About this deal

Despite the lower price, Canon's EOS R7 runs the X-T5 pretty close in spec terms, with a faster burst rate, decent video specs and a sensor only 7MP behind. Its autofocus is also very good in stills mode. The X-T5 offers a more analog shooting experience, a larger, higher-res viewfinder and our favorite rear screen arrangement for stills shooting. The Fujifilm also has access to a far more comprehensive system of lenses designed with APS-C in mind, which further enhances its credentials for enthusiast photographers.

Our standard bike demonstration assesses whether a camera's AF system can maintain focus on a rapidly approaching subject using a single focus point. At 15fps, the X-T5 easily aces this test with a hit rate close to 95%. Note: those images deemed 'soft' are only ever so slightly so.

With all this aside, the problem shouldn’t happen. But Fujifilm could’ve and should’ve dedicated their resources to other things instead of issuing a firmware that corrected this.

It includes a lot of the capabilities of the more expensive X-H2, such as the 40MP sensor, with a handful of omissions – primarily on the video side of things – that draw a sensible distinction between the two models. There'll undoubtedly be some people who would have preferred an X-H2 with dials, or who'll insist that only video features should have been removed, and that the X-T5 should include the ability to add a battery grip, but to us the differences are enough to create a meaningful distinction between models, allowing the X-T5 to have a lower price tag without treading on its big brother's toes.

Like the flip-out screen, Fujifilm’s basically saying if you want these features with the latest sensor, you’ll need to spend more on the X-H series and forgo those vintage dials. The X-T5’s dimensions are more in line with the X-T1 than any of the others, and it’s only half a millimeter taller. Weight-wise the X-T5 is 50g lighter than the X-T4, but 100g heavier than the X-T1 because of the newer stabilization systems inside. It certainly doesn't feel hefty in your hand, and I could see it being the perfect weight for street photography and travel. On the photography side, the specs are very similar to the X-H2, with the camera able to shoot 40MP images at up to 15fps using the mechanical shutter. A much smaller buffer and the use of SD cards means it can't shoot such long bursts as the X-H2, but the image quality it delivers is identical. The X-T5 has analogue top dials for shutter speed, ISO and exposure compensation. Image credit: Andy Westlake You might be wondering why you'd buy the Fujifilm X-T5 over the X-H2 – as they both share the same sensor and processor. What’s the difference? There's a major ergonomic difference between the two cameras, as the X-H2 has a mode dial while the X-T5 has a shutter dial.

As a general rule with my 5d4 I found I needed to double shutter speed versus 5d classic if I was going to zoom in and /or crop. So I shot at least 1/60 for a 30mm lens rather than 1/30. I also began to use 1/250 for people instead of 1/125.

Overview

OPPO's mid-range smartphone aims to provide a sophisticated camera system at an attractive price. Andy Westlake sees how it measures up. Connectivity options are much as we’d expect, with both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi included. You can connect the camera to your smartphone via the free Fujifilm Camera Remote app, and then copy images across for sharing on social media. You can also use your phone as either a simple remote shutter release via Bluetooth, or with a live view feed and extensive control over camera settings over Wi-Fi. One minor quirk with the X-T5 is that you can’t change the exposure mode from the app – instead it’s defined by how the camera’s control dials are set. Fujifilm X-T5 Video features Moving on, the X-T5 inherits the built-in stabilisation of the X-H2 and S, providing it with up to seven stops of compensation with any lens you attach. This is an improvement over the previous X-T4 and it’s great to have it in a lighter and slightly smaller body. Their straps are elegantly understated and feature exceptional quality. They offer several styles crafted from various leather materials. It’s worth noting that some of these straps made from the veg-tanned full grain or top grain may initially feel stiff but will eventually soften with use. Overall, they are a solid choice for camera straps.

But there’s more to it than spec. One of the reasons Fujifilm cameras are so beloved by their community is that they are pleasurable cameras to use. The X-T5 is a more attractive camera than anything made by Sony, with better ergonomics too. Plus, the selection of the best X-mount lenses is the finest you can get for any APS-C mirrorless system, blowing the meagre offerings for Canon and Nikon’s crop-sensor cameras out of the water. The Fujifilm X-T5 is quite simply a brilliant and charming camera, offering amazing value for money and providing a compelling argument to ditch full-frame entirely. Let’s dig into its features and put it to he test to find out why. Fujifilm X-T5: Features

Proven Focus With an Inelegant Interface

So while the burst speed on the X-T5 is the same as the X-H2, the actual burst depth becomes another differentiator. If you’re happy to shoot JPEG-only bursts, I don’t think you’ll find it an issue in practice, but RAW shooters will need to think about whether 20 frames at a time with pauses afterwards as they fully-flush will be sufficient. This is the best way to clean UV filters or lenses since they won’t leave behind any lint or dust.
