About this deal

First impressions are great: the Launch Control XL's roughly 9.5" square plastic casing feels surprisingly rugged, and its natty orange rubber base should help defend it somewhat from the rigours of life on the road. S4racen wrote:The LaunchControl XXL script extends the blue hand mapping across all 24 pots. You can further customise how thee mappings work (without having to manually map them each time) by using our PrEditor Mapping Utility. First Impressions / Setting up We take a look at Novation’s Launch Control XL controller, meant to provide hardware controls for Ableton Live’s mixer section.

Once you have the 5 templates loaded to your Launch Control XL you no longer need the Editor. Now you can connect the LC XL to Circuit via your DAW or use a stand-alone USB host. We have provided an Ableton Live project template that handles the MIDI communication between the two devices. This can be loaded in to Live Lite 9 that comes with your Launch Control XL. Extended Parameter Device Control – User Six Mode 24 Pots control AutoMaps to the parameters of the currently in focus device, with the configuration of the Device_32 parameter you can extend this to include the 8 fades taking each bank to be 32 parameters. https://support.novationmusic.com/hc/en-gb/articles/208379135-Ableton-Live-MIDI-Routing-template-for-Launch-Control-XL-and-Circuit Just bought a second hand UC-33e as i wanted to have sliders for volume controls…. This looks like a up-to-date similar thing.. The sturdy design makes it ideal for live performance, but it's quite at home as a mixing tool in the studio too."

This setup would be much better if the Send A and Send B knobs could also be used for device control, but as it stands, the only way to get access to all of the controls is to create a user template - see Template of Dreams. The Control is a perfect companion for Logic Pro X's Smart Controls - 12 on-screen knobs that take over the currently selected device. Logic remembers MIDI assignments across projects, so you only need to set this up once. One thing that could be confusing is the pads. We began with Live on OS X. After configuration in Live's Preferences, the device had immediate control over Live, with three separate templates, covering more detailed mixer functions, sends, clip launching, and device control. With user presets as well, the Control made a great little controller for Live. There's also a dedicated on-screen editor, which adds further flexibility. We’ve teamed up with Melodics to bring Launchpad users a very special offer, including free lessons and huge discounts on Melodics subscriptions. Combined with Launchpad's intuitive 64-button grid, Launch Control XL provides unrivalled simultaneous control over Ableton Live's session view, mixer, effects, and instruments – it’s never been easier to craft the perfect mix.

The pads on Launch Control's sister model, the Launchkey, are velocity sensitive, but the Control's aren't. It's not a huge problem either way, but something to ponder when choosing. Also the Launchkey and the Launchpad Mini use mini-USB to connect, while the Launch Control uses full-size USB. iOS live rig First of all - 8 macros are not the problem. The problem is integrating a large VST with 128 parameters. I have access to 24 knobs, 8 faders, and 16 buttons x 8 USER and 7 Factory presets...so I could control a ton of parameters with it (which was the point of buying it). Can someone point me in a direction of something that enables the use of the Novation XL unit in this manner without having to reload each time. The third row of knobs can map to whatever device is currently selected. Automatically without mapping. It feels like it's been ages since Novation released the original Launchpad, their seminal grid controller for Ableton Live. Since its release in 2009, the unassuming little device has been spotted in countless artists' setups, both live and in the studio. It has even served as a springboard to viral popularity for some musicians, Madeon being a prominent example. Despite its raging success, Novation held off from expanding the Launch line for four years, a surprisingly long stretch. Last year they unleashed a barrage of new devices, raising the number of controllers sharing the Launch family name to eight. The latest is the Launch Control XL, a mixer-style MIDI controller with built-in integration for Ableton Live. I'm lost, you save you can't save your mappings? When you save your live set all MIDI Mappings are saved are they not?? In that regard, it probably has 5 more faders and a bunch more knobs and buttons than I need for this application, but since the device editor is user friendly and gives a lot of options, I'm sure I'll gradually come up with some uses for the buttons and knobs along the way, it's not like the footprint of the device is hogging up that much desktop space. Pro Tools will also not allow the 4th dial in the second row to be assigned to parameters as it treats the message as park of a bank select fine message. Functionality

Right let me clarify this for you, the issue lies with Ableton as they produce the remote scripts not Novation....

I also extensively use Ableton templates to save midi mappings (and other setups, channel routing, default effects, etc...). I'm then using the Novation Components software ( https://support.novationmusic.com/hc/en ... ents-guide) to edit one of the templates close to what I want (can review each template in Components to see MIDI channels, values, LED configurations, etc...). I'm saving the edited template to the Novation where it can be accessed using the User button. If using a Mac, please open the ‘Audio MIDI Setup’ application on your Mac, select ‘Window’ > ‘Show MIDI Studio’ and in the ‘MIDI Studio’ window, ensure the Launch Control XL is showing two MIDI ports - ‘Launch Control XL’ and ‘HUI’ as shown below:

Don't expect to be able to use either of those with Groovebox, I think Launchkey is the only supported controller. Also pretty sure they won't work with Cubasis mixer either, you can use it with synths/FX hosted in Cubasis though . Ok, I tried. There is a MIDI script. It only works with the Factory Preset 1, which gives you 8 knobs in total to control the Device. Parameter bank up / down – Shift up and Down the organised banks of 24 parameters at a time LAUNCHCONTROL XXL – ADDITIONAL COMPATIBILITY Only for the controllers listed as it uses custom control surface scripts that pull in the original scripts and then add to them. In the case of EQ Eight, for example, the first bank sees the knobs controlling each band's on/off state, the second band frequency, the third band Gain, and so on.Launch Control XL is the ultimate controller for Ableton Live. It helps you focus more on your music and less on your laptop, with 16 buttons, 24 knobs and eight faders, all seamlessly integrated Live to give you hands-on control. The ideal use for this device would be the ability to treat a VST like a full-fledged hardware synth...with that number of controls, it makes no sense not to give us that option. Assign your buttons, knobs and faders to any parameters within Ableton to make your own layouts. You can even customise knobs with your own colours, and effortlessly switch between your own mappings and Live's built-in functionality. Crafting the perfect mix has never been easier! Included Software This is sometimes referred to as 'blue hand' behavior. It gives you 8 parameters to control at a time with a bank select. In the case of the EQ I forget what each bank does but there is a handy note that shows up at the bottom of the screen when you switch banks.
