I have had a bottle of Gin Mare on my shelf for six months now, because I find it too hard to drink neat and too difficult to mix in a gin and tonic. In Barcelona they serve it with 1724 Tonic, a mild tonic like the Q Tonic but a bit more herbal. It worked very well. Garnished with an olive and basil leaf. Put this together with a sprig of rosemary, Fever Tree tonic, a fresh slice of peach…or add light peach syrup, and you have yourself a delicious drink. Finally found this. I’ve been wanting to try it for years. On the nose it’s deep and heavy lemon and lime, fruit and peel, with the characteristic thyme and rosemary, and also sage, grape and juniper. It’s origins are set in a once-small fishing port of Vilanova i la Geltrú. Gin Mare is pot distilled in an old chapel. Though the signature botanical is the local Arbequina olive, it’s the citrus element of Gin Mare that is the most extraordinary. Made with Italian bergamot from Calabria and lemons from Capri, along with Gin Mare’s four principal botanicals – Arbequina olive from Spain, rosemary from Greece, thyme from Turkey, and Italian sweet basil – Gin Mare Capri brings the very essence of the Mediterranean and the island of Capri to life through its authentic fresh citrus flavour profile.

I found Gin Mare paired with 1724 tonic water in Norway and it was delicious! I was able to get 1724 in the states until the pandemic and then the supply chain issues seemed to disrupt the process. It’s still my favorite gin and I now use Q tonic water.

You either use connoisseurs Tonic or naturally Tonic from Fentimans or Refreshing light Indian Tonic, PeriodGin Mare will continue to be produced at MG Destilerías in Vilanova i la Geltrú, a fishing village between the Costa Brava and the Costa Dorada.
