About this deal

This was a Traveling Sisters group read and I always love hearing the perspectives from my buddies, they always add a fresh take to my perspective. The title of the poem “Requiem” means an act or token of remembrance. This poem is a remembrancer of the poet that he left behind for his dear readers. Besides, the term also means a mass for the repose of the souls of the dead. So, Stevenson wrote this piece for two purposes. One is to make him memorable in the minds of his readers as a “sailor” or a “hunter” (in their metaphorical sense). Another reason concerns how he wants to be remembered. He does not want to die like a person defeated by death. Rather his wish is to be reminded of as a person who accepted death wholeheartedly.

That’s part of the reason why these lies hurt so much. They are not really told for your benefit at all.One year ago, Caroline Johnson chose to end her life brutally: a suicide planned to match that of her husband just years before. Their daughter, Anna, has struggled to come to terms with their loss ever since. Now with a young baby of her own, Anna misses her mother more than ever and starts to question her parents deaths. But by digging up their past, she'll put her future in danger. The relationship between Murray and Sarah is the shining light in Let Me Lie. If the book had been about them....but.... On New Year's Day, Ffion Morgan has a village full of suspects. The tiny community is her home, so the suspects are her neighbors, friends and family—and Ffion has her own secrets to protect. Let Me Lie is well written, though each of the characters’ life seems a bit dull, except Murray’s. I like following Murray’s point of view. He’s such a gentle soul and very thorough at investigating. I like his relationship with his wife, even though she’s going through tough times. I like the unexpected twists and turns, though I’m getting a bit irritated with many recent psychological thrillers that I read where the focus is on “you never know what goes on behind closed doors.” The working up to the end is excellent especially when police zoom in on solving the mystery while the lie is unraveling. I recommend everyone to read this book, especially for the thrill towards the end!

Truth be told, Let Me Lie didn't do much for me. As psychological thrillers go, this was tepid to the point of going cold. Doubly disappointing as I thoroughly enjoyed the author's first novel, I Let You Go. Now is the best time for me to hear those details because I’ve accepted the situation for what it is. I can see a way through this for us. If more details come out at a later date, I’m not sure I’ll be able to say the same then. An intense psychological thriller…[that] revels in surprises and twists…outstanding.”—Associated Press

Tips to Remember the Difference

Funeral readings offer us a way to express our feelings about the loss of a loved one. They are read during funerals, memorial services, and other celebrations to honour the deceased, evoke memories and offer comfort to those who are mourning. The wonderful world of employment can put us in proximity to a variety of people. Some will be great, others will be not so great.

Even though they do not look that similar, lay and lie are two commonly confused words. The problem comes with the fact that lay and lie have similar meanings, but it becomes even more complicated as lay is also used as the past tense of lie. So when she receives a letter from Karen, the mother of the donor, who requests to meet, Lizzie doesn’t give it a second thought. What’s more, shouting and screaming and getting some form of verbal revenge on the person is unlikely to make you feel any better.

Summary

With a smidgen of optimism, I finally decided on a 4 star rating for LET ME LIE. But, in all fairness of honest disclosure, at certain points in the book I felt the dreaded THREE STAR rating looming in the distance.

Here’s where it gets complicated: Lay is the past tense of lie. So, those examples of lie above could use lay in the past tense: Let Me Lie is a deep, emotionally-driven thriller that successfully juggles many real-life dramas that can happen to anyone. What makes this story so enthralling for me was that while I was reading, I felt that this could happen to anyone. These realistic themes not only make the story immersive, but also very enchanting. In Let Me Lie wdeal with suicide, family conflict, mental illness, and betrayal. Anna Johnson is coping after a year of chaos and depression from the suicides of her mother and father. Both parents chose to end their lives in the same way within a short span apart from each other. Anna is now a mother, raising her newborn Ella with her partner Mark, and she is still struggling with the aftermath of their deaths. She misses her parents immensely, but on the anniversary of her mother's death she receives information that could change the magnitude of everything. However you might like to rationalize a lie that has been told, if your feelings don’t match up with your thoughts, you should trust your feelings every time. The way you might respond to a first time lie will be different to how you react to the each subsequent lie.
