Years ago I watched this film, maybe 38 years ago; my mother having told me the story of the little Skye terrier from Edinburgh, my mother having lived there for 6 years herself before she for married. So many gullible tourists had done this that Bobby’s nose began to acquire a certain bronzy patina and began to wear away. The statue had to be reconditioned. And apparently even that didn’t last long… This statue of Bobby sits at the corner of Edinburgh's Candlemaker Row and George IV Bridge, and is a Category A listed building Dan sepanjang baca novel klasik ini saya mewek, terharu krn ada seekor anjing begitu dalam kesetiaannya, loyalitasnya sepanjang hidup pada tuan yg memberinya makan, bahkan setelah tuannya telah lama berpulang. Bobby ini mengingatkan saya pada Hachiko. OMG, anjing-anjing ini benar-benar menghancurleburkan sisi lemah diri saya. For example, Macgregor suggests that this terrier’s loyalty did not necessarily involve sleeping out in all weathers.

Seolah kita bener-bener melihat peta sebelum trip menuju Edinburgh. Though Queen Victoria made these terriers fashionable and they turn up in pictures by Sir Edwin Landseer (painter of The Monarch of the Kennel, etc), they seem to have been replaced by other fashionable dogs these days. Bobby led his master’s funeral procession to the grave at Greyfriars Cemetery, and later, when he tried to stay at the graveside, he was sent away by the caretaker. The locals kept an eye on him and he was associated with a number of nearby households even as his fame spread. The Greyfriars Bobby legend is born Perhaps Bobby represents all dogs – their unquestioning loyalty and faithfulness, especially when food is involved. This is an odd aspect of the story – as Traill was benefiting so much from his association with a celebrity dog – yet he wouldn’t pay to save him. The Lord Provost’s gesture made Bobby even more famous, following media coverage. Most folk know the tale of Greyfriars Bobby, the faithful dog and his vigil by his master’s grave.
