Overall, then, I am super impressed with the Char-Broil Gas2Coal 210 Hybrid BBQ. It offers the perfect mix of gas and coal. It's convenient and easy to light, just like gas, but you still get the flavour of cooking on charcoal. This makes it very difficult to fault.

This combo grill from Char Broil sits at the smaller end of the scale, offering 540 square inches of cooking space. It streamlines its charcoal and gas capabilities into just one grill, which is why it’s far smaller than size than other types of combo grill. Usually combo grills are listed as a combination between a charcoal and a gas grill. Not so with the Smoke Hollow. This unit is listed as a combination of an incredible FOUR types of BBQ: Propane, Charcoal, Smoker, and Infrared Searing Burner. It has a whopping 860 square inches of cooking space, which is incredible compared to almost any other grill or smoker we’ve seen. We have coal BBQs to suit all budgets and match all your picnic plans. Whatever your needs, you can find out more about our superb range, here: Master Touch Series: The master of culinary adventureThe Oklahoma Joe Combo is one of the highlights of the series, and manages to combine the best of smoking and grilling in one beautiful unit.

New for this year, the barbecue features an impressive amount of storage, which is compatible with Char-Broil’s Madetomatch range of shelves and storage units that keep everything from griddle pans and pizza stones neaty and safely stowed. At 120.9cm high and 54cm long, the Professional Pro S 3 is quite a large model - and you will need room outside to store it - it does come with wheels so it’s easy to position. We particularly like the way a gas canister – up to an ample 11kg - can be neatly housed underneath the barbecue - as opposed to the side. The side shelf can also be folded down after use and the barbecue comes with a cover to place over it to protect it. There’s also a handy display to tell you how full the gas bottle is, which means there are no excuses if you run out of juice mid garden party. The hooks for cutlery on the doors and integrated beer bottle opener on its body are also a nice touch. My other option would have been to partially dis-assemble the BBQ, and be more precise in fixing in the first place. My fault for not being meticulous and precise in the first place. The amount of features it offers considering its mid-range price is remarkable, making it one of the best budget combo grills out there today. Gas and charcoal is the number one priority here, but some models also add wood pellets as an added third fuel source. It’s fun to use and impressively versatile, but there are a few niggles. The unit gets – understandably - extremely hot, meaning the supplied forearm-length gloves are needed constantly whether you’re reaching into the cavity to flip food - the openings aren’t very wide – or more typically, opening and closing the air vents and door clasps. These are small, irritatingly fiddly (when wearing hefty gloves) and detract from an otherwise fantastic cooking experience.

Dual-fuel barbecues, also sometimes referred to as hybrid barbecues, have been on the market for a little while now, and it looks like they are starting to gain in popularity. They come in a couple of different forms and at a range of price points too. Portability is enhanced by its silicone clips and handle. We found we could move the barbecue safely while it was alight, by clipping the lid on and carefully lifting the whole thing by the handle. On the downside, it only has 24,000 BTUs of power, which doesn’t compare well to the other combo grills on this list. For a grill of this size in particular, it means that the overall heat distributed heat impact across the grill will be quite low. Char-Broil Gas and Charcoal Combo Grill DeluxeFirst, you need to fill the charcoal tray with a single layer of coals, then put both gas burners on their highest setting and close the lid. The Char Broil Gas2Coal 330 Hybrid Grill is a simple solution to the ultimate grilling question, Gas or Charcoal? With the Char Broil Gas2Coal 330 Hybrid Grill it is possible to enjoy both of those options. Wood pellet smokers and grills have grown in popularity over the past few years due to their ‘cleaner’ burning, and significant fuel savings in comparison to charcoal. If you don’t have access to this your grill could burn out, or you could be forced to replace it unsafely. The infrared burner is a great addition. While gas grills often have side burners, the one provided here is ceramic, which you often see with high-end infrared grill models. Ceramic is a great material for efficient heat distribution, which means you can heat food properly with less energy or heat leakage.
