They initially explore the manner in which Polly finds new meaning in her life and learns to adapt to the opportunities she discovers in Polbearne. Little Beach Street Bakery (4 book series) Kindle Edition

Note: I realize the above quote isn't consistent with how light I made the book sound but this quote stood out to me. I love the ocean and find it very therapeutic. I've experienced this quote first-hand and I marked it immediately. However, this happiness isn’t meant to last. As the weather takes an unexpected turn, Polly struggles to contend with a secret that could upend everything her friend Selina has worked to achieve since she was widowed. Sure...Polly had problems and character flaws. Sometimes she tried too much to help people. She cared too much or showed too much forgiveness...honestly. Right now, she wanted to sit in her eyrie of a sitting room at the very top of the house, drink tea, eat a cheese twist and simply relax and enjoy the view: the sea, ever changing; clouds scudding past so close she could touch them; the little fishing boats bobbing out across the water in faded greens and browns, their winches and nets heavy behind them, looking tiny and fragile against the vast expanse of the sea. She just needed five minutes’ peace and quiet before heading down to the bakery to relieve her colleague Jayden for the lunchtime shift.

It's all a little cheesy but it's good natured and a lot of fun. It even throws off the light-heartedness for a while to give the reader some bona fide peril on the high seas and a little tragedy for good measure. The author even throws in the recipes for some of the baked goods featured in the book at the end. And there is many a challenge for Polly to face, this including the demons of her past that she worked so hard to escape and the manner in which her relationship with her gorgeous boyfriend keeps evolving. After reading Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery, book three in the Little Beach Street Bakery series did I just have to read the first book because I found the one I read marvelous. I suddenly realized that my library books are due Wednesday and I have this one and _News of the World_ still to read. Eek, drinking coffee now to stay up late and get a good ways through another of Jenny Colgan's good novels before farming duty calls in the morning. :-} Stress like this I can handle, no worries. Polly was a realistic character: full of flaws, yet incredibly likeable and relatable. The rest of the characters reflected the town from where they came; unique, whimsical, and almost fairy tale in their quality.

When It Falls Apart by Catherine Bybee: Review, excerpt, interview with the author, and a giveaway! Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know! After being on a spree of bad reads, this one broke the spell. What a delightful surprise. I had requested this book electronically from my library so long ago, I had actually forgotten about it. Now I know why it took so long. It's really good. How?" said Chris. "Have you ever gone bankrupt?"Polly Waterford lived with her partner, Chris, and for the last few years, barely had her head above water.

Polly Waterford runs a bakery. It might be the best job in the world. Once upon a time, Jenny’s life was in shambles. She lost her business and her boyfriend, and at that point in time, Jenny thought her life was over. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: Audiobook Review & Go Behind the Scenes with Narrator Rosamund Pike But the summer breeze hides an unsettling wind that is blowing through town and Polly is hiding a secret – one that could hurt her friend Selina who is recently widowed and who has come to the town to recover. That was (quite possibly) the worst American accent on an audiobook that I've ever had the displeasure of listening to. But then she lost the boyfriend and the business eventually went bankrupt. Polly was forced to leave the life she thought she loved so much in favor of a Cornish tidal town called Polbearne. Polly’s move was necessitated by the fact that the town was the only place she could afford to live.
