. I would like to add that the lateral fin that was so iconic in Rebel 1, has been pared down quite a bit and is less noticeable now when running. Cheng: It's hard to add on to what others have already described regarding the midsole. Yes, it's nearly magical - a great companion not just for higher tempo workouts, but also easy runs. What I'd like to focus on is it's distinction from the RC Elite's. Bryan: The blown rubber placed extensively in the forefoot and strategically in the rear has kept the weight of the Rebel 2 down, whilst providing for ample traction. However, as mentioned by the team above, durability is a concern with some of the outsole triangle grip patterns showing wear on the lateral side only after 25km / 15 miles on concrete pavements, bitumen and some fine sandy gravel mix. In saying that, the relatively generous layer of outsole rubber gives some hope, but only time will confirm its durability. Each one of our New Balance FuelCell running shoes in the range offers subtly distinct performance characteristics, allowing you to select a model that perfectly matches your running style and goals. For a comfortable, well-cushioned ride – look no further than the New Balance rebel v2 (FuelCell), up for training runs and intense runs alike. Every piece has its iterations. Adding to the collection came with careful consideration, if it wasn’t adding to the racing experience then it had no place. Step forward the FuelCell SC Elite v3, it complements the midsole’s super springy rebounds with the dynamic energy return and stability of our Energy Arc system and a full-length carbon plate. Every aspect of its design is developed to deliver PB-busting race day speed. Meanwhile, the New Balance FuelCell Propel v3 offers exceptional day-to-day performance courtesy of lightweight uppers. If you’re after a versatile all-purpose runner that’s allows you to experience the high-rebound performance of FuellCell technology, then this is the collection for you.The entire forefoot is covered with soft, flexible rubber. The forefoot rubber extends down into the midfoot on the lateral side. Jacob: Fuel Cell is the name of the game here and I’m a big fan—it’s a single-slab of soft, flexible, bouncy, and energetic foam. This deployment of FuelCell minds me of the Propel v1 in it’s dramatically soft and flexible feel. There is a balanced level of cushion and foam in the Rebel v2 where it’s not tippy at the heel or sink-in-forever feeling like the TC so there is more stability and direct connection with the ground on toe-off. The forefoot has some firmness. However, it is well-cushioned and not harsh. The FuelCell TC is also a better tempo trainer than the Rebel. The Rebel v2 now falls into the daily training category. Out of the box, the FuelCell Rebel v2's felt worn in and ready to go. They didn't feel used, they just felt comfortable. The generous toe-box space and flimsy flexible upper both help accomplish this immediate level of familiarity. Also, maybe it's just me, but no matter what running shoe I try on, I always expect them to be noticeably bouncy as I trot around my living room for the first time. Most of the time, there's a gap between reality and expectations—whether those expectations are realistic or not. This time, however, the FuelCell Rebel v2 aligned exactly with what was in my mind. I must be honest, when images of the Rebel v2 first leaked online last year, I wasn’t impressed. However, after seeing it in hand and in marketing material, I’m now a big fan of the design.

DPT/Footwear Science: A (Foam is new, and taking something so soft and making it functional is neat to see with the mechannics of the shoe) David: "The midsole cushioning absorbs most of the ground feel, and the redesigned outsole takes care of the rest. I would feel comfortable taking these up to a half-marathon distance (or even farther) without any issues." We’ll probably recommend another rotational strategy when the updated (and hopefully more durable) Rebel 3 is released. But for now, we can think of the Fresh Foam 1080 V11 as a reliable muncher of long miles and such. Its upper is soft, and the midsole delivers a cushy ride. BEN: Really not much at all here. I love the shoe. If I had to stretch for something, I’d say that white isn’t my preferred color for a running shoe (the contrasting “goldenrod” yellow looks great – just pair it with something that doesn’t immediately look dirty). 🙂 Sam: I never tested the Rebel v1 fearing a firm overly prescriptive kind of ride. The Rebel v2 softens things up with a new TPU/EVA autoclaved blend (as in the RC Elite) which while not changing the foam characteristics ( of firmness and rebound) of the TC much dramatically lightens weight as my US9 comes in at 7.33 oz / 208g .THOMAS: I feel bad for the New Balance team, I know they are already working on the third version, maybe the fourth. I don’t know where they can go from here unless a new technology/foam comes out. This shoe is a banger. It is the best non-plated tempo/race shoe I have ever put on my feet. In short, the Rebel 2 has is, despite a name that indicates otherwise, a completely revamped shoe. Let’s get into the specifics of the various parts that make up the shoe. Fit and Upper
