In 2012 and 2013, two augmented reality games were created, titled Book of Spells and Book of Potions respectively. These were both released for PlayStation 3 [29] and used the PlayStation Move controller as well as the Wonderbook accessory for the PlayStation Eye. The Wonderbook accessory was brought out in conjuncture with Book of Spells, allowing players to see an augmented reality version of real life books. Embark on a journey to piece together Voldemort’s past and discover Malfoy’s secrets as the Harry Potter story draws to its conclusion. Quidditch is a far more crushing disappointment, though. Instead of taking part in a proper match you’re merely expected to fly through a series of hoops until you eventually build up enough speed to catch the Golden Snitch. While these segments look and sound astonishing, they’re actually very lightweight in terms of gameplay. While it’s true that trying to include an entire match would have resulted in a severe imbalance between the different portions of the title, a little more complexity would have been welcome.

After being so pleasantly surprised by Harry Potter’s previous Wii outing we approached this latest title with a fair degree of expectation. Promises of realistic potion-making, intense Quidditch matches and generally improved presentation echoed through the office as the disc was slotted into the Nintendo Life Wii. While the end result doesn’t quite justify our heady excitement, it is at least a cut above the usual licensed tosh we’re force-fed by publishers these days. Based on the film of the same name, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 is an adventure game that sees you assuming the role of the young wizard as he embarks on his most dangerous quest yet. Away from the relative safety of Hogwarts school, Harry must evade the grip of Voldemort and his Dark Forces whilst working to locate and annihilate his soul-destroying Horcruxes. As with previous LEGO games, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 allows you to lead a small group of characters through levels and missions based on the world-renowned stories. Not only can you play as the core characters (Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger), you can also play as pets (Scabbers, Crookshanks, etc.) or even as (gasp) villains!

Generally, the video game adaptations of the Harry Potter series were designed to be released to coincide with the release schedule of the film series. The first game in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone [c], was developed by five different teams, each creating different versions for different consoles. The games were developed by Argonaut Games [5] ( PlayStation), Aspyr [6] ( Mac OS), Griptonite Games [7] ( Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance), and KnowWonder [8] ( personal computer). Two years later, Warthog Games released versions for sixth generation consoles ( GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox). [9] The version was released after the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and used many of the same assets. [10] The game featured puzzles aimed at "eight- to fourteen-year-olds" and aimed to capture the mood of the novel of the same name.
