About this deal

Jamie’s shattered innocence became entwined with the tattered remnants of her uncle’s fractured psyche in this convergence of fate. Fueled by a sense of redemption and responsibility, Doctor Loomis embarked on a path to heal the wounds of Yes. For a novelization, the author, the editor at the publisher, and a representative at the studio all work together on the book. Once the author gets the script, he or she writes the draft. The editor then reads the draft and suggests changes. The author makes the changes, and then the editor submits the draft to the studio rep who may suggest more changes. The process goes on like that until the studio rep and the editor approve the final manuscript. Just shelved. I finished the book in March of 2020, and the studio hadn’t released my name as the novelisation’s author when they decided to postpone the movie. So for over a year, I got to watch fans wildly theorize online about what was going to happen in Halloween Kills, but I knew. I was glad my name wasn’t released. That way, I didn’t have to deal with fans messaging me and asking questions about the script I couldn’t answer. But I had so much fun writing the book that it was a bummer not being able to talk about it for so long! I had a blast reading this novelization of the 2018 film. I enjoyed the way we, as readers, get somewhat of a view from The Shape's perspective. However, there's no internal dialog from Mr. Meyers, of course. I mean, we can assume that he has some sort of thought process, but to delve into that could be problematic, and I'm glad the author didn't attempt it.

When I write a novelisation, I try to capture the screenwriters’ interpretation of the characters, but it’s also my book, which means that ultimately the version of Michael you’re going to get is mine. I tried to distill over forty years’ worth of my experiences of Michael into the novel, while at the same time getting at what, to me is the essence of his character: the inhuman alienness of him. Writing scenes from his perspective is especially challenging since, in a very real way, he doesn’t have a perspective. He’s kind of like a shark on two legs, a dark force of a nature. Hopefully, readers will think I did a good job writing Michael’s scenes.

Since I haven't seen the film yet, I have no idea if the novelization follows closely to it. Most of the time, films can have reshoots and last minute changes that differ from the screenplays, which the novelizations are based on. For this book, author did a great job creating detailed descriptions, which made the story feel less of a "novelization" and more like a full-fledged horror novel. In the silence of that night, the Shape rested, its psychopathy temporarily quieted, but the slumber was transient, a mere intermission On the anniversary of his last killing spree, Michael sets his sights on his niece, Jamie Lloyd, who narrowly escaped his clutches the previous Halloween. Jamie, now a traumatized young girl with an insidious psychic connection to her murderous uncle, becomes the focal point of Michael's obsession. Together with the equally traumatized Dr. Sam Loomis, Jamie must navigate a treacherous path of survival while attempting to unravel the dark secrets that bind her to the malevolent force that stalks her every move. I loved it! The book is just like the movie with a few more things in the book that I'm hoping are in the deleted scenes when the movie comes out! At least I hope it will have deleted scenes! Although unconventional and deemed unacceptable by the medical community, Sam's theory whispered to him in the darkest recesses of his thoughts. It was the idea that when Jamie had touched Michael's arm just before his descent into the infernal pit, a fragment of Michael's malevolence had passed into her. It was an unorthodox hypothesis, required massive leaps in logic, and risked his medical license if spoken aloud. Yet, deep within his being, he believed there was more at work here than mere coincidence.

“HALLOWEEN” NOVELIZATION BACK IN PRINT FOR FIRST TIME IN 40

Michael's hand instinctively reached up to his face, only to find it bare, devoid of the mask that had become his shield, his symbol of terror. Jamie sensed his rising anger, a turbulent storm brewing within, or perhaps it was her own fury taking hold. It was getting harder to differentiate whose feelings Jamie was experiencing. Her? Or HIM? A month or so. Good thing I’m a fast writer! Plus, it helps to have a script to work from, since a good portion of story and dialogue already exist to build on. This book fits perfectly with the core themes of the Halloween series; tension, dread, horror, action – everything just works.

a distant memory when she reluctantly accompanied an exboyfriend to the theater to watch “The Exorcist.” The film’s I hear you, Dr. Loomis, I do. But look at what just happened. There are still people out there in this town that blame her, a little girl for what happened last year. How it got out that Michael Myers and Jamie are related, I don’t know, but if I find out who let that nugget of information out, I swear to god, I’ll stab them myself.” Massive Halloween fan. Like, “write a ridiculously convoluted fanfic character study on Laurie Strode” massive. Yeah, I’m that guy. So reading this leaves me a little conflicted.
