As a teenager, I’d kept a vision board over my desk. It had changed a lot over the years, but a few images had remained—steadfast pillars among an ever-changing sea of dreams. Phillip comes to stand beside me on the diving platform. He’s been quiet since we came on board, but now he speaks up, his voice dry and teasing. “You were a teacher’s pet in school, weren’t you?” I might be in the cheapest room at the hotel. I might be nervous every single night I need to eat alone in a restaurant. But I’m here, in this beautiful place, and I owe it to myself to make the best of this experience.

The restaurant opens to the garden on one side and the sea on the other. No windows are needed in the perpetually warm climate. He doesn’t look up at me, but he seems to tense up at my question. “My room wasn’t properly cleaned when I arrived. They’re fixing it now.”Phillip is still tapping his fingers along the edge of the table. “I get it. You really wanted to come here.” Phillip nods again, the dimple flashing. “Well. I think it’s scheduled for this weekend. Want to come along?” I figured, from your scathing critique of newlyweds,” he says. There’s dry amusement in his tone. Almost like he wants this conversation to end, but can’t quite bring himself to stop engaging.

His smile widens. “You can put me in a time-out then. But think about it. I have more things planned during these weeks.” The bungalow labeled The Hawksbill catches my attention. That’s the name of one of the turtle species mentioned when I booked my snorkeling tour set for later this afternoon. This bungalow looks no different from any of the others. Dark wood stairs up to a large door and the perfectly landscaped plants in pots on either side.Hey, I was angry about that, too. Still am. Darn, I have to go. Well, if I can get off this couch.” Not always,” I counter. There have been many thoughts I haven’t shared over the past few months. About myself, about Caleb, about Cindy. Question of why. Why, why, why?

Thirty minutes later, my little underwater camera is full. I climb up onto the platform, sea droplets sluicing off me. Es precioso y súper divertido, es un grumpy x sunshine en dónde ninguno cae mal. Lit es una de las pocas veces donde veo que el personaje grumpy nunca sea malo o mal educado. I open my mouth to say—what, exactly?—but Phillip beats me to the punch. “Yes, and she sure likes to remind me.”

I think this may be one of my favorite vacation romances. Grumpy/sunshine that was SO good!! He wasn’t a rude asshole like I see often with this trope he just wasn’t talkative at first and focused on working. I wish this was dual pov and we got to see Philip’s thoughts but I loved this so much!! Their meet cute was hilarious with Philip barging himself into Eden's dinner plans. The first impression of him is that he's a blunt, workaholic that despite being on vacation doesn't know how to disconnect. On the other hand, Eden is the bright kindergarten teacher who wants to make the most of her dream vacation. She even has a guidebook with highlights, tabs, and annotations so she can do everything she wants. Them moving from complete strangers to friends to having feelings for each other over the 2 week period felt very real and not at all insta-lovey or forced. Plus with the added chapters at the end being in the future things wrapped up no nicely. He looks down at the free lounger next to mine like it offends him. But then, he sighs and sits down. “Yeah.” Although maybe not, I admit to myself. Seeds might have been everywhere, but I hadn’t seen them. The desire to nurture ideas until they blossomed into fully-grown stories had been missing. This was an adventurous book, they went on a different activity every day they were in Barbados, it was nice to read but I think the problem for me was the writing, it wasn't good, it wasn't the kind of writing that makes you read the entire book in one sitting, it doesn't attract the reader, no matter how cute the cover is... it's not what the reader will remember.

Because you were kind enough to let me crash your relaxing night out,” he says. “Thank you for tonight, Ms.…” In overall this was cute but boring, you could read the entire book thinking Eden and Philip are just friends bc they seem so platonic. And the miscommunication in the end is awful, I hate this trope. But David’s ready with the net. Up comes a large, yellow-green fish. It has a blunt face like a pug. He hasn’t noticed me yet. His gaze is laser-focused above my head at the single attendant working at the front desk.Phillip stares at me for so long that I get uncomfortable. There’s only sternness on his face, like I’m an opponent across the negotiating table. Do attorneys even negotiate? I admit, I get most of my ideas about their work from television shows.
