About this deal

It is also noticed that in this period, the quality of newer molds and numeral sets have begun to decline; i.e. it is more difficult to find set of a higher class. Manufacturers have changed to using molds simply based on common modern typefaces. While teacher supply stores have excellent quality math manipulatives, they are often expensive. If you can get your school to fund your classroom supply, then go this route. Lakeshore Learning has endless types and varieties of manipulatives and wonderful games that would fulfill your needs.

Jumbo Magnetic Numbers Set 36 - KCS

Like many other sets, these numbers, letters and symbols come in six classic colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. White and cyan magnetic numbers are in fact quite rare, as not many manufacturers and companies have chosen those colors for their numbers and letters. It is my only set of magnetic numbers to contain those colors.

Class twos just aren't the best sets out there. Sets are normally put in class two due to its poor quality and/or aesthetics. Poor aesthetics could also mean using a typical font and then slightly modifying it, as this shows that the manufacturer does not seem to pay much effort in designing the set. Number lines are important for many number concepts, such as counting, sequencing, and number recognition. Students can be taught how to solve addition and subtraction problems by jumping up or down the number line. Provide students with a number line, such as these personal number lines. Use a large number line to display on a bulletin board for class demonstrations. A human number line can be created on the floor with tape and used for practice and games, like the Human Number Line Game explained here. Students use math manipulatives at their workspace to complete their work. We have math centers set up that incorporate manipulatives to use during their work. I also give students “free time” to grab a bin of math manipulatives to explore on their own or in small groups. This is where some of the most incredible findings happen. I occasionally put a problem on the board for students to complete with a math bin of their choosing. This encourages the “real world” problem solving when they must think of the most appropriate tool and try different ones out through trial and error. Examples of How to Use Math Tools During “free time” or math centers, I will put out a basket containing around 20, 50, or 100 small items depending and ask students to complete a task. The task could be “make groups and count to find out how many objects you have” or something that encourages thinking and problem-solving.

Class fives are much more common to find than class sixes and sevens but have good quality and aesthetics (font and color choice etc.). The ELC (Early Learning Center/Centre) magnetic uppercase letters were obtained along the magnetic numerals in early 2021 (which is why this set was obtained). Unlike the numerals, the letters were not styled like the Megcos magnetic letters, instead they are partially based on the "Sassoon" typeface (which is designed for better readability for children). The set comes in the same six colors as the numerals (white, red, orange, yellow, green and cyan). The distribution of letters seem to have two of each letter, and the other 16 letters are randomly assigned. 1 jar (68 letters) have been obtained. When teaching basic addition, I use magnetic counters that can be used on the whiteboard to illustrate a problem (i.e., 2+5=7). Students use two-sided counting chips to solve another similar problem at the carpet. Class sevens are the most valuable and rare sets of the collection. Most are either handmade, discontinued or have a special meaning to me. This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items.

Try to have a designated place for each manipulative. Have them in a place that is accessible and ready for use. Using a large storage area that holds bins for those types you use often is helpful. Teach students where they can find each type and show them how to use them and put them away correctly. This will help with clean up and maintain the organization. One of each" refers to one of each letter (A-Z) or decimal digit unless specified (like some of my own designs have transdecimal digits/numerals, or other symbols), as the vast majority of sets are "decimal-centric". These durable and brightly coloured magnetic numbers can also be used for sensory play activities and are a great addition to any of our Play Makes Sense Maths Activity Cards. Math manipulatives make math FUN! Children of all ages enjoy using these concrete tools to make sense of the problems they are given. They mainly help younger learners who are learning new math concepts for the first time. A relationship is built when children see how to solve problems and given opportunities to “try” something using math manipulatives. With repeated practice and “play” with manipulatives, math fluency develops.Set W3 is based on Helvetica (except 6 and 9) and 50 numbers have been obtained. Several shapes and symbols were also included in the set. The ELC magnetic numerals was my third and final attempt in replicating the Megcos magnetic numeral set. Math manipulatives are useful for teachers and students during math lessons, activities, and games. See what math manipulatives every classroom should have. Must-Have Math Tools for Every Classroom
