About this deal

Raikkonen firmly put himself on the map in Formula 1 with his spell at McLaren, unfortunate to miss out on World Championship glory in 2003 and 2005, before finally achieving that goal in 2007 when he joined Ferrari. It was more about Kimi "being Kimi" through some random anecdotes from his life, which was fine with me, and less about Kimi the F1 champion. When he joined the grid in 2001, F1 cars used V1o engines and continued to do so until the end of 2005. In that time, Kimi won nine races. V8 engines were then used from 2006 to 2013, a period in which he claimed victory on 11 occasions. Since then, V6 hybrids have been used and after a long wait, he finally won a race with one in 2018 in Austin.

Including never-previously-seen photographs from his own collection, The Unknown Kimi Räikkönen takes the reader into the heart of the action at grands prix around the world, behind the scenes as race strategies are planned, and opens up the private side of his life that he normally guards so carefully. As part of Martin Brundle’s gridwalk, he would point out to ‘The Iceman’ that he had missed Pele’s presentation, Kimi bluntly saying his absence was due to the fact that he was ‘having a sh*t’. The perils of Kimi and live TV there folks! Leave him alone, he knows what to do We’re not ski jumpers ourselves, we don’t fly, carried by our skis, for a single second, but that doesn’t stop us from being experts. Being on the outside makes us infallible. The book is a collection of the Scuderia Ferrari driver’s quotes turned into Haikus – a form of Japanese poetry comprising three lines of five, seven, and five words. But Raikkonen, not known for his conformity, has created Haiku poems to his own length. Tämä teos oli helppo ja nopea lukea. Se ei mullista maailmaa, mutta jaksaa pysyä ihan kiinnostavana taitavan kerron

And then if that’s not bad enough, the author (who is Finnish like Kimi) uses the book as an opportunity to discuss other Finnish athletes who have nothing to do with Kimi other than the fact that they are also Finnish. He talks about the difficulties that the Räikkönnen family had during karting and uses the current experience of a Finnish comedian’s attempts to send his son through the world of karting to demonstrate how tough it is. Unless I completely missed something, that comedian is not linked to Kimi in any way other than the fact that he is Finnish.

The Unknown Kimi Raikkonen by Kari Hotakainen | Waterstones

Will Buxton today released a photo of Raikkonen’s haiku book, and it surely is one of the greatest things ever. Itse kirjaan. Hotakaisen tyyli sopii tähän kirjaan täydellisesti. Hänen hiljaa virnuilevat kuvailunsa ja huomionsa formuloiden maailmasta saavat hymyn herkästi huulille. Apparently, while he has been busy racing around the streets of Monte Carlo all these years, people have paid to watch the grand prix from his boats and meet him afterwards. Quite the businessman. He is the only driver to win in the V10, V8 and hybrid eras

Kimi got his revenge though when Priestley was one of the guests at his Lapland home for the yearly Finland “piss-up”. He also pees in his cars sometimes during qualifying because waiting in the car for one hour is apparently too long He did, of course, ultimately choose the latter, and had an excellent reason for doing so: “B ecause I didn’t have to get up early in the morning.”

Almost all the drivers were present for the ceremony, we say almost because one was missing, Kimi of course. We have mentioned he has set a number of records in F1 and this is one of the perhaps slightly lesser-known but equally impressive ones. Kimistä muodostuu hyvin lämminhenkinen kuva erityisesti kotona perheen seurassa. Tarinat armeijasta, inhimillisistä toilailuista ja perheen muodostuksesta olivat mielenkiintoisimmat. Thirty-six years on, his forename has lost its second half. He’s just Kimi today; Kimi-Matias has vanished in a cloud of dust, and no one remembers his official first name any longer. It’s unlikely that many people even know it, only perhaps one or two of the dozens of fans in the foyer of the Sama-Sama Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Friday at 9.10am. At least they know he’ll come out of the lift soon – and won’t say a word.Enigmatic and private, Ferrari’s former world champion driver rarely opens up to outsiders, but he granted Hotakainen exclusive access to his world and his way of thinking … With all the raw excitement of Formula One and the insight of the best biographies, this will delight all fans of motorsport and those who have long revered the elusive Finn.’
